So, this guy has emailed me twice today to sell me a white Toyota Corolla for $7K. He also include a fake photo of him holding a doctored license. Here are his TWO emails.

The only reason for selling this car so cheaply is because I am involved in a project and I will move to New Zealand on January 27th and not come back for the next 3 years. It's the first time I've been to New Zealand and I'm a little nervous but excited at the same time. It would be a shame to keep the car in the garage for 3 years without being used and I also need some cash before leaving for New Zealand. Right now I am located in Devonport TAS, because our squad it's doing some special training, and in case you decide to buy the car, I will deliver it to your address with our RAAF truck (Transport insurance is included). Besides, it's free and I will give you a 7 days inspection period so you can take the car to a mechanic and test it before I receive your money. Also, It will come with a Roadworthy Certificate and VIC Rego, so you don't have to do the running around, Registration paid until 18/03/2021.

EMAIL 2:
Hi, I have replied to your email, you need to search in your inbox carefully and also check your bulk/spam/junk folder because the email could be there. The car is here with me in the base garage and in case you decide to buy it, I will deliver it to your address, Besides, it's free and I will give you a 7 days inspection period so you can take the car to a mechanic and test it before I receive your money. I think it is a fair thing to do. In case you decide not to keep the car I will have it shipped back with no extra charges for you, also, the car will be shipped with our RAAF cargo boat and from harbor with the truck (Transport insurance is it included). I have a contract with Escrow so this deal must go through them. If you wish to go further, let me know your details (full name, full address and home phone number) so I can open a transaction with them and declare you as the buyer, they will then contact you and explain the whole process in details, You must know that Escrow will contact you without any obligation to buy or to pay some fees (Fees will be paid by me). I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you again Matthew Pettit

Has continued to scam on several websites.
I’ve tried some of the numbers, only the 0480 001 829 seems to be connecting with a user is busy message.
There was / is a task force looking into this with some of the proceeds going to Europe.

I also found aid in carguide for Toyota Corolla for 7K. When I had few email and realised he was just copy pasting it as it was lengthy explanations and reply in few seconds.
Then asked him to show photo of him with car back. He sent ass photo.
I don' know how to report him.

Caller: Matthew Pettit
Email: cameron @ royal-australian-airforce-gov.com
Has just scammed again, this time for $5000 on carsguide.com.au, selling a 2014 Suzuki Swift Sport
Same MO, Selling car quickly as moving back to New Zealand from Tasmania.
Car will be transported via RAAF cargo to have a look at, if not interested will be shipped back free of charge.

He asks for photo of you and ID, put money into an escrow account, then transfer money through a bank transfer to a National Bank account (When calling National Bank, they will not give out any information related to any other account other than yours)

So many red flags.
Can carsguide and similar websites screen their adverts?
Come on carsguide, if you knowingly have fraudulent activity happening on your website, you are liable, smells of class action.

So many people are getting ripped off thousands!

Besides calling the police, reporting to the bank (which we have been told will take a few days for a result on whether money can be returned or not),
what can we do?

How many people have been scammed out of actual money here?
If it is through an actual bank account, can that be traced back to a person?

Let's get the scammers back.
Websites like carsguide.com should take some responsibility.

Same as you guys - exact email and asked him normal questions and for the VIN of the Hilux SR5 4X4 he advertised for $13500 on CarsGuide (no longer there) ignored my question, replied with dropped price of $10,000 and the escrow info in a directive manner. English isn’t so good - maybe English is his second language. Friend went to look for the car at address he gave on ‘His’ licence - no car there. Have emailed him again, mentioning my friend thinks he’s running a scam. I don’t think I’ll hear back from him. No ID given or money - lesson learned. Yes, I would like to report him.

Living in Davenport in army training about to go to NZ.
Slightly strange wording and wanting me to sign up to escrow.com. Asking for licence front and back and said he couldnt do a phone call because he was in training all day.

Major scam.
Block them.

Nothing but a scammer and is still at it as of Friday 11th December 2020.
Using the names Joel, Cameron or Matthew Pettit.
Advertising/selling car that are too good too be true.
DO NOT deal with this person saying he is in the Military, living in Davenport Tasmania and going to NZ got training.
Using a fake Australian airforce email.
We were lucky we stopped he was a scammer.
Others have lost their money.

Said he was in Devonport in Tasmania for training offered to deliever it for free and also wanted to use escro. Asked someone i know in the army and they said it was not legit he also sent a photo of himself with licence (suspect he may have stole someone else identity). Thank Goodness didn't give him money or any id.

I'm glad I found this. Coz I was so close to setting up the escrow acc. I first thought it was dodgey coz a Hyundai i30 go for alot higher than 6k with just 69k on the clock. But when I read the emails then that's when I clicked it seemed too good to be true. Appreciate you guys for writing this up coz if I didn't see this I would've probably lost my money! 🤙🏻

Same as above regarding a Toyota Hilux listed in Car trader at Bellfield.

I got suspicious after the ad disappeared after I made contact now has reappeared in McCleod.
I googled his name and found this greasy.
Claims to work for RAAF in Tas.
Thanks everyone as you've helped me identity this is definitely a scam.
Cheers
