This number msg me after my old google account was hacked and they got access to my PayPal account and made 3 purchases in WA and changed my Google password so I'm unable to recover my account.

Tried ringing them back and msg but got some shady looking shifty pre made text reply claiming to be PayPal but says number is not connected. 100% a scam! Please don't give any info to this number! PayPal don't ask for information or msg you or send links via text.

NO IT IS NOT NECESSARILY PAYPAL. You people do realise that it is *very* easy to forge caller id? You cannot trust caller id.

Calling back is futile, it goes to the real number.

1. Don't ever use your phone for 2FA. If someone churns your number it is goodbye savings, bitcoin, credit rating.
2. If you have to, don't use the same phone number across sites, it identifies you. Facebook has *most* of the world's phone numbers now.
3. Paypal have broken their information sharing promises many times over, once bitten, twice shy.

Within minutes of my last paypal payment to a seller and after I had already received the usual email detailing the transaction, I received a text message saying that that specific payment (with the correct amount and the correct seller) was suspicious and to reply a number back to let them know that the payment was authorised (1) or not (2). The text message was repeated an hour later and two hours later. Because I don't remember ever getting text messages from paypal, I didn't reply to these texts. Because of the detailed information, I was quite worried though, so I logged on to paypal and sent them an email via their contact form. They have promptly responded: they sent an SMS message because my payment was relatively high compared to other payments I had made. The 0458 729 725 number is the official phone number of PayPal whenever they send a text message. I have now saved it in my contacts.

I received 2 text messages within 10 minutes of each other from this number after buying tickets. I had already received my receipt and tickets and thought it was suspicious.

[PayPal] Transaction of -.$ AUD to Viagogo AG on 17 February 2019 is marked as suspicious. Reply “1” if authorized or “2” if not authorized. [Reply Needed]

I rang PayPal and was told they have not sent any text and to delete immediately.

They are PayPal scammer.

I received SMS saying "PayPal Fraud alert: Are you trying to pay $1,598.00 AUD? If yes, reply 1. If no, reply 2. Msg & Data rates apply."

Whatever reply you send, they will then send PayPal "look a like" login link and if you use that, you will end up giving your PayPal credentials to scammers.
