Dude is still putting up ads for a Suzuki Swift with 29k km on Autotrader.com trying to scam people with the same 'going to NZ for three years and don't want it sitting in the garage' line. Only spoke to him through an email that was 'mitchel @ theaustralianroyalairforce.com' so if you get an email like this or anything similar, he's a straight catfish after your money, just block him and keep looking because if it seems too good to be true, it probably is!

If you got scammed, you should report it, to the company you saw the ad on. However, I think if you've given your personal details and transferred money, it's unlikely you will receive your money back. If you read this article on how to get help if you get scammed, you may be able to do something. https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/get-help/where-to-get-help#:~:text=If%20you've%20lost%20money,protect%20yourself%20from%20further%20loss.
Im glad I came across this, the same as everyone else the pattern is the same

I was looking for a car and came across a 2013 Levin Corolla ZR Auto, selling for $7000, it only travelled '82860km' and 'Nobody has smoked in it, excellent condition without any damage or scratches at all'. At first I was like its too good to be true. We messaged him and the next day the ad had disappeared, I just assumed someone bought it. Then just yesterday I received an email saying that his been 'messed around by one previous buyer for lack of funds, I can confirm that the car is for sale..'.
I was excited but then I analyzed the email. First of all wouldn't he use a personal email, instead of using the Australian defence force email, and the location he said it was on the ad was in Ashfield, then in the email he says its in 'Davonport TAS', because his squad its doing some special training. Then he said an RAAF truck is going to deliver it. He said the reason is his going to 'New Zealand for the next three years on August 28th'. First of all Covid-19, second, he changed the locations of the car, it just sounded like a load of bullsh*t. I just had a gut feeling that this was a scam and I decided to do a quick google search maybe something would come up, and I came across this forum, confirming his a scammer. Its unbelievable how many people his tried to scam!! And he is still at it.
Where should I report him?
Don't fall for this scam!!

0448 016 919 also uses this number.
Got the ‘mitchell Smith’ licence pic too.

I suspect that bloke was probably scammed too. And just sent his licence pic in as scammers requested.
If any of you actually sent your licence pic I’d be reporting that too.

Same story as everyone here. RAAF, living in Tasmania about to go to my for 3 years.

I went to the cops but they said nothing they can do and to report it to the Australian scam watch.
Maybe if you all do this they will look at stopping this grub.

I was so excited to buy a 2014 MAZDA 3 with only 55,000kms for only $7,500. I almost f*cking fell for it. At first the ad said that he lived in Summer Hill in NSW and I thought yeah I could travel to the city to pick up a car on the weekend. When I message him to say I was interested, the ad disappeared. I thought it had been sold but then found a reply from him in my spam folder. I should have left it there. I got so excited when he said it was still available then started talking about how he was in Tasmania right now and was leaving to go to New Zealand in a month for 3 years. I was in so much denial I was ready to go a head with it. Then he said he would send me the car but the transaction would have to go through escrow.com.
That was when I went, wait hold up what site is this? And thats when I did some research and found this thread. Thanks you for this thread because it just saved me a lot of money.
He still thinks I want the car and I haven't responded yet. Hoping to get some advice from NSW Police.
Thanks internet for being both full of trash and treasure!

Same message as Ben with the Suzuki Swift. Tried this in the second email "My last price including shipping to your address will be $5,000 (It will not take much more than 2-3 business days to receive the car). Because it's a large transaction, we will complete the deal using Escrow https://my.escrow.com/myescrow/includes/status/ coz I already prearranged the whole process with them, the money will be paid via Escrow, so you will deposit the money online directly to Escrow and they will hold and secure your money during the entire transaction. I repeat, they will hold and insure your money until you receive the car in good condition and will release the funds to us only after you decide to keep the car and normally register it, into your name. If by any reason (the car has any hidden damages or it is not as described by me) you can reject the deal, When this happens, Escrow will refund you in full, you can rest safe in the knowledge that Escrow is one of the most trusted and secure escrow services across the globe. If you wish to go further, let me know your details (full name, full address and home phone number) so I can open a transaction with Escrow and declare you as a buyer, I will need your details also to transfer the registration over, they will then contact you and explain the whole process in detail. You must know that Escrow will contact you without any obligation to buy or pay some fees - The fees will be paid by me."
And sent a photo of himself and licence.

Yep, this jerk is still going strong. Listing a Suzuki swift on carsguide.com low kms $5000. Claims to be in Tasmania in the RAAF and about to be shipped out to NZ. Wanting to do the transaction through escrow and claims to send the car through raaaf shipping. Also attached a photo of ‘himself’ with the name Mitchell David Smith with what looks like to be a QLD license. Reported to Carsguide.com also.
