Caller: Text message Yes, it is a scam. It told me there was a 2 cent transaction on my card and asked me to reply if it was wrong. I didn't reply, because this is not how Westpac operates. I checked my Westpac card account and there was no such transaction. Judging from the number of messages here insisting that this is not a scam, obviously the scammers are posting messages. To find out whether they're right or I'm right, do the obvious -- Check your account or check with the bank before responding to anonymous messages.

Caller: St George Frauds Department This is NOT a fraud! We just got scammed with St George and when I was talking to their frauds department, questioning this text message they confirmed it is legitimate. The usual scammer process is to try and charge your credit card with a $0.00 amount from a random online company, and if you don't report it to your bank they will try again in a few weeks but for a MUCH larger amount. So yes, it is St George Bank, and yes, do respond "NO" to the text message if the transaction the query doesn't look right.

Caller: 0429 933 739 27th June 2023 DONT IGNORE THIS . IT LOOKS LIKE A SCAM BUT ITS NOT! Message from Westpac Alert to say my card was temporary blocked because of an attempted transaction byDepor Village for $318.86 on my card ending in the 4 numbers of my actual card. Respond Yes if I made the transaction and No if I didn’t and Westpac would contact me. I thought it WAS a Scam and checked my account online and no such transactions were showing as pending so this strengthened my thoughts of a scam but then went shopping and sure enough my card didn’t work. I’ve just come home and contacted Westpac card services to find out it is legitimate although the whole text looks otherwise. My card has now been cancelled and replacement ordered . A complete pain because I need to wait another week for the new card to come.

Did a credit card transaction around midnight with my St George credit card, then got an SMS from this number. It showed the transaction amount and name of store, and said to reply "No" if I believed the transaction was fraudulent.

I received a text from this number saying they are St George Bank agent informing me about a suspicious transaction in my card, checked the transactions in my card & it was there exactly as describe . So I replied No for not recognising this transaction. I phoned St George Bank number 133330 and they confirmed that the text is legit so they will replace our card and they will request a refund from the merchant .

Caller: St George Bank This is a legit message. Received a late night text asking if a transaction of $40 to a business in India was me. I passed it off as a scam message but then checked my bank account and yes, that amount had been withdrawn. They attempted a few more transactions which thankfully St George flagged as suspicious and blocked. My card has been cancelled and am currently awaiting a new one. So yes, definitely a legit message.

Caller: 0429 933 739 This is 100% a scam! If it was from Westpac, it would say 'Call Westpac on 13xxxx', not 'Call us back on this random number'. It's simple to check - JUST LOOK AT YOUR ACCOUNT. The people here saying 'It's legit' ARE THE SCAMMERS.

Caller: Bank of Melbourne Well, they didn't call - I called the bank first. The text (from 0429 933 739) seemed half-way legit but the very second I replied 'n' in return I figured I might have made a mistake. Came here, enough negative comments to have me concerned.
Called BoM via the bank app, who confirmed that not only had the suspcious purchase in the text been made, but a whole string of similar purchases had also been rung up - circa $1K worth. How the f*ck that happened I don't know but that's a separate story.
Anyways - I wouldn't trust anybody telling me they're calling me from a bank, but if you do get this message I suggest you get in touch with your bank pronto.
