I received a call twice from this number just today with that exact message. Luckily phoned the actual ATO and found out that it was a scam.
I have kept the message to earn others.
These people just don't care of the anxiety or unnecessary stress they cause.

had 4 missed calls from the male mechanically engineered male voice each voice mail left was "This is a final warning from Australian Taxation Office. Urgently call us back on (02) 6188 6079. There is a complaint filed on your name and your personal information is under investigation. If you do not respond within 8 hours you may face legal actions. Thank you." I did not call back just deleted messages. I mean seriously how stupid do these people think general public are. If the ATO were seriously investigating you there would be paperwork in the mail, emails sent as well as phone contact to others phone numbers held.

I rec'd a call on the 20/4/2016 at 11.35am this automated voice message is a male aussie accent- the scammers have copied an ATO VOICE MESSAGE to use when scamming people via phone (02) 6188 6079...
when you return the call an Indian male with an indian accent picks up the phone ... and dribbles on about being an agent for the Commonwealth .. bla,bla,bla..
this idiot is a total fraudster.
I have no idea where the ATO is based and they will need to address this issue asap.

Thank you all for reporting this number. I didn't answer as I didn't know the number, searched it and found this page, called it back myself and they started up with the "Australian Taxation Office" claim. I hung up and searched contact phone numbers for the ACTUAL ATO and this number definitely isn't listed.

I have now left a complaint with the ATO so hopefully this scam gets stopped soon!

Re: Block a number from sms or calling you. you can also block numbers and calls using your phone (provided you have the latest software iOS7.1.1) if you tap on the 'i' next to the number then scroll all the way down then you can choose the option Block this Caller. Also this can be used for txt messages as well.

Same stupid attempt at intimidation. Checked it here immediately but no surprise to find plenty of info re the scam.  Aussie male voice. Will report.

Just received my 5th phone call from the 'ATO' this time with a time frame to call back. And the cheek to leave phone messages just makes me laugh.

Received call at 11:30am today. Recorded message with ATO threat. I will ignore it.

This Indian guy is still trying to work his scam. He called me today.

Yep they are scam , very convincing once talk to them .... Aggressive but get fast answers from superiors .. They want instant cash right now or it's the LAW on you ... Reported to the scam with ATO ... Be aware !! And yes they keep calling an are persistent ....

SCAM.
Automated message left advising legal action from the tax office - didn't mention my name, tax file number etc. Scam as I use an accountant and this phone number isn't linked to my tax file number.

I have just had 4 calls in the past 2 hours from this number! Same deal, nasty sounding alleged ATO message. I reported them to the police and am trying to have that number blocked from my phone. Very nasty sounding people, would hate to think that some vulnerable person would have got these calls.

Got the same scam message today. You would think with everyone who has had this and the obvious contact made to ASIC, ATO possible even AFP that Telstra or such would be able to disconnect any calls made back to that number and route an automated response to let people know it is a scam.

Just received a call on my mobile saying "this was a warning from the Australian Taxation Office you need to ring". I hung up at this stage as I knew it was a scam

Rang my husband today and lucky for him I use to work for the ATO so when the caller heard that he promptly hung up. Needless to say I rang back and gave them a piece of my mind. I hate that they will scam people out of their hard earned money.

So far today I have received 2 pre recorded statements stating that they were the from the ATO. First one stating that some one had made a complaint against me then a second similar but slightly different, was more insistent that I ring back the number immediately. I plan to ignore the calls. The Telephone number to the Australian Tax Office is 1800 193 393 Mon to Fri 8am to 5pm and if you need a help with languages other than English you can ring the Translating and Interpreting Service on 13 14 50.

First phone call I received from this number was at 10:29am. Missed the call. Again they attempted at 12:14pm then left a message saying "(02) 6188 6079 This is a final warning from Australian Taxation Office. Urgently call us back." Fortunately for me I was on the phone to the ATO, and everything was all in clear. So I rang the number back and they asked me to confirm my details, to which I declined and advised them "You have been reported to the Police and Scam Watchers." Surprisingly they hung up. So I called back and immediately they said "Mrs ******** this is Officer King of COMMONWEALTH PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS and the matter is in the hands of police, you will be arrested today!" Hahaha, sorry Sir Bullsh*t you won't be scamming me today GET A REAL JOB LAZY ASS, then I hung up. Case closed.
