Same. This guys keeps calling our home phone but it's obviously a recorded message. I've picked up the phone to answer and the message just keeps playing. My husband called him back and gave him a taste of his own medicine but we must be on some sort of register as the calls keep coming!

I had the same call & honestly believed I was going to goal. I have bad health issues & was totally panicked & paced the house waiting for the police. Why us the f@$/ wit allowed to get away with this. I called the police and they couldn't care less. I don't know who I'm more disgusted with. This jerk or the police. Also feel stupid.

Jason O'Connor - ATO 02 6140 3485

Received a call this this guy today saying he was from the ATO and a lawsuit was filed against me for tax evasion. He also mentioned that there was a warrant out for my arrest and a police officer would arrive at the door. I reported it to the local police. I then phoned him back to try and call his bluff and he said he was in court with a client and would phone back in 30 minutes. Advised him not to do this and then he immediately hung up. Sounded like he was calling from a call centre. Obviously a scam!!

I was called by this scum bag who had me on the line for over an hour with this scam. I was so traumatised thinking that I had done the wrong thing and that the police were going to arrest me. It wasn't until he realised I couldn't pay up that he hung up on me. Disgusted at the lengths he went to. He knew how distressed I was and he told me the ATO was going to freeze all my bank accounts and seize my property, etc. etc. I am still recovering from this scam artist. He told me the only way the police would not come is if I transferred over $9000 in 45mins to an hour. As soon as he realised I could not do this he hung up on me. lying low life piece of sh*t

Yes, same moron, (02) 6152 8615. I wish the ACT or NSW police would find him, cut off his phone and stick it somewhere that would make him reflect on the error of his ways - maybe they should start looking in O'Connor? As if the ATO would cold-call anyone without quoting a Case Number - I feel sorry for the elderly and less-aware folk who get caught by this twit, though what he hopes to achieve I've got no idea - apart from giving people from the sub-continent and all Jasons a bad name. Jason, or what ever your name is - go back to whence you came!

I got an automatically generated call from this Jason O'Connor, purportedly from the ATO claiming a lawsuit is about to be started against me and before the police come knocking on my door, I need to call him on (02) 6140 3485.

Of course, once I listened to the message, I smelled a rat and did no such thing, instead choosing to search his details online first.

Interestingly, my phone never rang once. Yet two hours later, I noticed a message on my answering machine. I'd been right by the phone, making lunch at the time of his call, so I'm very confused as to how his message got onto my answering machine.

So here I am, with dozens of people having received the same scam call. I can't quite figure out what his motive is, ie whether that number is some kind of toll number where he profits from the number being dialled. Or whether the scam lies in the information he then tries to glean from the unsuspecting, worried people who call him to get details about the impending law suit.

It needs to be stopped as I can imagine how much panic he is causing people. I wasn't unduly worried because I knew I had no issues with the ATO, but I can just imagine how shocked some people must be to get this call.

Just had the same (comical) message, I work in a Gov IT division so was not fooled for a second, but can see how this could be very distressing to the elderly.
Reported this to the ATO, who redirected me to the ACCC scamwatch site, apparently this is a well known one, the scammer is using a VOIP phone number so could be anywhere, although the accent wasn't Indian more like Malaysian.
Tried to ring the number but just got dead air, perhaps this number has been shut down and he does not yet realise, sadly he will probably just get another.

Also had a message left on my home phone from a Jason O'connor stating he was from the ATO. Also a law suit against me for tax evasion and the police would be on my doorstep shortly. I have not returned the call and presume this is a scam.

Yup, just had this idiot trying to persuade me that I was in heap of trouble and that the police would be calling at my door in half an hour. He kept asking me to call him back on (02) 6140 3485. I asked him to provide some evidence that he was from the ATO and he returned to his scare tactics about tax fraud and the police turning up. I just hung up on him.

I had a similar message left yesterday on my home phone answering service asking me to kindly ring back on call back number (02) 8310 5583 and it really rattled me and I was considering ringing the ATO on the official number though the details did not quite add up- first of all it was not mentioned who the message was for. Was glad to find these posts to set my mind at rest and not wait until Monday to find out.

Omg I'm the biggest idiot, I had been very unwell trying to stabilise my blood pressure when I got Jason twit O'Connors call and I yelled and screamed at this idiot who told me that an attempt to contact me was made and I had not paid my $3000 fine which I never received, and I needed a criminal law solicitor and I hung up because he was rude but I stupidly believed him and started hyperventilating when I got off the phone and thought I was having a stroke, I have PTSD and was having flashbacks, my blood pressure was through the roof so I stupidly rang my doctor in a state, who prescribed Valium but thought it may be a scam so I talked to the police!!!! Why couldn't I read him like all you smart people?

Same as all the above - didnt ask for any sensitive details though... what is their gain? Interesting that when you ring the real ATO, the first question they ask is if you'd like to register your voice as a personal thumbprint as ID for future contacts. Are these dirtbag scammers possibly sampling our voices to create points of ID in some way?
