Today I received 5 texts from this number with a security code. Very swiftly, one after the other, and different codes. Yes, I have a PayPal account, but was not attempting to transact at that time, so seems Scammy to me. Password changed!!

Scam call. There was a recorded message, pretending to be Australian Government, that there is an important announcement, Press 1 for English, or Press 2 for Chinese. The recording ended there. How come can it assume that I am Chinese? Probably from my non-English surname. However, Australian government does not usually call people this way. Definitely a scam.

PAY PAL: You have a new money request. A SCAM!!!!!!

I always received sms from paypal confirming my transactions from this number. Today I received a sms from a different number asking to call another number 😂 Here is the sms: PAYPAL, Your Transaction Password 990971 to send $A1890.00 on 23-Apr-o7, If you do not recognize this action. Dial 1800 343 941 to stop payment Immediately; Blocked and reported to PayPal

RE: Paypal “Money Request”; under the guise of bogus ‘bitcoin purchase’.

Summary:
1. Two step scam: Phishing ‘PayPal money request’ followed by Smishing SMS from the scammer
• 1st: Scam via my PayPal account (using my privacy breach leaked email)
• 2nd: SMS smishing txt from scammer

Scammer info:
1. Landline offered (by scammer): (03) 9013 7501 (i.e. phishing) - note: DON’T call this number, you will be speaking with the scammers!!
[Seller ‘fake’ info on PayPal shows as: name=Yvonne Head, email=kevbrere @ optunet.com.au
Note: this info is fake, don’t both trying to email them. You could be disclosing information they need, assuming it doesn’t bounce back]

2. SMS mobile (by scammer): 0485 872 975, this SMS following the ‘money request’, on the same day (i.e. smishing) - note: DON’T reply or click on any hyperlink!!

My action:
1. Email from PayPal alerting me to the ‘money request’ was legitimate. I logged into my PayPal account and ‘reported/declined’ the visible money request from a scammer.
2. Reported phone numbers to ACMA txt reporting
3. Added both landline (per PayPal “Seller notes”) and mobile (smishing txt w/ hyperlink) here @ Reverse Australia
4. SMS; clicked on ‘report message’ offered via iOS ‘iMessage’

5. Time to create a ‘PayPal’ only email address used exclusively for PayPal purchases, since my multiple personal email(s) are compromised by corporate company privacy breach. These private email addresses will now be forever targeted by scammers!!

Probably a scam. My daughter received a PayPal security code confirmation when she was asleep and she doesn't have an account. Unless someone has accidentally used her phone number. But this number is a very similar number to one I have received legit PayPal texts from 0458 729 725) - sounds dodgy

I have a paypal app, so after receiving a text from this number i went to my app to find someone was trying to buy $500 worth of bitcoin using my account. I declined the transaction.

It said I had to authorise a pay now for a certain amount and gave me a name and number to press if I wanted to cancel. I didn't know the persons name or number that I supposedly was giving money to.There was also a link. I know it's a fake they sent an email as well. I reported the number and blocked it. I know it wasn't Pay Pay. I certainly haven't purchased anything for a long time.

Got text giving security code after having made purchase. Was not asking to click link. logged into paypal account- was genuine. I guess as there is no link msge is genuine.
On another matter i received a text that just had title BOOST under the i where the number appears telling to click on link as my renewal was due in 2 days (I am with boost). I knew i was not due as i sub yearly and then my wife got same message. So how do these scammers know which provider you are with and how can they send texts without showing a number. Surely telephone providers have the power to shut down ppl who are using their service for illegal activity and these ppl should be identifiable from when they were issued with the number and prosecuted.

Just be careful. I received a security code from this number which was supposedly from Paypal in the wee hours when I was asleep! I learnt my lesson the hard way. The previous time I received a similar security code, I logged into Paypal and updated my details and the 2FA was sent by a scammer which I believed it was Paypal. 2 weeks later I noticed 3 unauthorized transactions (large amount) linked to my cards on paypal.
