Caller: Westpac I thought this was a scam, however this is a legitimate number used by Westpac to advise of fraudulent transactions. I rang Westpac who confirmed this and have cancelled my card.

Caller: 0429 933 739 This is 100% a scam! If it was from Westpac, it would say 'Call Westpac on 13xxxx', not 'Call us back on this random number'. It's simple to check - JUST LOOK AT YOUR ACCOUNT. The people here saying 'It's legit' ARE THE SCAMMERS.

Caller: Bank of Melbourne Well, they didn't call - I called the bank first. The text (from 0429 933 739) seemed half-way legit but the very second I replied 'n' in return I figured I might have made a mistake. Came here, enough negative comments to have me concerned.
Called BoM via the bank app, who confirmed that not only had the suspcious purchase in the text been made, but a whole string of similar purchases had also been rung up - circa $1K worth. How the f*ck that happened I don't know but that's a separate story.
Anyways - I wouldn't trust anybody telling me they're calling me from a bank, but if you do get this message I suggest you get in touch with your bank pronto.

Caller: Westpac credit car fraud I thought this was suspicious but saw a comment here saying it was legitimate. Nothing was showing on my account online. I called the bank from the number on my statement and it is true. I'm waiting to speak to fraud now and my card has been blocked.

Caller: Text message Got text from St George about transaction I didn’t make. Cancelled my card. Call the OFFICIAL St George Bank number to make sure. They should not ask you for your full card details (ie. card number and CVV/PIN), they already have these on hand- they will tell you to cancel your card and you should immediately do so. Cancelling will automatically mean a replacement is being sent to you. AFTER you have cancelled your card, they will connect you to someone who WILL ask ur cancelled card details (Only the number, no CVV, and some identification questions, i think ok to give as your card has now been cancelled) for details on transactions and fraud investigation

This is genuine. Please don’t ignore it. I wasn’t to sure at first as nothing showed up on my online banking. I did not reply Yes or No, just in case, but rang the number on the back of my credit card. She confirmed right away there had been a suspicious transaction and it had been blocked and that’s why it did not appear on my online statement. If you’re not sure ring your bank. Better safe than sorry.

I received a message saying: Bank of Melbourne Alert: Card ending in **** has been blocked due to an attempted transaction at 'SEARCHRESULT2512801885' for $1.45 at 19:17. If you recognise the transaction, reply 'Yes' to have your card unblocked. Otherwise, reply 'No' to have a Bank of Melbourne agent contact you.
I instantly called my bank, she seemed to think it was a legitimate message and told me I need to call the fraud line which is open between 8am to 4:30pm 1300 301 217.
I would NEVER reply to one of these texts, have been scammed before and it’s a pain in the butt so even if it seems legit ALWAYS CALL YOUR BANK! Worth it just to be sure

Received similar message to those here. I did NOT reply to it, but rang the bank on their (report) fraud number. Still not sure whether the SMS came from a spammer or the bank, but there had been a fraudulent attack (someone had tried to link my card to their account) - which the bank recognised, and they had really cancelled my card immediately. Like many others on this website, I would strongly recommend NOT replying to the text with 'yes' or 'no' (regardless of whether it's genuine or not) and just phone the bank ASAP (even if you have 15 minutes on-hold, as I did). The bank will also be able to explain exactly what happened.

I’m seeing a lot of mixed messages here, I replied and they said I’d get a call from a fraud officer in 60 mins, this is at 18:50. It was a real transaction from Westpac but it’s very suspicious as I’ve had some fraud payments and never got this message before. Doubt I’ll get a call from a ‘fraud officer’ at 8pm.

Caller: text I just received a text, checked my bank and the details were correct. Rang St George customer service, the text is legit. NEVER click on a link, it's the "text yes or no" message from this number. Bank of Melbourne, St George and Westpac all under the same company. Random $70 charge they have to wait til moved from pending to dispute. If they didn't text, I'd never notice

Caller: Westpac Not a fraud. Our Westpac cc have now been cancelled and new ones issued. I called Westpac myself. Don't trust the comments saying it's a fraud. Plenty here confirming it's not. I wouldn't have answered the call though - I called the number on Westpac website. Just call your bank, easier than guessing.

A lot of guesses in the responses here. I received a text, checked my account, responded to the text, called westpac (that is the origin of this text and number). Westpac confirmed the text, the transaction and acknowledged my earlier response. Don’t comment here unless you are certain of your facts.
