This number called and identified themselves as from Optus (my phone provider). They wanted me to verify my details to get an exclusive offer. No thanks.

Here's a post on the Optus FB page confirming it is legit. Still, the way they go about it makes it seem suss doesn't it.

Calls daily at the same time, and never leaves a message. I answered and they claimed they were from Optus (my phone provider). There was a lot of background noise and they asked me to confirm my details before they could tell me about exclusive offers. Hung up and blocked the number

Received call yesterday at 6pm saying they were from Optus & had a "special offe" for me but needed to confirm my DOB. I said why do you need to do that, you rang me I didn't ring you. They said they needed it for their account details. I said if you have my phone number, you should have my account details on a computer in front of you. She continued to ask for my DOB & when I wouldn't give it to her said she didn't want to argue with me. Right then i knew it was a scam. Just rang Optus this morning...........they weren't really interested & needed 3 incidences to do anything about it. When I rang the number back, 80496146 it went to Optus with legitimate Optus "help" numbers. Strange

THIS IS OPTUS - They need you to confirm your details so they know that you - the client - are the one answering the phone. They're doing you a service and want to make sure it's you and not some random person signing you up for something you don't want. Think about it... your phone could have been stolen? It's standard procedure for any legitimate Call Centre.

Not a scam, I used to work for Optus call centre in Adelaide, they have to confirm at least one personal detail to make sure you're the account holder not just someone using the phone (e.g. teenager using phone but plan in parents name, stolen phone, etc.) but they're just ringing you to try and get you to upgrade to a new phone/contract so you're locked in for 24 months again. Sometimes can get a good deal, good if you're actually in the market for a new phone, if not just hang up or talk to them and they can put you on the "not interested" list but they won't always do that.

Why doesn't Optus do something about their name being used incorrectly?

To Lilly, go f*ck yourself. I don't care if they are legit or not. I don't care about your services.

Caller: Optus 6 calls in 6 days even after blocking the number. I called back and got recording to call other numbers for particular services. Ummm nope, they called me. If they persist with this the Ombudsman may be getting a letter.

I received a call from them today and I repeated hello a few times and I could hear voices but couldn't work out what they were saying, eventually line went quiet but still stayed connected after 10 minutes I hung up.

I had also got this as well, I knew it was not anyone I knew and then sadly my little brother picked it up and I heard him say it was from Optus as well. Luckily I hanged up.

Supposedly a call from Optus wanting to give me a better deal (my landline is with Optus) but wanted my date of birth! Sounds like a scam to me.

Caller: Optus? My husband answered this number and the man offered a deal to include NBN currently available but not yet taken up by us. The man quoted my husband's birth day and month but asked which year. The date he quoted was one we used to use but officially changed when we found out it was wrong. He also knew my email address but we didn't trust him after he got birthday wrong.
