I came here after they called for the second time. Both times they called knowing my address but not unit number and asking if we could go to a certain unit and talk to this woman who was in debt...

I called them today and it was a person from Lion Finance,
The girl I spoke too was extremely polite and informed me that they were trying to get in contact with a person who I didn't know (I have a new phone number which was listed as their details)
She then took me off the call list with no hesitation.

Truth

Why hasn't anyone taken Lion Finance to court if they are breaking the law?... As for Lion Financed being fined is BS. Lion Finance can only contact a customer 10 times across a months period, will only contact third parties (family, friend, neighbors etc...) A second time if they have been granted permission from the third party, if not their number is removed and can be contacted again after 6 months. Lion Finance is required to obtain permission to call back a third party from the third party. You do need to make it clear to them that you don't want to receive anymore calls, so if you hang up without speaking with them, then of course they'll call you back, because to them, there are many reasons as to why the call could've possibly dropped. Despite what you all may think, Lion finance has helped so many people. So stop being so dramatic! Lion Finance called my home phone wanting to know if I knew a customer, my partner adv them he's never heard of that name in my family and to call back when I'm home, my partner also granted them permission to call back. Haven't heard from them since. People get sacked for breaching compliance after warning after warning and being re trained.

Called me, I missed the call, so I called them back. They wanted to know about a neighbour in my units. I hung up.

Rational Thinker

Mandy and others who say this, it is fantastic you were never in the position to miss a payment or defrauded by relatives, who took out loans in your name (and because they are so close to you, were able to do it in such a way that you have no legal recourse and even if you did, hey are the sole breadwinners for their small children, so really you won't be doing anyone a favour by pursuing this through legal means, which will also cost you as much as the debt itself). Judging strangers by a tiny bit of information you have on them makes you more of a loser than anyone you judged for whatever they did.
But on the other note, regardless of what happened, there is a lot you can do legally to not be harassed and to end this at a minimal cost. And there is a lot these companies are not legally allowed to do.
Also the whole loan/banking system is based on trust, confidence and risk. So a defaulted debtor is part of the process. It is the risk calculated and included in the loan itself. So technically a number of people defaulting for personal reasons is part of the system and what makes it a successful business (otherwise there'd be no interest to charge if there was no risk of default). So it is within the person's right to negotiate a settlement with pennies on a dollar, not fall for harassment, not have your life be thrown into a turmoil because of not being the best at managing personal finance or experiencing hardship (jeees, they must have really deserved that, I bet!) or to dodge an unsecured loan collector, because this is what the risk included. So just playing by the rules.

This number called me asking if I know the people in unit xx and asked me to drop a note in that units letterbox saying to "please ring 1800 708 125 and ask for Jade" and like a fool I said sometime I would (now after reading here not sure when that will happen and I have now blocked this number on my phone anyway! I am not against people paying their dept I suppose, however maybe they should drop the note in the letterbox themselves.) I asked how she got this number and the answer was "from a public register?"

Disgruntled

Lion keep contacting me over the telephone despite requests via an initial phone conversation to contact me by email. I refuse to speak to them.

They phone me when I am at work and I will get FIRED if i use my phone at work - and I am not spending my own money to phone them.

They are chasing a "debt" that is not really a debt as the company originally did not cancel my utilities in time.(I provided my leasing details to the company at the time) I thought I had resolved this with the company (which now doesn't exist) and all of a sudden, lion are asking me to pay a bill from 6 years ago. I have requested them in email to contact the company (who no longer exists) and give me proper billing information as the paperwork they can provide me says nothing except a single overdue notice (but when I sent them notification of my debt being an error, they still continuously phone me every day from land lines, unknown numbers and random mobile numbers. CHECK YOUR EFFING EMAILS!!!!

we receive calls from these people on a private number asking for someone who does not live here for the past year.i pretended to be that person to find out that it was lion finance calling.they have refused in the past to say where they were calling from.i googled them to find their number and rang them back on (07) 3292 1000 and asked for lion finance.i asked to speak to a supervisor and was finally put through to a team leader called charity.i informed her that I have had a gutful of their calls to my number and will be reporting them to the ombudsman.

Lion Finance,
I have an arrangement set up with them, payments come out fortnightly, now they are calling about 5 times per day to say i am in arrears by $25! I am not and my payments online show i am up to date. They dont leave messages, just keep calling, then use a private line with an automated message!

Lion Finance do lie to try and get what they want. I have no outstanding debt but they called my work to do a check on me, my boss asked in relation to what and they replied she is trying to get finance....................... My boss he knew I would advise him if I was doing something like this that needed an employee check. Turns out it was lion or is it lying finance trying to get my full details. They got my mobile number and when I told them I would not speak to them as I had no debt and hung up they called again shortly after, got my husband and he advised them he would see them in court for harassment. have not heard from them since. Makes you wonder what they where after.

Bullsh*t !!! Check out the the 2009 debt collectors rules as laid down by the Government, there are limits to how many times per month they can call. All letters containing inferred threats of demanding money, dire results are against the law.
Bankruptcy is usually only for three years, unless you have been really naughty.
The above comment is full of inferred results and it appears to have been written by someone in the collection industry.

These rude disgusting people at lion finance rang my poor elderly neighbour and asked him to get me to call them. I cannot believe they have the nerve to call a neighbour i hardly know and harass him. Unbelieveable. And when i rang and asked for their complaints number the woman gave me a false number. Just disgusting

Want to speak to the person that recently had a car accident; were told no one of that description in household, but very insistent. Refused to ID themselves. Obviously scamming, probably from SE Asia or sub continent. Could be using a proxy telephone hook-up.

It's hilarious that you defend Lion Finance. They're filthy pond scum that harass, threaten and try to intimidate people! I have NO debt what so ever with this company and yet they continued to harass not only me, but my friends and family! It made no difference what so ever to them that they had the wrong number and person OR that they had NO RIGHT to contact family and friends asking personal questions about me! They still did!! So don't come on here and defend these filthy parasites trying to tell people that they act in a legal and above board manner! Whether you have a debt or not, these MAGGOTS harass and (attempt to) threaten and intimidate people!! So get off your high horse and sit yourself down and shut up before you make silly statements defending a company like Lion Finance!! Get your facts straight because honestly, you really are embarrassing yourself!!

Stop pleading your case here Lion Finance - I'm FINE with you calling the debtors, but why do you think you have a right to call unrelated people like me?

That's harassment.
