I just received one of these calls, and was told that they will release the $7268 to my account as soon as I take $235 down to the post office and pay for lawyer that the federal government hired from Thailand on my behalf. When I get to the post office I must get a Western Union Form and to save being charged the higher commercial fee to lodge the form I must not tell anyone about my refund that I am going to get.

Have just jhad my third call today from these same scammers.......yesterday I count at least 5 calls and previous days similar numbers of calls also .... my magic number today was $7268,, gone up by $268 in just days ... must be inflation or interest payments.. I know I was interested in recieving such an amount of money right now.... pensions suck when bills come around.......

As others before me ask! "What is being done to track down these low life LEECHES, who pray on people in the hope that they will strike it luck and find a vulnerable ederly or unwitting person to apply their ways of confusion upon and stripe them of any finacial, property and dignity they have...........WELL AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.. What is your Department doing to RECLAIM our Peace and Quiet from these rude Bottom Feeders and give back our scence of Safety wne Wellbing and dignity of Privacy in our own homes?????"

Mary Poppins (alias so as not to alert scammers)

Just received a call from a male with Indian accent claiming to be from Australian Federal Government advising I had $ 7,268 dollars of overpaid bank fees to be refunded, given and ID number to quote to his supervisor Mr Paul Edward on (02) 8003 4171 and on doing so, would receive an NAB bank cheque for that amount in the next 24 hours, delivered by mail or courier, which ever I chose.

Second phone call ten minutes later asking if I had called the supervisor and when I advised that I had checked on the internet and it was a scam he said no Ma'am, it is not a scam but quickly hung up.

Alarm bells as I don't have accounts that have accdrued fees, certainly not to that extent anyway.

My caller was named Rhianna Johnson, with a very heavy indian accent. My magical amount was also $5248. She was getting annoyed with me when I asked what she wanted from me. She said 'Nothing, we don't want bank details or card details or anything'. When I then said 'Ok, I'm listening', she hung up !! What a pain.

They called me about 2 weeks ago to tell me that you have several thousand dollars ($7238.00) owing to me from banks that have been overcharging me with additional fees above their normal fees.
I was given a case number (KT 250), and was asked to call a NSW / ACT number (02) 8003 4171) to confirm that I am who I am.
Then they go through the process again. Asking me to confirm my name, date of birth, and my preferred type of payment,
The 'crunch ' came when they told me that they engaged and overseas lawyer to do the research, and he needs to be paid $250.00 in advance via the local PO, before I receive the cheque.
DON'T pay the lawyer, because the cheque will never be sent, and you will say goodbye to your hard-earned $250.00.
Another clue is: If you ask them to make the cheque out to another name, because you have remarried, or just changed your name, they supposedly take the details, and hang up.

I received a call 5 mins ago, yes an Indian womans voice from the reclaim department saying the federal govt had surveyed the banks and found they had over charged for bill payments etc. amount of $7000 plus needed to be refunded to me, and a Sharon Jones to call in Sydney with phone number. The only different thing about this was that it was a recording, it played twice then cut off. Has any govt agency actually followed these up and called the Sydney number ? The older generation that will believe these people are the most vulnerable, something needs to be done about this? Who has registered that number in Sydney? Has anything been investigated?

My experience was exactly the same as NJH. Same amount of money offered, same ref. no. same phone no to ring back. They wanted $199 up front for solicitors fees. I said I'll pay that when I receive the cheque and the money is cleared. When asked for bank details I said I'll send cash to there address. These parasites need beheading

Yep, had the same call today on my mobile phone. "Jenny" from the "federal Government reclaim Department", based in Sydney apparently wanted to refund me $5243.She gave me a ref number of SR500 and a number to call (02) 8005 7523. When she wanted my date of birth I told her that if it is really for me to just deposit it in my account, the details of which the federal government already have. She started to get cranky and I hung up. Can't believe this scam is doing the rounds again. The background noise of the call is terrible and you can clearly hear someone else going thru the same rubbish!!

These people can't be stopped in Australia because they aren't in Australia, they will be in India or Nigeria or if you get someone with a funny American accent, they are in the Phillipines. The Australian Government does not cold call people to give money back. You have to find out for yourself and request it back. There is no such department as the Reclaim Finance Department. If you were overcharged for bank fees, then your bank would refund the money directly into your bank account.

Maybe we should set up a call centre in Australia and start harassing all the wealthy people in India every day with the scamming phone calls. Honestly, Indian people wonder why Australians hate them when we are constantly inundated with Indian callers who are rude, obnoxious and are always trying to scam us out of money.

Received a call today, they were targeting my father-in law, said he was entitled to a refund of $7268.00.
The Indian guy on the phone quoted ref number of SI123, and he asked me how we would like this money paid.
I told him to send a cheque, told me to call his supervisor on (02) 800 6051, called the number and surprise surprise, the supervisor was not available. It is a total LOAD OF CRAP, DONT FALL FOR IT

They got Mum today. She"s pretty confused these days but thankfully I've got her pretty well trained. She knows we're on the "do not call register" and that Gov depts don't call, they send letters, so she doesn't tell them anything. But she still takes the details and asks me. I'm very grateful for this forum, it answered my questions instantly. I'm surprised this has been happening for so long without hearing about it.

I also received a similar call from the Reclaim Finance Dept. of the Australian Government. Same deal, overcharged fees etc. Followed through with the whole process doing just as I was asked. Received a cheque for $7,253 yesterday. Just kidding!!! Life in India must be hard to resort to such a dishonest act.

I have also received a number of calls over the past 2 days telling me to ring her supervisor on (02) 8091 3550 with application code ST31 telling me I had been over charged by my banks and would receive $7268.00 back I could have by a cheque but I had to go to the post office first and pay $250 cash to a Western Union money sending form to cover the legal fees for recovering this money, then ring them to help fill out the form before my cheque could be posted. I am glad I have found this site. Thank you I now know what I thought was untrue to be a scam.

I also received call and was told to call her manager on (02) 8003 5479 with a ref no of ST 31. The chilling thing was she knew my address, and my name, yet asked which bank I most often used and then the cheque would be written from that bank.
I just can't believe in 2014, with a technological world, this must stop. People are just plain fed up with the con artists, of which, most are not even Australian.
Or they have accents.
