Received a call on my work number. Thought it must have been a supplier but the delay when I answered gave them away. Saw previous comments about this number. Now they're blocked - the blocked list is becoming very long.

This scam is still operational as at October 30.
You'd think the ATO or the AFP would be able to shut it down by now? Evidently not.

Had the same hoax call but called back to give them a serve and let the phone just sit and stuff them up calling others but a phone answering message said it was the ATO and that they were currently closed. Call back during office hours. Don't get caught by this. It is a very realistic reply but it is still a scam.

I had a missed call from this number. I Googled it and found this page, so unlocked the number.
A few hours later I had another call with No Caller ID. I didn’t speak when I answered,but it was an automated message saying it was from the ATO. I just hung up. Wish there was a way to block the No Caller ID.. why should they enjoy the privacy and not us.

Don't be fooled, the Tax department will never call like this, its definitely a scam and you should just hang up or don't answer if you have caller I.D. I've had 4 calls in 2 days to work mobile with a private number. Caller is the same as other comments here, I just hung up then didn't answer when the same number came up. Just get sick of these type of calls trying to rip people off. Why cant someone (Government?) do something to stop this kind of thing happening?

FRAUD ATO CALL - Someone needs to look into this and get it sorted. People cant be threatened to be arrested and charged. What if the person is vulnerable and gets scared and ends up doing as the caller says. Why isn't ATO or the Australian Telco barring these calls. This is harassment to all the tax payers/citizens.

Terrible fake ATO scam. Doesn't even seem remotely legitimate

Earlier this week i received a call from a different number (02) 6172 0551) and this was a robocall saying that it was the ATO and that they had file against my name. The automated voice said if i didn't call back immediately as soon as i'd got the message, they would issue an arrest warrant against me.
Now i'm getting calls from (02) 6216 1111) yesterday and today. I haven't answered because i didn't recognise the number. I googled it and discovered all these complaints about this number.

Caller: A robot wishing it was an ATO employee

Got a call today from this number, answered it, the really long pause and finally the jokingly sound of a robot voice stating they were from the ATO is what did it for me. Hung up straight away to bother listening to the rest of the message, not the first of these calls I’ve had so many but a first from the ATO, googled this number and landed here, thanks guys👍🏽

How do they get your number in the first place...? It was a recorded message saying final demand from the Tax Office - I just hung up as I knew it was a hoax and have blocked the call - annoying though..

Yet again "ATO" telling me there was an arrest warrant out for me and i would only have 45 minutes to clear it.
Hung up on them an rang the real ATO and they said they would not call only contact via post

just got a call from them saying i was a tax fraud and i was going to be arrested .... i dont earn enough to pay tax and im on a pension .. i told them dont worry about going any further i will call the tax department myself to find out ... then they hung up ... i said its a scam

Digitally masked voice requesting that I have a final warning from the ATO that I will be arrested if I don’t pay a debt. When I said I don’t owe anything, he quickly hung up.

Got a call yesterday whilst shopping recorded male voice from the Ato informing me of owing a debt and tax evasion to press 1 to talk to a consultant. I did press 1 but line was busy was on hold. Suspicious I hung up and called the number again and it went to actual Ato phone line? Weird googled number saw many complaints about number. What is government ato doing about this scam using a government number?
