Like you all I had the same call. I too said they could send a cheque. Alarm bells rang when I heard they wish to pay me money and the sum of $7250. I too questioned why I wouldn't receive a government cheque a pose to a bank cheque. I received crickets on the other side of the line. ( suppose they hadn't worked out that one.)

I didn't give them the correct date of birth but got my "so called" case number and the number to call back. I decided to call back and see how far i could play with them. As I gave them numerous objections to a western union cheque they became very abrupt and told me off for wasting the governments time and hung up on me.

Then I tried to call them back to let them know how frustrating it is receiving calls from such SCAM ARTIST and would you know they hung up on me several times and then blocked my number.

So solution: call them back a couple of times taunt them and you will never hear from them again.

Same here. I challenged the cow on the phone about sending a cheque because she said they would send a commonwealth bank cheque. I said to her that if it was the Government then they would send a government cheque. She got a little angry. I was told to ring Gary or Olivia. Yeah right....

Got a call today, the first time I've had this particular scam, it's usually the faulty computer one where they will fix it for a monthly fee, the scammers point you to the branch prediction error log file (which is a routine file) and offer to 'fix' the errors.
But this one today is the same as the one listed here where they claim they work in the Federal Government Reclaim Dept. and have calculated you are owed $7258 (my amount) and ask for your name, address and date of birth. (don't give any details) they give you number to call (02) 8003 4171 (02 is Victoria but the call could be redirected too/from an unknown location).
I asked the caller her name (Jenny Sernancies) but it could be false, in any case she spoke reasonably good English, she said that my case number was ST137 and to call Gary Smith or Olivia Johnson, Gary (her manager) answered and spoke bad English with an accent, rather unexpected for someone named Smith, he said I needed to go to the PO and get a Western Union transfer form and then come back and phone him and he will give instructions on how to fill it out to pay the 'one off' fee of $235 to cover expenses of doing the research on how much the Federal Government owes on behalf of whatever bank I deal with who have overcharged me in fees.
I won't be going to the PO to do any such thing, it's most definitely a scam, I doubt anyone with a few working brain cells would fall for such a dumb scam.
I think in future if there is any delay in the line when I pick up the phone and say hello I will just hang up because it's usually a pest call.

Picked up a call from same people at my parents' place. They had address (old one from phone book) and asked for my DOB for confirmation. I made one up (a slight exaggeration; it would have made me 103 years old) and they accepted it as proof of identity. Same phone number (02) 8003 4171 and names Paul Edward and Olivia Johnson with reference ID RF150. I don't know how they could pull this off because the caller is almost impossible to understand.

Just had a call from a woman with a strong Asian accent. Same story - representing the "Reclaim Department of the Federal Government". She said I was owed around $7,000 and a cheque would be posted to my address which she confirmed. She asked for my DOB which I gave and she gave me her manager's phone number (02) 8003 4171 plus a Ref ID. I don't believe in money for nothing - this has to be a scam

Yeah I had the same drum. As I knew it was a scam I had a little fun. I let him gone a bit then I kept on asking him to repeat the same thing over and over again. He did the same thing about getting me to ring his supervisor etc. In the end I got bored so I told him I knew it was a scam and asked him if he felt sorry that he was disrespecting his family name and that I was sure his parents would be sorry that their son was trying to scam people. He let me go on for a while and in the end asked if his parents knew what he was doing. I told him that he should quit this scan and go home and say; sorry to his parents. I must have got a new one as others have just commenced to swear. One other of these scamers I told him that I could not understand him as he was talking half English and half swine. He asked me what I was talking about. I told him that I think his mother had sex with a pig and produced him. He really got upset with that. I told him that his mother was so ugly that no decent pig would have sex with his mother because of her ugliness so his father had to hold the pig down so she could have sex with it. He went off. I just laughed.

I had a 'phone call from overseas with the story that I had overcharged bank fees to be returned to me from the federal government and asking for my DOB, they had my name and address, I didn't give the DOB and said if they had the address just to send the cheque here, but then I have to 'phone (02) 8003 4171 to talk to the supervisor Paul Edwards as he posts the cheques. Won't be ringing and won't be hanging out for the mail delivery:)

Scam scam scam scammy scam scam scam.
Or should that be SCUM?
I feel sorry for anyone who has been had by these a-holes. They will likely score money from trusting, naive people who hear $$ and are desperate for cash so will believe what they're told.

Yes, had the pleasure of talking to them today after they had been calling everyday for a week. I accidently let my D.O.B slip (should I be scared?) but I refused to give any more details when he kept asking for which bank i was with. While the caller was trying to give me a "file ID" and telephone number I questioned him on what department he was representing and he kept saying the recovery department. I'm sure they are going to call again and I'll give them a piece of my mind.
