Have tang the ATO as to regards of this tax warning i got with a message left in my voicemail from this number..It is a scam thats been around for years..They have the cheek to leave voicemail which is weird and their number isnt hidden..Idiots Hope they catch you!

Call at 8:30am on April 7 2016. Automated voice message from the Australian Taxation Office, something to the effect of "There is a complaint filed on your name and your personal information is under investigation. If you do not respond within 8 hours you may face legal actions."

I called the number to find out what was going on. An agent for the "Commonwealth Justice Department" (or something like that) answered the phone, began the conversation politely "How are you today, sir". The accent was foreign, at a guess Philippino or Mexican, but the line was clear enough to be local. There was an accusation of tax evasion over an 8 year period and I was asked whether I wanted this to go to court. I said of course not and that I would take up the matter with my accountant. The agent said the matter had to be resolved now or the ATO would freeze my bank accounts and assets. I was asked if I had a barrister or solicitor who could represent me in a court of law. I was ordered to pay $3600 for tax in arrears or face arrest. I said I was pretty certain the ATO wouldn't conduct an investigation in this manner and that I wanted to see something in writing. I was again ordered to pay up immediately or face arrest. Again I refused and the caller said the matter was to be referred to the police, and hung up.

One hour later (and again two hours later) I received a follow up call. I didn't answer. On both occasions this message was left (exact transcript):
"This is a final warning from Australian Taxation Office. Urgently call us back on (02) 6188 6079. There is a complaint filed on your name and your personal information is under investigation. If you do not respond within 8 hours you may face legal actions. Thank you." It was a mechanically generated voice with an Australian accent.

I later called the number and spoke with an agent named 'Roy Wilson'. The accent was Indian. I mentioned my conversation earlier in the day with his colleague, and asked why the ATO had received many complaints over recent days about scam calls from this same number. The line went dead.

this is one big scam do not fall for it they will make threats for arrest and your name put in the papers to discredit your family name and freeze your accounts so you can get no money I spoke to the ACCC they said it was a scam

Yes, I've received a couple of recorded messages from this number.
It's interesting that they use a recorded message with an Australian accent.
I ALWAYS ring these people back, pretending to be an old lady who has been taken in by the scam. I keep the Indian scumbag talking for a long as possible and just when he thinks he has made the sale I unleash a torrent of abuse.

had 3 voice messages from these twits, ATO notified, complaint filed.

keep getting a recorded message saying Warning..this is the tax office..u are have been reported ..ring this number or u you will be faced with court..
I have never had a problem with my taxes and they are done regularly each year byt an accountant..I will be ring the ATO to find out what the hell this is but im assuming it is a Hoax

This number rings and you get a voice message stating its the taxation office and a complaint has been lodged about you. they request you ring back. when I did i got an indian who hung up on me when I said i was from the justice department.

We got a phone call as well, tell them that your phone is being monitored and the call is being traced.

Hi All! I have just had the exact same call from these scammers. Obviously the are still getting money out of people otherwise they wouldn't keep doing it. I wouldn't bother calling the police, they will not to anything unless a crime has been committed, and even then if these scammers have managed to get your money the boy in blue are so under resourced that they couldn't do anything about it.

But there is something that you can do. This number is allocated to www.symbionetworks.com who is a wholesale VoIP provider. I encourage you all to contact them on (02) 9994 8555 or 1300 789 653 to voice your complaints about this number. If enough of us call they may actually do something about it.
Additionally, you can contact the ACMA ScamWatch service and lodge a complaint against this company for operating a carriage service that is being used for fraud. Their contact number 1300 795 995.

These guys don't stop calling. they keep trying with different numbers. don't fall for their scams!

This scam is up and running again; using the same number!

had the same automated call from (02) 6188 5619 saying my house was under surveilance and there was an affidavit from ATO against me. Saying I needed to call immediately.
I had something similar a while ago so new it was most likely a scam. just wanted to document the phone number in case anyone else received this from this specific number.
Have ignored it and now blocked the number

I don't know if this is the same number, as it shows up 'unknown' to me, but its an automated message saying something about "ATO criminal investigation' then an Indian with lots of background noise starts talking. I googled the ATO warning and got this thread.

They called twice yesterday, hung up both times as I was too tired for scammers, then just this morning I get another automated call, same robot female voice, "This is your final warning, we strongly urge you to contact us at blah blah blah" (its too early for me to be remembering numbers) and the line dropped out as soon as thelast number was said.

Final warning, eh. Looking forward to the 'consequence'.

Have been hassled by this scam so many times. I just block their numbers

They've been harassing my mum for days, pretending to be the ATO. I didn't even know about it until just now, when I was visiting and they called her again. Her face went pale and her hands were shaking. She didn't realise it was a scam until I broke the news to her. She's been terrorised by these people, they've stolen over $5000 from her in just two days. I am absolutely sickened and disgusted by the state they've left her in. I hope the police catch them soon, the bastards.

Just received a call from this number now saying they were from the ATO. It is a massive scam.

Received the call today, apparently I'm off to jail !!!
Same call everyone else is receiving, call back within 6 hours or further action will be taken.

Surely with 6 pages of feedback and numerous complaints to official agencies, no one is doing a thing to stop it. It appears apathy is on the increase with government agencies and they don't care.

These people are claiming to be the tax office and insisting you call them back within 8 hours or else further steps will be taken. A huge scam! !
