My partner received the same call from a male with an obvious Indian accent claiming to be from the Federal Government's Debt Reclaims Department too and wanted me to call Alice Wilson back on (02) 8091 3550 regarding the same amount $7268.
I checked on Scam Watch which confirmed that this a known scam, so I called Alice who strangely enough had an Indian accent.... Funny that!
I asked if she was sitting in front of her computer and could she see the camera at the top of the screen - she said yes and then hung up.... Or maybe it was just a bad line? 😀
So I called again from a different number and after several attempts, got "Alice" again. I said "Alice would you mind turning your head a bit, so I can get a clear picture - I've just activated the camera on your computer".
I had to repeat it for her - she's not that bright - then before I could finish saying "the Federal Police are about to knock on your door" she hung up again.
I was so disappointed - I was really looking forward to getting to know her better! LOL
These people are the scum of the earth!
Tell all your friends to do the same.

I'm not sure you understand how a standard call centre/hosted PBX works, but believe me when I say you aren't doing a single thing to hinder them.

my parents had the same call and were advised they would receive $7000 and my father gave out some details!!! they also were asked to ring Rose Brown on 8091 3550. I called the number and was also told it was a federal government number. I Googled the number and found this forum.

Just had the call from 'Paul Harris' from the Federal Govt finance dept wanting to refund me, guess how much? $7268!!! How about that for a coincidence?!?
I confirmed the information he already had but refused to divulge any banking details. When he pressed me for that info, I said if he's refunding overcharges from my bank, he will already have my banking details on file, and he should read it back to me and I'll let him know if it's correct. He said he couldn't do that but they will send a cheque to my home address.
He gave me a 4 digit alphanumeric code to give to the managers Alice Wilson or Rose Brown when I ring (02) 8091 3550. While I was typing this message, he rang back to ask why I hadn't called the number he gave me, I told him I was busy reading the Aus Fed Govt Scamwatch site and how this scam was mentioned. I suggested he get an honest job and said goodbye!

Just received an online order for a very expensive watch and they used Aussie details but the phone number (02) 8091 3286 is diverted to some Indian dodgy character. The name he used was Mitch Dyer, I questioned him on his name, how an Indian person is called Mitch Dyer. De said his father was english in a very strong accent. I asked him where he is located, he said Sydney, guess what, his IP address came from Calcutta India. And people wonder why we hate Indian call centres !!

SCAM Number !

Received an attempted scam phone call ( claiming their number was from (02) 8091 3550 );
they told me they were from 'Internal TELSTRA computer interception Department',
and that my PC was 'infected with a virus';
transferred me several times ( so, I had kept them on the line, asking them to verify
to me which Department that was );
ultimately asked me to quote an internal computer code to them,
and I replied 'you quote me the number you have and I will then verify it'
the youngish ( Indian ) guy got quite agitated with me, so I said 'that's it, you're
attempting to scam me', and I hung up.
Of course, I did not ring their number !

I have played along for past couple of times to get info from him. Eventually he gave me his name Telstra ID and this phone number which led me here.

I will give him this he is persistand. i have hung up on him several times and i have been rude but they dont give up.

Just had a call from a very persistent guy called Peter Williams with an Indian accent - difficult to hear as very noisy. Told me my business internet was going to be shut down int eh next two hours if I didn't take the action he wanted - he even gave me his Telstra employee ID when I said I wasn't going to take any action without verifying who he was!

This organisation rag me and claimed to be from Telstra and that my laptop/PC/device has been infected by viruses and foreign IP addresses. I played them along (as I'm ex-telecoms) to see where they went. It was quite sophisticated and at the point where they wanted to download software to me device, I asked for their Telstra credentials and they gave me their names (two different guys) and this return phone number (02) 8091 3550). Having googled the number I found this page/site (thanks guys). When they ring me back I will hold them up on indefinite delays and compromise their processes as best I can. Meanwhile, I'll enquire of Telstra as to how to block the use of this direct dial number and its related outbound dialler. Thanks again, and keep the faith.

Just received a call (Indian) exactly the same as above. Said I was to ring Miss Rose Brown on (02) 8003 4791 regarding an amount owing to me from overcharged bank fees. Wanted to know my date of birth and also gave me a reference number.
Dodgy!! Remember if it sounds too good to be true, it is!

My almost 99 father was contacted by Mrs Rose Brown saying she was sending a cheque for ?700 as overpayment by him. He is hard of hearing & in a care facility, doesn't pay any bills, but is very much looking forward to his cheque. I rang this no. immediately, 'The Australian Dept of Finance'! It doesn't exist. On saying on who's behalf I was calling she hung up. The line was then engaged for the next 1/2 hour. I am unsure how many details he gave out apart from his date of birth. Agree with all the other contributors to this site. Why can't these people be stopped.

just had the same conversation with Rose Brown wanting my date of birth so the federal government could refund me $7268 in misused bank charges when I would not give her any information she suggested to ring her manager Alice Wilson on (02) 8091 3550, alarm bells went off in my head so I rang our local sitting member , Rose gave me a reference no RS150 to make it seem even more legal, how do we manage to catch these scumbags before they rip off some poor innocent pensioner or elderly person of all their money.
