I was advised in a text message to call the number regarding an "urgent" matter that had been referred to them and to quote some bullsh*t reference number. I was sus on it thinking it was a scam and now I see it's bullsh*t so leaving another comment to confirm I to have been contacted and think it's a scam.

Just received an SMS offering to reduce a debt. I'd laugh my arse off if it wasn't getting annoying, definitely no unpaid accounts from within the last 5 years for them to be trying to collect on. SCAM.

Got a text from 0447 817 876 asking me to call1300 361 478. i looked up baycorp website and called 1300 558 830. Woman their told me she could not find anything on that reference number but 1300 361 478 was their number as well as they had quite a few numbers. told her could not be me as I do not have any debt with anyone.Transferred me to Manila where a guy transferred me to someone else as it was not the correct department. Finally, a Filipino woman tried to get my details after I gave her the reference number but she wouldn't tell me the reason for calling. I had given them only the first three letters of my name and they called me by an incorrect name assuming that would be my name. Absolute scam. Baycorp is a trash organisation and obviously trying to scam innocent people now it seems. Avoid them.

Caller: SMS from Baycorp to "contact us today on 1300 361 478" Received the above before but ignored them as phishing scams and today's experience proved me correct in my presumption. SMS'd from the above yesterday. I called this number and the operator asked who they were speaking to. I told them that since I'd provided them THEIR reference # that he should tell me. He didn't answer this question then asked, "Do you know Admir?". I ended that call, looked up Baycorp's website and called a different 1300 number and the woman there airily provided that there are a list of other 1300 numbers that "Baycorp" use. I had a very heated discussion (from my side) with her and told her I would be reporting "Baycorp's" business practice to the relevant independent regulator. She kept referring to how my number might have come up during "Baycorp's" "data washes". If it wasn't for the fact that for more than a decade I've received thousands of phishing scam emails and in the last few years, plenty more phishing SMS's and if I was perhaps more elderly or vulnerable in some other way, I suspect today might have ended with me being financially worse off. Found these links from ASIC https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/scams/companies-you-should-not-deal-with/unlicensed-companies-list/b https://asic.gov.au/about-asic/contact-us/how-to-complain/.

Caller: Baycorp Baycorp tried calling me 3 times before but they never left a message. Today I got a text message with a reference number and the request to call them. So I called them to get it over with, quoted the reference number, and only confirmed my first name and phone number (they obviously had my phone number already anyway). With that info they established that I wasn't the person they were looking for (Leah something) and said that they now had deleted my number from their records. Seems they were trying to collect a debt from the person who previously had my phone number. Bit annoying but not too much of a nuisance.

Caller: Baycorp foreign overseas debt purchases They rung me and asked for my name and date of birth. I gave this to them. They then asked me where I have lived in the last few years. I asked them where they where calling from and on who's behalf. They refused to tell me. Be aware these people buy debts you refuse to pay for one reason or another and try to extort you into paying them. But first they try to get your personal details to probably sell to marketing agencies. They then sell your name and database and you receive thousands of unwanted telemarketing calls.

I continually get texts stating to call today in regards to a personal matter. So today I decided to call. When asked to verify who I was, told him that when he gives me his name address and DOB, I would give him mine. I then asked for the name of the company he was working for and that companies ABN. Was told to hang on a minute, then told their system had crashed so he would need a few minutes to get me the company ABN. After I told him it should be on all their letter heads I hung up. Immediately I got a call from a private number which I declined to answer.

I don't know about legit collection agencies. I do know that reference numbers speed up the identification process. Part of that process doesn't involve giving my mobile number so it can be removed from the "system". It should be what she's looking at and easily noted that the number is wrong. But then, it wouldn't be a scam would it.
