Said they were from Citibank Credit Card Centre and there was suspicious activity on my wife's credit card. Tried to call them back and message returned "Number is not connected" It's legitimate. Card security querying an unauthorized overseas transaction. Most likely a SCAM.
Received a missed call from this number claiming to be from Citibank regarding a security concern. I tried calling back (which wasn't a smart move) and number was engaged. I then called the actual Citibank number on the back of my card and spoke with customer service who checked my account and said there was no record of me having been contacted earlier by Citibank. He also said security alerts are generally sent by SMS and to never give out personal info to anyone claiming to be Citibank over the phone (common sense but sometimes we get caught up and forget).
I have a feeling the comments on here claiming that this number is legitimate is left by the scammers themselves.
Said they were from Citibank Credit card and needed the 3 digit number on back of card. I was busy and said I'd call back to tell them to stop scamming but "number not connected". I received a call from this number on both my mobile and landline and a text message on my mobile. I didn't answer either but called Citibank on their public number to enquire. It is a legitimate Citbank number (credit dad fraud section). They called to report three fraudulent transactions on my credit card but I had already seen them and reported them to Citibank who had already tagged them as suspicious. Well done Citibank but it's just sad that we are all so suspicious of any phone calls now. I got a call from this number. I had applied for a Qantas credit card which Citibank is the issuer of. The caller knew the details I had posted on my application and didn't ask for any personal information. She just wanted to follow up on some information I had provided and I got a text from Qantas 5 minutes afterwards advising my credit card application was successful. virgin money because I submitted an CC application claimed they were from the Bank of QLD. I spent ages trying to connect but no answer. I spent hours checking my accounts and yet all is in order. I am very nervous about their suspect behaviour. Caller: They claimed Diners card
I got a call from this number today claiming to be diners club. I’ve never had a diners club card. Scammer.
Left a voicemail saying they were from Diners card security and called in regards to some suspicious activity on my account. I never had a Diners card in the first place. it is a legitimate call from Citibank. spam they call all hours of the night. just had a call at 9pm at night Caller: Unknown
First said it was Coles Mastercard then called back and it said Citibank?!?!?!?!
Legit. Applied for credit card - virgin. They cannot leave messages etc due to privacy information. Rang back , operater was able to give me the info and what was missing from my application which was correct Caller: citibank/suncorp
its dodgy - I called my bank and no activity
Received a call on my mobile, and then immediately after on my work landline saying my credit card had a fraudulent transaction. I called back on 1300 550 216. I spoke to a person with a muffled but otherwise clear voice, and call centre background noise. He asked for my credit card details so he could clarify the nature of the fraud. I refused to give any information. I called my bank and they verified that the calls WERE NOT FROM THEM. This is a scam call.
Legitimate Call. They are a section of CitiBank that deal with the processing of applications for Qantas Money Credit Cards and other flavours that are backed by CitiBank. Caller: Card Services
Legitimate. Called Citibank directly & they said Citibank security had called me due to the security of my credit card had been compromised. They locked the account & sent me a new card
Caller: Fraud investigations
These calls are legitimate.
There is fraud analytics reviewing all transactions for suspicious behaviour, this is called modelling.
Sometimes a company's data can be compromised causing a breach (think Apple or Netflix and the amount of Credit Card information they would have stored in their database and imagine that got hacked). It is a legal requirement for the company that has had the data leak to advise the relevant authorities or governing bodies within 24hrs of them becoming aware. That info is provided to the Financial Institutions (FI's); ie CBA, NAB, ANZ etc...
Massive penalties are imposed if they're a data breach's that could have been avoided if these companies followed the security recommendations that are made by the FI's
