My Wife received a call and told her that they are offering $7000 and they are from ATO. Again it is confirmed Indian guy cos he was using some hindi language in middle. This is really ridiculous. Is there any way to stop getting cheated. I am getting frequent calls from different people on my house number either i have won or my computer sending out alerts to them automatic.

I received a call from this number today. the person called said that I'd received a $7000 grant from ATO because I paid my taxes on time and I had no criminal record. This grant would be available only once. when i asked them to make sure that they are really calling from the Australian taxation department.He said I can call on the number (02) 6100 1822 and check that they are the original ATO. He said I would receive my cheque for $7000 if I made a $250 payment to UNICEF. He said I was to deposit my $250 payment to UNICEF via Western Union to a person which he would tell me the details of. Only then was I to receive the $7000. the person called said I should do it in an hour which is not possible for me with my babies around. .By then I'd had enough and I . I CALLED ATO and asked them and they said there is nothing grant system like that and they've recived number of calls regarding this.I really do not know how they could cheat people like this

My wife got a call today saying that the ATO is giving us AUD7000. My wife was in a hurry so she took his number and reference number so that i can call. I thought that the government wouldn't something like this and googled it. Just wanted to add the number on which i was asked to call back - it is (02) 6100 4364. I am going to call ATO to let them know of the same. I wonder from where do they get these numbers and is it traceable to a physical address?

I got a call from a person named Sam Watson and asked to call back this number (02) 6100 4168. Sounds like a prank call, dont give any of your details.

I recieved a call an hour ago. A stupid indian voice... Could not understand a word even though i am from india. Got the number 61004079.. Sam watson answered.... He wanted me to take all the trouble to go to western union money transfer to pay $250... I told him i have no money, no credit cards and no bank cards to pay the money right now and don't have a car. I gave him an option... Deduct the money from the $7000 grant and transfer the balance to my bank.. I was kind enough to allow him to take $500 if he wishes to. Get lost mr. Indian sam watson. I have grown up eating indian rice and curry as well.... Work hard to earn a living like we do... Please do not spoil the reputation of our capital city (delhi, as you said over the phone) and india in general. Good luck watson!!!!

I received an email from antoni antoni purporting to be from McAfee regarding payment of $498.98 to be ded1ucted from my account unless I chose to cancel the payment by calling 61 2 61001822.
I recall that we had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago. I have just ignored it but it is concerning that they gain access to all of your contact points.

This is only one scam. There are others that you should be concerned about too. The people who phone you already have some personal information about you. There is really very little information that they need to steal your identity and use it to acquire your banking details or enter into contracts on your behalf. One common trick is to phone and ask you to do a quick on-line survey where innocent-sounding questions can be used to build up a more complete profile about you. Many people give out a great deal of information to phone survey companies and it is not really possible to know if the Aussie voice on the phone is calling on behalf of a genuine organisation or a shonky one based in India, Russia or Bulgaria. Try asking for written details from your phone contact and see if he/she is willing to provide this.

I had the one with UNICEF donation via WU back in 2011 I think. I recognised it as BS from the transaction methodology supposedly from a government department. I just got one from an Indian guy which gave me a file number and another number to call to arrange the re-imbursment that Tony Abbot had supposedly decided we're all going to get. The number, (02) 6100 3872. Upon calling that I got another Indian telling me I could pick up the $7000 in person from Canberra or arrange to get it paid via a local post office. This of course requires a Western Union form to be filled out. Because of course our ATO uses Western Union to pay refunds to people. Pretty much everything in that sentence is wrong. The ATO doesn't pay money to anybody in my experience, they take it from you. The government might intend for me not to pay taxes on ths money, but I'm pretty sure they don't need to use Western Union to hide the transactions from itself which was the implication I was getting. These lazy ratbags are not helping the image of Indians in this country one bit. There may be others involved but the Indian connection is ubiquitous.

I received a phone call about $7000 tax rebate today. He was Indian and calling from ato. He gave me a number to call (02) 6100 4045). What a scam!!

I just received a call stating I had won a $7000 Tax Grant for having no criminal history. I was told to call (02) 6100 4045 and give them my name and a Reference number. The guy (who sounded Indian) called himself Michael Jeffries.

(02) 6100 4045 when you ring it is answered Australian Taxation Office when I asked to be put through to a supervisor about the 7000 grant they hung up and each time I dialled back they would hang up - this happened five times. I too said I would wait for a letter explaining what had happened - both individuals I spoke with were Asian and could barely articulate the prepared speech. I TOO AM ON THE DO NOT RING REGISTER AND I RECEIVED CALLS ON BOTH LINES INTO MY HOUSE.
FORTUNATELY I WILL NOT BE SCAMMED BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE GULLIBLE INDIVIDUALS THIS NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.ATO SHOULD PUT A WARNING ON THEIR WEBSITE.

Received this call just now from 'Walter'. The number I was asked to call in order to claim my $7000 was (02) 6100 4045. I told him that he ought to be ashamed of himself for participating in this scam and that if the ATO had money to give me (like that happens!) they already had my account details.

its 2013 and the amount is now reduced to 4700..apparently the money has already been credited to 370 people already...and the number to call back is (02) 6100 2930... well, i was in a call with them just a couple of minutes back, and I almost believed it until the western union thing came up..

Today I got a call from this number and the lady called "Anna Jones" with Indian voice said the same thing. Initially I thought it's true but she forced me so much to go to Western union that I doubted. There must be something wrong and I told her as well if I am selected for 7000 grant than I will be getting it whether it's today or on Monday. Interestingly, she said OK then this money will go to somebody else. I said it's fine , not a problem because I am not after any free money . They need to be tracked down as quick as possible .

I think this is an Australian company that has used an Indian call center to do the dirty work. The person they asked to call back had a true Aussie accent!!

Its a fraud... I recieved the same call and the lady said i have to deposit 290$ asap... Bullsh*t...
