I too received a call from this number after a live chat with Optus. I started my live chat at 9.37am and finished at approx 10.15am. I received the call at 10.17am. Very suss. It took 3 attempts with different Optus staff before I got the right one to deal with my issue. Caller: (02) 8049 2850
Have these calls multiple times after failed Optus on line chats (THAT service is GARBAGE). It goes straight to missed call, and when you call back its a disconnected number. Either more Optus HORRIFIC service or a scam.
Number has called me a couple of times and just hung up straight away. When I rang back said it was disconnected. I notice ther people who have had data usage queries also received calls from this number - very strange. Missed call on office landline. Called back and advised number disconnected. Bit strange seeing as I am not with Optus and never have been. Haven't answered the calls and blocked the number i have a call from (02) 8049 2850 , when i call the number back , optus advises me that the number you have called has been disconnected . they ring me 30mins lata and my mobile doesnt ring it just pops up as a missed call.

I was on live chat. After finishing live chat this number called me twice and I rejected the calls. The third time I answered and the person on the other end didn't say anything just could here typing on a keyboard. I hung up and blocked the number. Long story short. Got a call from this number (02) 8049 2850) after an Optus live chat (the live chat was successful so I didn't actually need a follow-up call - first warning sign). After getting suspicious, I told them I'd ring Optus back, and I did.
According to the Optus salesperson I rang, apparently it's a legit Optus customer's number, but the Optus salesperson I had called had no idea why I would get a call from that number.
End result: The salesperson said they'd put a note/warning on that account, and they said I'd be fine to blacklist/block this number on my phone. So, seems pretty "Not Really Optus" to me.
I was on tech support with them and they needed a phone number to call this was the number that called me, it's Optus It is Optus call back after on live chat inquiry. Legitimate call from Optus.
Calls from this number are usually regarding some kind of action request on your account. The call I received was in response to a complaint I submitted online the day before.
Got a call and no one answered. I hung up and when I wanted to dial out the other end was still connected.Finally they hung up. I Dialled *69 call and got the number and pressed 1, then got a message "Optus regrets that the number you have called has been disconnected." Really, who are they and how are they able to ring a private number? optus call centre
