Not a scam. I got a text message asking for confirmation whether or not a suspicious transaction was fraud. I saw the transaction on my internet banking called back St George on the number on my credit card. Best to call them up directly.

LEGIT ST GEORGE: Received sms advising block on credit card due to suspicious transactions.'Reply NO for fraud'. Replied and received call from bank. They cancelled the card and are issuing a new one. Don't know how scammers got card...probably a skimming machine...A-holes!!

Looks a bit dodgy, but was real:

Message from Westpac with time and amount of a transaction I didn't recognise, and asked me to reply "Fraud" if I didn't recognise it. I did see the transaction online. I replied "Fraud" to the message, and got a message back the day after, saying that they blocked my card and would call me within 20 minutes. They didn't call me within 2h though. :P In the end I called them and (after the usual phone queues) got it all sorted out and everything refunded.

So as others said, best to verify yourself and call them directly, so that you know that you are actually dealing with your bank.

I got a message from this number with a Westpac alert saying a transaction had been blocked. I thought it was strange, an alert coming from a mobile number... But I called Westpac and my card had been blocked because a bunch of transactions had been attempted overseas.

It’s a genuine text from Westpac about Suspicisous transactions on my credit card. I immediately checked my online statement and someone was running up Uber charges right at that time in the USA. I then replied fraud and that triggers your card to be temporarily blocked. Check you statement first to confirm fraudulent activity and would definitely recommend replying. This was all at 2.18am in morning so cannot ring bank and if ignored would allow more transactions until banks open at 9am

Westpac owns St George. They're usually linked. If you have an account with one you get stuff from both.

This is definitely genuine and not a scam. I received a message like this from Westpac and I called back and gave all my personal details to assist in resolving the matter. Within a week my hair had grown 5 inches, I could bench 240 for 10 reps and I could play the violin!
Within a month I was chairman of the Scottish Water Board, and had collected 1307 bags of Cheetos.
Thank you St George for looking out for me.

It would take a very smart scammer to match up my credit card number (last 4 digits) with my mobile phone number. I called Westpac and it was a genuine message about fraudulent activity on my credit card.

This definitely was a message from Westpac, I received 2 in a week.
I thought the text message was a scan but rang St George Bank and told me they blocked my card because the site I was on there was a problem but I was paying
a bill through paypal.
Then yesterday received another text this time Monday night I withdraw money from Westpac ATM and there was a scammer device on it and got me details.

So if you do receive a text ring your bank immediately and organise new card.

Yeah guys its not a scam. I sent a reply text with a bit of abuse and actually got a phone call back almost immediately on a Sunday night..
It was super suspicious and the person refused to give up any information about themselves other than their first name.

They did however say on the phone call that I should dial the number on the back of my bank card, which I thought was a weird thing for a scammer to tell me to do ... I did that.. I actually did have a block on my account..

I feel so bad for abusing this person who called me from the fraud prevention team because I read all these comments who say it's a scam.

Guys, it's legit. Just call your bank..

(btw st george are owned by westpac)

Legitimate text (but don't let that stop you from calling the bank). An apparent fraudulent transaction attempt and the text itself originated from Westpac. Wife called them and they are going to issue new cards. Not sure why a credit card transaction would be honoured without the CVV. As with other replies, don't be lazy, don't trust texts, call the bank and sort it out!

Early this morning, I rec'd a text from this number mentioned that my card had some fraud transactions. Tks for that, BUT WHY ASKING ME TO REPLY as it will be very critical to rely a number that you never heard of?????????
So I call up Westpac Credit Card to identify this, and it is genuine. If nowadays, so many tricks and frauds, why the team wants me to state whether the transactions are suspicious by sending back a "YES" OR "NO" to a mobile number that I do not know.
Sorry this is NOT A SAFE WAY TO DO IT.

this number is the number from the westpac fraud management. It is fully real and definitely needs to be taken seriously. If you had the mind to google this, call the westpac team as soon as possible. The number is real but I doubt anyone would be stupid enough to fall for that. westpac really should put a better name on their fraud management tho. I thought that the SMS was a fraud at first since it was a mobile number

This ended up being a legitimate call. However, it is better to call your bank directly through their own phone number.

My bank blocked the transaction, but I could have lost money if i didn't follow up. Be careful.
