I live chatted with Optus after reading this thread and they said this is their marketing team and they'll opt me out if I want. I get calls at least 5 times a day and if I answer no one is there
Tried calling back but "Optus advises the number you have called has been disconnected" The called wanting claiming to be from Optus to verify my details and talking about NBN. They had my old address from 10 years ago but they knew my date of birth. I refused to give my address as they should have it and they soon finished the call. I disconnected my Optus landline/broadband yesterday.
Last night sometime after 9.00pm when I turned my phone off I got a call....which showed up as a missed call when I turned my phone back on at 7.30am this morning.

Optus broadband customer support. After i applied online for an nbn connection, the followup call was from this number. And yes it is a bit of a noisy line, with some static sound in it and background voices, so its probably from an Optus Indian call centre that routes via this Optus Sydney number.
I too received a call from this number after a live chat with Optus. I started my live chat at 9.37am and finished at approx 10.15am. I received the call at 10.17am. Very suss. It took 3 attempts with different Optus staff before I got the right one to deal with my issue. Caller: (02) 8049 2850
Have these calls multiple times after failed Optus on line chats (THAT service is GARBAGE). It goes straight to missed call, and when you call back its a disconnected number. Either more Optus HORRIFIC service or a scam.
Number has called me a couple of times and just hung up straight away. When I rang back said it was disconnected. I notice ther people who have had data usage queries also received calls from this number - very strange. Missed call on office landline. Called back and advised number disconnected. Bit strange seeing as I am not with Optus and never have been. Haven't answered the calls and blocked the number
