This number was used by a nice representative from Telstra who was calling me back, after we had spoken previously for technical support, to follow up on questions and help me with services. So, though the number is not available to call back, this case wasn't a scam or telemarketing call.

A guy called Jason called me 4 times last week saying he was from Telstra, telling me that my computer had errors and would constantly download stuff that I didn't know. He said he would fix it for me with no charge. I asked him to tell me my B.O.D. since he was from Telstra. He could tell me the year only, but insisted that he was doing no harm to me. Jason asked me more than once whether I do online banking and shop online. After he persuaded me to trust him, got him on the 'team viewer', he handed it over to a ' telstra technician' who pretended to fix the error on my computer. Very soon that technician told me that he had fixed the problem for me and asked me to check my bank account while he was on team viewer. I then realized that he was a scammer. The technician wiped out everything on my desk top within 2 seconds!

Definitely scammers. Indian lady named 'Sandra' who said she was from Telstra and that there were hackers accessing our internet connection. We're not with Telstra. I tried to explain this and she became quite rude.

I was told by Telstra that this is not a Telstra number. Interesting how so many above comments have said it is legit?

If they start saying that your internet connection has been compromised by hackers - then it is a scam. Do not give them any information, and do not answer any of their questions. Just say Goodbye and hang up.
This is a Telstra number with a recorded message if you call it. It is not the number scammers call from, but it is used by Scammers to legitermise their call.

Yes it is a legit Telstra number but........ they were ringing from far North Queensland according to Telstra rep that I subsequently called. It is a scam. Ring Telstra back always in these situations. Telstra team very helpful. Never give remote access unless you are 100% sure you are dealing with your provider.

Scanners are giving out this number but not calling from this number. I had a complaint lodged with telstra and was phoned by this number. My complaint was dealt with and my relates account was fixed. Just because scanners quote a legitimate telstra number does not mean that's where they are calling from. If telstra tell you it's not one of theirs, they're wrong. It's the complaints and complex issues dept.

Caller: Telstra Cyber Crime Department (SCAM) I received a call from 04236974512 (recorded via phone call register). I requested caller Telstra employee ID and was given D865430 and told to call (03) 9107 5000 to confirm. The line was terrible AND I'm not with Telstra AND I won't be calling anyone. So, a word of caution, never give any information regarding your phone/internet/NBN or risk your personal details being stolen and your identity compromised.

I was called by a call centre staff member (someone called 'Andy') representing Telstra from the phone number (03) 9107 5000 on 14.11.16. They had received my recent request for spray paint graffiti to be removed from the sides of an on street public pay phone box. They called from this phone number to advise me they have arranged for the request to be attended to and the graffiti removed, expected within the next month. They didn't want any info from me except where the public pay phone box / booth is with the graffiti on. This all seemed legit in response to my concerns.

Definitely a scam, I missed the call on my house phone, the message left on machine was that my internet was going to be disconnected if I did not get back to them. I rang Telstra up and was told by a customer consultant that it was 100% scam. If Telstra needed to get in contact they would send emails or mailed letters in the post. She added the number to the national scams website.
