I get these calls, and they ask me to confirm my name, but the birth year they give is my wife's. If I put in my day and month of birth instead, it tells me "I didn't get that" a couple of times and then apologises that it can't continue the call. This time I gave my wife's day and month instead, and it accepted that. It told me I had an overdue amount (which was true -- it stated the right amount) and offered ways to pay it. It had all the right info EXCEPT that it got my and my wife's birthdates mixed around.
Hypothesis: it IS legitimate, but it's not Telstra, not exactly. More likely it's a collection agency masquerading as Telstra with the full approval of Telstra, but some of its data is wrong which is why it got confused about birthdates. It might even be the credit management department inside Telstra, but that doesn't explain why their information is wrong. Is Telstra really so incompetent that they can't keep track of birthdates inside their own computer system?

Caller: Telstra Seriously - I don't know why people think this is a scam - it is Telstra. Annoying? Yes! A robot? Yes! A scam? No! Just Telstra trying to get the money you owe on your late bill. I have paid my bill many times through this annoying robot call and the money has always been paid to my account (and no extra money taken from my account). Scammers take your money, and don't pay your bills (unless they are taking even more from you).

This is a fraudulent call. Claiming the phone bill is overdue when it’s not, asking for urgent payment. Suggested the call was about an unscheduled service interruption. They tricked us into entering date of birth, they knew year of birth. Don’t give out information to these people.

Caller: Scam Purports to be Telstra but with wrong name included in the recorded message and the fact that we don't or have never had Telstra - they want you to press 1 so then you get connected to the scammer. If you call the number back it also asks you to press 1. That itself is the scam, by pressing 1 it connects you to the scammer, saves them having to ring you themselves.

Caller: Telstra I don't know why some people here think this is a scam. It IS Telstra. You won't find the number on their website as it comes from a call centre but it is a reminder to pay your overdue bill. I wouldn't enter any data in via their call though. Either contact them directly or login online and pay the bill (as I have just done).

No message left on my mobile. Just a missed call with this number. As I have been receiving calls which are definitely scams, I am not going to call this one back. Interestingly enough, I am on the do not call list. 😆

Caller: Telstra I am well versed in these scams and spoofed numbers (scambaiter) but to my suprise this was actually a bill reminder. STILL, dont give details and always call back on the usual no. Usually those numbers are indeed spoofed. They auto quoted my date of birth so I got a suspicion that it was real, hung up and paid my overdue bill without giving any info. Problem is the out sourced people you speak to are all in scam ridden areas of the world and may even scam in their spare time for all we know. Stay safe.
