WHAT A CREDITOR/DEBT COLLECTOR CAN’T DO

If someone says that you owe them money, they
cannot:

● Have you sent to jail and cannot threaten to send you to jail

● Threaten you with harm

● Threaten to tell your employer, neighbours or family about your
indebtedness

● Take and sell (or threaten to take and sell) any of your property
over which they do not have a mortgage or other form of security
unless they have an order from the Court

● Threaten to garnishee (take) money from your wages without a
court order

● Ring you very frequently (say four times per week or more
without good reason) or ring you at unreasonable times such as
very early in the morning (before 7am) and/or very late at night
(after 8pm)

● Visit or ring you at your place of work if you have asked them
not to and you have provided an alternate contact address and
phone number

● Visit or ring you at work so that third parties become aware of
the debt collection

● Send you letters that look like court documents (but are not
court documents)

● Use abusive or threatening language.

How low are these people. Ringing complete strangers who do not know the people Lion are after but ask
you as a person living in the same street to door deliver a telephone message to their client. I explained I did not know their clients and even though their clients house number is similar it is not close to me. Privacy issue using my number for their dirty work.

Security at my work advised someone appeared at my work looking for me, when I googled the number it was Lion Finance.

My young son received a call from these turkeys while I was at work supposedly relating to my brother? I have the same first initial as him and he's never lived in my house (or used my phone number) - he doesn't even live in Australia! I don't know why they are calling my house number - my family only moved to Australia in 2013 as it is!

Stop trolling and harassing my children!

I have multiple calls to my office from Lion Finance giving all the wrong details about me and asking other staff for the right ones. They are chasing a name for a debt, but the debt does not belong to me. Despite claims from some posting here that they wouldn't be chasing if I didn't have a debt, all my debts are paid. Someone with the same name, or trying to use my name for a debt with only partial details is obviously what they have purchased. I have also checked my Credit File to be certain. I am disappointed they keep wasting my company's time when it's obvious none of the details they have are mine. Thanks to those who suggested referring this to another body for the bad practices, that's the path I think I need to follow.

'Salina" from 1800 708 124 called my neighbour today and asked if they knew the woman in number 12 gave them this number and said it was urgent I called them and gave a reference number I was to quote. This is pretty incredible as I have no debt outstanding or otherwise. A bit unnerving after reading some of these posts

THey rang me to chase up a neighbour did not offer me any money to do their leg work - i found out later they were Lion Finance not name that is well known apparently they buy old debts and try and make a quid from harassing vulnerable people ...caller was a genteel asian women trying to act nice and friendly . You would have to wonder at some of porky pie comments on here that try to show them in a positive light

if you did not contract with lying finance then you owe them not a thing legally....when they buy a debt that is what they get/(a big fat debt for a 20th of the original price)....if you did bizzo with company A you do not owe company B a cent.....they can't get a cent off you and they know it so they act like money junkies desperate to convince you they have a claim....they would better go to the bus terminal and ask people for bus fare because they lost their money.....why do you think they get the debt for 2-5 cents in the dollar....because the owners of the debt are knowing legally they have buckleys chance.

They rang all the surnames that were similar to mine until they found my 80 year old parents and continue to hassle them to chase me up. My mum has become quite ill because of this. They even rang my neighbours who put a note in my letter box. It isn't legal

Had this company constantly call me looking for someone who has the same name as me, but we have a different date of birth and I've never lived in Queensland. Every time they call me, I explain they have the wrong person but they still continue to harass me.

Had a random call from these guys today asking me if I could do them a favour and take down a reference number and take it to number 148 in my street with this phone number to call back. They also told me the neighbour's family name that I did not know. The caller sounded sus so I did a search and the ACCC have taken this mob to court before for breach of law. Looks like they are a repeat offender.
