Just got a call from a man with a strong Indian accent who said he was from the RTA'S claim
Department. It was logged as an overseas call on the phone. He was ringing about compensation waiting for me etc.
So they are still ringing ...

Constant calls from the Philipines, with a pingback. It looks like a local call which does not leave a message and when you call back it pings to a line and then on come the phillipino people selling you something. Who is selling Australian numbers?

Just received a call from a woman with an Indian accent claiming to be from the 'Accident Investigation Department'. Members of my family are overseas at the moment so I found receiving this call quite distressing initially thinking they may have been in an accident of some sort. I quickly realised it was a scam and told her I wasn't interested in talking to her and she abruptly hung up on me. Good riddance.

Just got off the phone with "Veronica" who, by the way, has a very strong Indian accent. When I asked for a street address she could barely pronounce an Australian street name, so I asked which country she was in. When she went silent, I spoke to her in Hindi - I used to live in India - and she hung up. Mine is an unlisted number and I am angry that these scammers were able to get it.

It's still happening - I had two calls today alone. Do not give them any personal information - tell them you are tracing their number and reporting them to the police - they hang up

I agree - Australians should have to use Australian based call centres.

3rd time I have rec'd this Accident Insurance call. Male with a strong accent. Played along, as he assured me I would get cash. He got feed up after I dragged it out and then he told me to go out the front of my house and lay on the road. Then hung up. .... In view that I haven't had a car accident, as some of the feedback suggests, it was a shot in the dark, but they might just get someone that would give bank details or credit card account numbers.

1.8.16 Got a phone call this morning from someone with an Indian-like accent "from the Accident Investigation Department calling about an accident I had around 12 months ago". Said no, not me. He said it could be someone in my family. I said, no, no-one in my family. He gave me a name and I just said he had the wrong phone number and hung up.

@Dawg of Sydney - These calls have nothing to do with Australian businesses that have offshored their call centres to India or the Philippines. They're Indian- or Philippines-based scamming operations masquerading as Australian by routing their overseas phone calls through an Australian phone number.

However, Australian businesses that have offshored their call centres to India or the Philippines have nevertheless done their fellow Australians a disservice by doing so. Australians have become accustomed to dealing with call centres located abroad, and this works to the benefit of scammers by lending their calls some plausibility. If we weren't accustomed to hearing Indian or Filipino accents coming from legitimate call centres, then we would be much more suspicious of calls from scammers speaking with such accents.

I have also received a call from this number today, and a friend of mine received one too. When I questioned his information, and said that I had not had an accident in the last two years, he said that he must have had the wrong number and hung up on me. I checked online about similar calls and found that this was a scam. The problem is, they can prey on elderly people and upset them and talk them into giving their details. I am so fed up with these people. My numbers are all on the Donotcall register, but these mongrels still get through. Who do I report these calls to?

I have also posted a comment publicly on my facebook, warning people in my area that these calls are starting.

Same as many of you - I had the male Indian who said he was from the Accident Investigation Department - they actually called my office number ....so clearly they are getting random numbers and hoping to find someone. I said well it may have been a person driving one of the cars I have - which car was it I asked... funny how the phone went dead instantly.

I answered the telephone at my elderly mother's house. A woman with a strong Indian? accent said that she was Jan and was calling from the Accident Investigation Bureau. I said to her did you say "Accident Investigation Bureau? " She said yes and that she was ringing because someone at my address had been involved in an accident during the last 2 years. I said "I don't think so" and she immediately hung up in my ear. This is definitely some sort of scam and a goodle search reveals that it has been implemented quite strongly in the UK.

Received a second call in 2 weeks from them the other day - Emma said she was from the "Accident Investigation Unit", and when further questioned said it was the "Accident Help Line", at 1/384 Elizabeth St., Sydney. I was very surprised that they were able to tell me the date of my accident, which they said they acquired from the Motor Accident Authority. I told them I did not give the MAA any authority to do so. She wanted to know more of my particulars, and the time date and location of the accident. I told her to send me a company brochure, and I would consider it. She then got her "supervisor" who was another Indian (male) and quite forceful. I figured that their plan is to get the details and lodge a claim, so beware, and do not co - operate. Do not call doesn't work for OS numbers.
