Caller: Jen - Optus? (or Chen?)

Received a call - apparently Jen from Optus. I asked to leave me her number and XX would call her back. This completely threw her off from what felt a scripted conversation. She gave me ph: 133937 to call (which may very well be a legitimate number for Optus but it just didn't feel right) and when I asked what the call was about it was a non-confident "re Account health check for XX". Doubt very much this is legitimate, so won't be phoning back.

This number left a voice message of 1 minute and 50 seconds of dead air so I don't know who it was. If it were a genuine caller, I doubt they would leave a dead air voicemail.

With that said, a number of reports on this number claim it's legitimately Optus, and a number of others claim it's a scam. Please protect yourself and be aware that it could be both. Scammers may be spoofing a genuine optus number in order to have you believe it's Optus calling you. Do not provide any information to them. If it's genuinely Optus, they will have other ways of working around this issue.

Just received a call from this number purporting to be from Optus, calling for our valued customers and to let me know that I might be eligible for an upgrade of my handset. I said I wasn't interested and they just hung up, rather than saying anything else. Absolute SCAM caller

Caller: Could be Optus, could be a scammer.

It is possible that Optus's marketing team have decided to use techniques that scammers use to increase there market reach.
Scammers will often try to get you to confirm your identification and then send you a one-time pin. This technique is used regularly to obtained additional details of a possible target and to reset/re-assign account passwords or phone numbers (stealing phone numbers through e-sims etc). The one-time pin could be associated with accounts such as your bank, google account, or even your phone number. If you get sent a one-time pin it should be from a legitimate company that you have contacted and not one that has contacted you. Never give it to someone over the phone or internet as they can use it to reset your password or log into your account.

Optus, being a large Australian based telecommunications company, are likely to be based in Australia with a really good line quality. If you don't feel that the person on the other end of the line is in Australia or the line quality is really bad then that is also a major red flag.

Lady calling claiming that she worked for optus and was trying to offer me an upgrade to my phone / plan. After I said if I want to do this I will go into a local optus store she was pushing for me to do this over the phone and to provide her details linked to my account. Ended the call

I'm Getty Ng so many unknown numbers. I reject most of them. The ones I do pick up end up being a scam and hang up. And a number that's from a different state that I'm in. No. Decline.

Phone quality is absolutely horrendous for a call centre located in Australia. Wanted to speak with account holder & offer a discount. Couldn’t reach holder & for security purposes couldn’t go any further & offered to call back. You want to talk about security purposes after our information was leaked! I wasn’t willing to hand over my details either.

I couldn't agree more it didn't come up as Optus so I didn't answer it. I don't answer any calls from anybody that comes up as private or just nothing..
