If anyone gets a call from this number for future reference. The ATO would not deal this way. There would be no warrant for arrest as it is a Civil Matter. The matter would have to go to the Local Court first. You would first have to receive a notice of demand giving you a set number of days usually 14, 21 or 28 days. The ATO is not based in the 9618 area they are in Parramatta, Sydney and other offices but definitely not in the 9618 which is an old Ingleburn number which is a suburb of Sydney. Do not give out any bank account or personal details. Next time they call maybe ask them where you can send the payment. Give them a bit of hope...scam them back and play them

This is the 2nd time I have had one of these scam calls - first time a female this time a male. Used the arrest warrant feature.

This is so dodgy.. When I asked to get taken off the list, I was told to go f**k myself.. Wow- the cheek! Hope these guys get caught and go to jail for the money they're taking off innocent people!

Just called the missed call back, indian telling me he from Australian Taxation Office, told me there was an "aferdavid" issued due to unpaid legal fees. WTF I told him to go to the nearest cliff and jump off, he hung up very quickly. OMG get these twerps off our telephone system.

Have read and heard plenty about this, but today I got my very own warning from the ATO.

My mother in law got this today, she`s in hospital so i followed it up, obvious scam as they wanted government certified voucher to be couriered to them

Just had a call from (02) 6188 6079 some Indian sounding scumbag told me I was reported to the taxation office for tax fraud ! Then told me he was from the justice department !
When I told him I work for the Australian Taxation Office he hung up & has now blocked my number !

defibately span. Even ATO employees have received calls from this number pretending to be from the ATO. Definately a scam, ignore the calls and DONT call them back.

A guy named Frank Martin is incestantly calling me demanding money owed to the the Australian Tax Office he identifies himself as badge number 1072 his file number is 765321, followed by my case number being 163249, apparently i owe back taxes from 2008/2013 and is demanding $1221 up front and to keep the matter PRIVATE. This is both upsetting and unsettling, do I need to contact the Federal Police on this matter

I got this call. I can confirm it is a scam from overseas. I am a former ATO employee and even I got the call. Have reported it to ASIC.

Same thing to me

I just received the same voice message as mentioned in previous posts.
I panicked thinking I was in trouble (not that I should have been) so I called back and the person who answered was foreign and I questioned what it wAs they wanted. They had incorrect details of me and when I started to question them more they apologized for troubling me and hung up.

Automated message asking me to ring a number back or face legal actions :)

YES scam - we contacted our Accountant - she rang tax office for us (NOT THE NUMBER theese idots quote) and they have NO problem with us. BLOCK the number on your phone

most defiantly a scam I ph the ATO and reported them just be careful they are so persisted .

I got a message too - the hide of people! I also was told that a complaint had been put on my tax file and that if I did not call back within 8 hours legal proceedings would commence.

Another scam, I had the exact same call around this time last year.

My husband has received 2 calls in the past 2 days. On both occasions they left messages threatening legal action, citing a complaint made against him and non payment of a tax debt. He called them back today and got an Indian who once again made threats.
