Also the same scammer calling himself Joel Pettit selling a 2013 Black Mazda 3 Neo for $7,500 with different regos from photo and in description, same info in Tassie, RAAF going to NZ on 15th Feb etc advertised on Carsguide. 25-28 Jan 2021

And another one - Amanda Jeffrey selling a 2014 White Mazda 3 Neo for $7,800, only 1 rego mentioned, with the same story in Tassie etc and the same reply as mentioned above. Please do not ever send money. My daughter was looking at multiple car Ad's and checked with her parents who determined it was a scam, hopefully this site will help people and save them some heartache! I suggest multiple ad's, multiple cars currently around in Australia.

I am also glad I looked this guy up. He messaged me with same wording as others about a Mazda 3.

Who do we report him to?

2014 Suzuki swift almost got me. Gave the guy all the info because he seemed so legit with the ID attached to the email, glad I reverse searched his full name.

Pretending to be a defense force kid in Taz wanting to sell his vehicle before he gets deployed to NZ. ph: 0480 003 785 is the phn he used to sms me.

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting me and sorry for taking so long to reply, I've been messed around by one previous buyer for lack of funds, I can confirm that the car is still for sale and never been involved in an accident, Nobody has smoked in it, I've attached some pictures so you can take a closer look at the car, excellent condition without any damage or scratches at all, Mechanically A1, it's a fantastic car, only travelled 29600kms, all of which being said I expect to get $5,000 for it. The only reason for selling this car so cheaply is because I am involved in a project and I will move to New Zealand on February 25th and not come back for the next 3 years. It's the first time I've been to New Zealand and I'm a little nervous but excited at the same time. It would be a shame to keep the car in the garage for 3 years without being used and I also need some cash before leaving for New Zealand. Right now I am located in Devonport TAS, because our squad it's doing some special training, and in case you decide to buy the car, I will deliver it to your address with our RAAF truck (Transport insurance is included). Besides, it's free and I will give you a 7 days inspection period so you can take the car to a mechanic and test it before I receive your money. Also, It will come with a Roadworthy Certificate and QLD Rego, so you don't have to do the running around, Registration paid until 27/05/2021.
You’ll love the car, I can guarantee you that.

Thank you for your interest,
Joel

Its fake and to good to be true!

Total scam. Was almost sold. He copied and pasted his email to me. As I’m reading this thread it’s identical. Stay away! No one else give this person their money! When will they stop?! Glad I found this so I’m not taking this (fake) car offer further.

This absolute idiot tried to sell me a Hyundai claiming the stuff in the above description. The price and email looked dodgy from the start and he even had the balls to say that a deposit from someone else didn’t work out... wonder why. Don’t trust this guys he’ll take your money without a second glance!!

He's back on folks...advertising White Hyundai I30 $6k...

I had the feeling....too good to be true....yep
I've reported to the Fed's...good luck tracing this guy..? or ??

Hi,

Thank you for your email, as I've mentioned in my post, at this moment I am near Devonport TAS in a military base, waiting to be deployed in New Zealand, I am doing a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want, my phone number is 0480 003 785 - You can write me a message but I do not know when I can respond, so the best will be if you answer me by email. My last price including shipping to your address will be $6,000 (It will not take much more than 2-3 business days to receive the car). Because it's a large transaction, we will complete the deal using Escrow https://my.escrow.com/myescrow/includes/status/ coz I already prearranged the whole process with them, the money will be paid via Escrow, so you will deposit the money online directly to Escrow and they will hold and secure your money during the entire transaction. I repeat, they will hold and insure your money until you receive the car in good condition and will release the funds to us only after you decide to keep the car and normally register it, into your name. If by any reason (the car has any hidden damages or it is not as described by me) you can reject the deal, When this happens, Escrow will refund you in full, you can rest safe in the knowledge that Escrow is one of the most trusted and secure escrow services across the globe. If you wish to go further, let me know your details (full name, full address and home phone number) so I can open a transaction with Escrow and declare you as a buyer, I will need your details also to transfer the registration over, they will then contact you and explain the whole process in detail. You must know that Escrow will contact you without any obligation to buy or pay some fees - The fees will be paid by me.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Joel Pettit

PS: I’ve attached a copy of my driver's license, so you’ll see who you're doing the deal with.

So thankful for these reviews, I was contacted by Joel Matthew Pettit in response to an ad on AutoTrader. He seemed so legitimate, also sent a photo of his licence and a photo of himself. Alarm bells started to ring when he signed the email off as Matthew rather than Joel, I did a search and landed on this page.
Story was consistent with him being in the airforce and going to NZ.
Number given was 0480 003 785

Omg, thank god I decided to look this guy up. We were so close to doing this deal, until I seen his I.D. Could have got scammed for $10,000 for a 2017 Mitsubishi triton all kitted out. Same as everyone else he's in davenport in the RAAF, going to New Zealand for 3 years. He has taken the add down, but I'm pretty sure it was on autotrader.com. I can't believe he's still doing this it's now January 13th 2021.

Still going as of Jan 2021.
Advertised a white mazda 3, 2014 model for $7500 (autotrader.com.au) which seemed too good to be true. Received similar correspondence in spam email as described by other comments, down to the details about going to NZ and being based in TAS.
Lucky I found this thread

He's at it again, same exact story as everyone else. He conveniently keeps his whole RAAF ID out of the photo, I've asked him for a full copy LMAO I obviously won't get it. Correction, he just sent me a picture of a donkey. I must say he is probably on the better end of the scammers, has the whole email address thing figured out. Still have poor English and pushes too much for escrow too quick. Plus he couldn't match the Rego with the simple Rego checker - idiot

His recent number is 0480 003 785

He's back at it again.

He has a copy of his ID and everything, but fails to prove it with the full RAAF ID. Exact same story as Anonymous.
