Yes I got the call this morning, accident helpline.... an accident in the home in the last year or so, I asked their ABN number and their phone number, ABN doesn't check out, the numbers they gave were (02) 8006 9951 and (02) 8005 9961, I called back asking for Johnny and I then I told them I killed the owner of the other car and he quickly hung up!!

I just had a call from some Indian sounding bloke, claiming to be from Car Accident Investigation. I could barely understand him. He asked me if I had been involved in a car accident. When I asked him how he got our blocked number he hung up on me. When to the Scamnet website and gave them a ring. I was told it is a wide-spread scam going through WA at the moment.

My latest of these came from number (08) 9173 7654, (02) 8282 2215, 020272070, (02) 6847 2619. These are the latest numbers using the insurance scam. So over this. Surely the government can intervene in these online phone numbers. Some sort of regulation needs to be done.

Had two phone calls in two days. Ist one yesterday at my work place and today at home. Both times Indian/foreign ladies asking for details of accidents supposedly had by members of my family. When questioned could not tell me anything as their information was logged into their database. I kept asking them questions. The call yesterday hung up as soon as I told them we were a solicitors office. Today's call I told point blank that they were a scam and she challenged me so I told her again that they were a scam and I would be reporting them to authorities. She eventually got the message and hung up

I've been getting calls from (02) 8008 5855 for weeks and even after I told him my insurance company was dealing with it 'Mr John Matthews' persisted. He said he was from accident helpline and they had an association with Paramount lawyers.

Don't get too hung-up on the (02) 8006 7373 these clowns are using. It's one of about 3 we have had calls on, from Indians named Smith, no less. Latest a (08) prefix. Callers likely street kids in India. They are not calling you, the call centre software is. And they couldn't care less if you threaten them with the authorities - they hang up because they know you know its a scam and you're wasting THEIR time. Information they give YOU is fake.
You'll likely get more calls as your number is "live". 50,000 random calls, one person sucked in, Woohoo - success! How to stop? Supplying fake details so they waste their time and it becomes unproductive might open doors to MORE calls, ie, "your details are incorrect, please confirm" etc ? If everyone contacts their MP (in writing) as to what can be and, more important, IS being done, it may have some result. After all, citizens security should be a priority for a pollie.

Just had a private number call my landline; a chap with a foreign accent said he was from the Accident Investigation Dept and had anyone at my address had an accident in the last 2 years. I asked him to repeat what dept he was from, asked whether he was from government - he said yes. I asked what level of government he said all of Australia. I informed him the Commonwealth doesn't have an Accident Investigation Dept! He assured me it does so I asked him if he was a scammer. He said good-bye!

Had about 6 calls from "Accident Help Line" in 2 days. Every time I have asked them to remove my number and threatened to report them to various agencies for fraud, they keep calling.

I just had a call from a woman with an Indian accent saying she was from the "Accident Investigation Bureau" and was calling about an accident I had. I played along and said "oh really, I'm a bit busy now, what's your name and number and I'll call you back". She gave me a number that's supposedly in NSW (02) 8008 5855. I said "I haven't had an accident but I'll call you if I do" and hung up.

I just had my second call for this year, but this time they blocked their number. As soon as I started telling them I'd already had a call and my number is silent, they hung up. I'd like to know firstly, are the police doing anything about these calls and secondly, why is it Indian people doing this?

Had two calls in two days from Accident Helpline. I ask where they are from then say I'm not interested and hang up (always ask just in case the caller is legit"). These callers give the overseas call centre a bad reputation. Some of the legit call centre staff are really nice and helpful.

We are a business and receiving these calls today, the lady has an Asian accent. I at first told her we don't accept calls from unknown sources.
They are ringing back every five minutes on a block number. Sometimes they speak back others times they hang up as soon as you answer.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and also for a call back number each time they have hung up.
There must be some way Telstra can trace these people.
