I just got the same scam.Seems thet are targeting Australia at the moment.I have a silent number as well.wtat a waste of money..Just told them to go and get ####!!

I've just received the second call in two weeks from the car accident phishing Indian call centre. The first time I said, "good luck with that one" and hung up. This time I said, "We're not falling for your scam." and hung up. He called back with a different tone to his voice - aggressive - and asked why I said it was a scam. I laughed - and he said "I didn't give you permission to laugh!"!!!!!

Just had a call from accident investigation dept regarding a car accident 2 years ago to this number.....really.....not so buddy !??? Said I would ring him back after I checked him out... Gerry....(02) 8006 7679.....scammers wasting people's time.....sheesh

They are obviously still at it as I have just received a phone call from them asking about a car accident I have had in the last 2 years. It was an overseas, silent number which came up on my phone so I knew it had to be a scam. When I told the woman that I hadn't had any accidents she said well it wasn't a major accident just a small one. I said, what exactly do you want and why are you ringing me and she hung up. Pissed me off. Because we run a business, guess what, 2 minutes later our other land line rings and it is from the same place. As soon as I answered the phone they hung up. Totally over bogus phone calls and telemarketers.

I have just had a phone call from a woman called Lisa with an Indian accent claiming she was from Sydney Newcastle Lawyers and said someone from my phone number had had an accident in the last two years. That was quite unsettling and I felt very annoyed knowing this wasn't true. I asked her for her phone number. She questioned me about why I would want her phone number and then of course hung up. I just can't believe these people sleep at night with such an immoral job like that. I am feeling so annoyed being in the situation of not being able to stop them from calling somebody else and upsetting them.

I have had several of these calls in the last 2 weeks (late May 2015), one time they hung up when I kept repeating, "Just 2 things" ( I intended to say we have had no accidents in last 2 years & I would be reporting them to the police). I have now registered out private number with the federal government's Do Not Call site. https://www.donotcall.gov.au/ Not sure if it will work with possible off shore call centres. This will work with callers from within Australia, with certain approved exceptions as shown on the site. As to how they get private phone numbers, easy, random computer generated number combinations in the Telstra phone number format.

my wife received a call from 80067578 claiming to be accident investigation dept she gave them no details and said ring back but my no is a private no how did they get it I rang them back and got a recorded message in which I left the message that were nothing but a group of scammers and are all over the internet how did they get my number today 21/5/15 I hope they don't call back because this why I got a private no in the first place

Steve johnston just rang but used a differernt number (02) 8006 7578. From exactly the same place as above. Couldnt givr me any detail so asked for company and number when i rang back some one answered with hello. Told them very unproffessional way of answering phone he agreed and i hung up. Second call today wish they would piss off.

I received four (4) phone calls yesterday starting with a lady named Jessica who then had her "manager" try to railroad me into giving information. They told me their number is (02) 8006 7578 and they are from the Accident Investigation Department in NSW. I phoned that number and received a Telstra message - "this number is unavailable at the moment". By the time I received the fourth phone call, my blood pressure had risen and I informed the caller that I had reported this to the police. First question - why would someone from NSW government department be phoning someone in Queensland? Second question - why would a government department employee [with an Indian accent] be phoning me on Easter Monday about a motor vehicle compensation claim?

They are still going, I have had over a dozen calls from the same number (08) 8121 5888, on a couple of occasions I have let it answer - not answered with my business details as they are ringing my place of work and they tell me the are from the Accident Investigation Department and this number has been reported has have an accident in the last two years when I tell them they have rung a business number they get rude and hang up. I remember recently I had a call from a solicitors office asking if anyone from our building may have witnessed an accident from about a year ago at the intersection our building is on. So I reckon you are right they are Ambulance chasers although how they get the numbers I don't know. I tried to ring back and got through and the person was rude and hung up, then I tried again and ended up on a party line with four other people who also have been getting the calls all day like myself.

this group(Indian chasing car accidents) got my dad just after his car accident today on the phone and he gave them DOB'S and the accident information until i overheard and shut it down. what are they about? what can they do with the information? can i stop them.

I had a 2calls, my sister had a call by these scambags, they just don't give up, and they are adamant that you or some one in the family had an accident in the last 3 years, be aware of these people, yah same number they gave me.

Received a phone call today from a guy with an Indian accent from (02) 8006 7373. Same line as all the others, that he was from the Australian Accident Commission and he was ringing about an accident that I've had in the last 2 years. I said "no, that's not correct. I haven't had any accidents".....he then says "how can you say that?"!!!! Well idiot, I think I would know!! Immediately hung up on him and googled the number and found this thread.

My phone call was from and asian sounding person claiming to be from a lawyers in Sydney. When they asked about somebody having an car accident in the household I told them that we had quite a number of people with drivers licenses in the family and could they tell me who they wanted to speak to. The man got very cross and started shouting at me when I wouldnt tell him how many drivers and who they were.

Had a phone call 2 nights in a row on my work number.
Claimed that either myself of the owner of this number was involved in a car accident in the last 3 years.
Claimed to be calling from the South Australian Accident Commission (from number +16128867373 i highly doubt that)
After specifically asking for either what car model, or even a date I was hung up on.
