My lord some of the comments in here are just plain IGNORANT.

Its a Telstra number for an overseas call centre. The reason you cannot call the number back directly is because it is exactly that, a display number. Think of their phone system as a big PABX system. Lots of extensions in one big centre. If they provide you an alternate number to call back on its because THATS HOW YOU GET BACK TO THEM.

If they ask you for identification, they ALREADY have this in front of them. Its for identification purposes only. They cannot just go talking to whoever picks up the phone on the other end can they, now THAT is a breach of privacy. Their asking you to confirm your DOB is NOT.

This is a legitimate Telstra number for one of the overseas call centres. I received a courtesy call from this number/Telstra confirming that my technician will be arriving tomorrow to attend my Bigpond fault, which I raised with them last week.

I've had 3 calls from this number. They ask me for my name and date of birth which i refuse to give them. When i ask them to provide more information about what they are calling about they tell me they need my details before proceeding. Total scam!

Rang 7:20 pm. Claimed to be from Telstra, ringing to check the line. "Is your number xxx?" "No." "Is your number yyy?" "No." "What is your number?" When I said that I could not be sure that the caller was from Telstra she politely ended the call. (I am not a Telstra customer. NBN not due in this area for some time.)

Had a call from this number claiming to be Telstra about arranging for NBN connection. We arranged for that a few weeks ago, however the caller didn't seem to have any record of that. He wanted to verify my name and date of birth, which I did, but how on earth can we ever verify it really is Telstra! (I have my doubts that it was.) These scam calls are a very big problem. Surely Telstra can trace and block these callers from harassing us after they've received complaints about them.

This number cannot be called back, it is indeed 'disconnected'. If you missed their call (telstra's), then just wait for them to call you again...
In my case, it was related to a number that I was porting over from the optus to the telstra network.

Call from this number saying it was on behalf of Telstra and my NBN order! The thing is I am not with Telstra and have had the NBN on at my address for at least 18 months! Draw your own conclusions!

Keep getting the same script but from different numbers. Says internet outage, ring a 1800 number, Team Telstra.
Got annoyed and actually rang the 1800, goes nowhere, just goes quiet.
Rang Telstra and they said it was a scam and are trying to trace the numbers they use to their origins.

First I missed the call but the second time "Sam" explained it was just Telstra verifying my physical address in case of emergency. I asked a lot of questions and seems legit but I'm not totally convinced. As I said, you hooked my service up 4 months ago, surely you know my physical address.

This sounds like Telstra but I'm not convinced. They wanted my date of birth for verification. He gave me a reference number but it didn't match anything I have. Ive rung the guy I ordered my NBN from to check. If it is from Telstra, they need to fix their processes as it sounds dodgy especially after the recent news about personal details about NBN customers being leaked. If it is legitimate why does the number appear in this list? If its not, how can they keep doing this for 4 years????

Hopeless! Hopeless! Hopeless! What more can be said. After stuffing up a simple order back in January 2016 and now being harassed by a lady from overseas on this number, not impressed can only guess they are trying to increase their stats to justify their existence.
