Do not ever victim blame that's the only truly pathetic thing. Optus are just as much victims of the data breach as you or me, you're going off on them as if they just let them in, you're a pathetic loser.

I do agree this is a scam number though.

This an Optus number. I had a complaint & a tech repaired my internet. Not expecting another Optus call I missed it. I presume it was to survey how their technician went on a 1 to 10 basis.

Caller: Daniel

Received a call today from Daniel allegedly from Optus who advised that NBN requested Optus call as someone else allegedly was attempting to connect NBN using the address held by family for past 10 years. Asked Daniel for his surname refused. Asked if Daniel was working for NBN, and he said No. Asked why Optus would call on behalf of NBN if they are a separate company. Tried to extract personal information about account holder stating that NBN did not retain any personal information of account holder. Nonsense, personal information held by NBN is the address, name of account holder, and financial details regarding payments. Daniel then said his manager David was informed. Asked for David's surname, refused to provide it. I asked for the address on file for the family member, refused to disclose it. Daniel suggested that NBN may be cut off for a very long term customer of Optus and NBN due to some individual providing a 'utilities notice' showing the same address as my family. If this call from Daniel was legitimate Optus really need to reconsider their customer service strategy. I advised Optus had asked the family to attend their shop, which we did, to produce our proof of identity, Daniel said this was not necessary and there is a 'drop box' to have changes made to a client's records. Rubbish, a drop box does not provide requisite 100 point proof of identity, and any changes made without identity being confirmed is extremely poor practice. The shop front Manager advised that these calls are likely a scam as Optus does not ask for personal details for NBN and no record of Optus calling us was on the file. If you refused to give your full name, refuse to read the address from the file that you took our number from and don't act as an Agent for NBN, why call?

It is genuine Optus. I didn't answer the call because there was no caller identification. An Optus-labelled text message from "Damon at Optus" arrived a minute later saying he had called about an NBN fault I had reported. This was shortly after an NBN technician had repaired the fault. The Optus case reference number in the text message was correct. Later I found a voicemail from "Damon", again citing the correct Optus case reference number. I note several people who have posted here say they called Optus to verify the phone number and were told it is not an Optus number - but I doubt receptionists at any large corporation have a list of every phone in the company so they were probably just being fobbed off.

Optus. An hour ago I got a call from this number (02) 9174 3000). I ignored it then googled it. Google brought me to this site, telling me that it's a scam number. It wasn't a scam for me (though I'm sure scammers spoof numbers). They called me again, just now, so I answered it. It was from the Optus 5G team. I called Optus 2 days ago for support. The issue was fixed. Today's call was from the same guy I spoke to before - Matt - a follow-up to ask if the issue remained resolved and whether he should close the ticket. Yes and yes. I've had reason to call Optus a few times in recent months. This time it was a happy, quick resolution. Thank you Matt! Kudos.

I just hung up the phone with Optus as they changed my plan and it was already a completed task with no further reason to contact me. But THIS NUMBER above called twice, but I didn’t answer seeing as the other reviews said it was SPAM . They left a voicemail saying my plan was confirmed as changed, so idk if it’s legit or what but seems very suspicious they knew what I was doing. But I don’t think id answer it just based off other reviews.

Caller: Scam Optus caller

I had an issue with Optus and got given a case number after contacting TIO (ombudsman). Roughly 3 hours later I got a call from a lady called “Rio” saying she needed my details to resolve the problem. My gut told me this wasn’t really Optus and while on the call I quickly ran the number though Optus website for scammed numbers and on here and the number is not affiliated with Optus at all. So I told Rio I’ll hang up and call back using a regular Optus number as im not confident you are from Optus. To which Rio replied that if my matter wasn’t solved on this call she would have to cancel my complaint and I would have to start all over again which cemented my thought of this was a scam call.

I the got 2 texts stating 2 different numbers and the wording in the texts were also a red flag.
One said,
“Rio from the Optus customer resolutions team, I’d like to connect with you to resolve the issue related to (claim number) I will be in contact shortly from the above phone number which is again not a genuine Optus number.
Then minutes after that text she sent another stating,
“Sorry we were unable to contact you regarding your enquiry your reference number, please keep this number handy as I’ll be in contact with you within the next 2 days.

Now what the fake Optus women didn’t know was that the real optus had already posted my phone out and I received it early today, thanks to my complaint with the TIO.

After my phone got delivered hours later Rio tried to call again with the exact same text message wording except my complaint was closed due to it being solved I didn’t answer and blocked all numbers and lodged the numbers on Optus website for scam related calls etc. so hopefully others don’t fall for this as they had my order number and complaints number but the texts and way she spoke were red flags and I’m glad I ended the call without given my info over.

Hope this helps others actions being scammed by this number and remember to call Optus via their website contact number or go in store.

They said they are from Optus asking for personal details to identify myself. Caller ID didn't say it's Optus, accent was Indian, could be anyone.

There’s a lot of confusion on this page.
Just to clarify, this number is a legitimate number that optus calls you on, but like any landline has the potential to be spoofed by scammers. Optus sent me a message on my account saying that they would call from this number and the agent’s name. If you suspect that the caller from this number is not genuinely from Optus you can request that they send you a message to your optus account, which you can find under /mycases. If they can’t generate a message to your account that matches their name etc. don’t proceed.

Convoluted, we have ongoing issue with Optus now 2 September started late May communication with Optus to say the least is absolutely hopeless, had call today from (02) 9174 3000 did not recognize number so decided to check so I am here where it is suggested I would repeat suggested scam, followed this up with Optus,. checking previously customer relations contact phone number this was validated by them along with issue reference number,, now the interesting part the customer relations expert had included twice in two messages 0291743000 which Optus say is a scam all very circumspect and dubious, so where am I with our issue.absolutely bloody frustrated

Caller: Optus Case Management

Its Optus Case Management - They call if you use webchat or via their app to open a support case/log a fault.
They are genuine, once you confirm your name, number, post code they send a sms from Optus number to be able to access your file and troubleshoot.
They were persistent with the follow up calls as I missed them a couple of times.
But very helpful, resolved my complaint and back up and running
