I got a call from these people despite the fact we are on the no call list and the conversation went like this.

HIM
"Hello Sir it's Thomas from DBM Consulting how are you this evening? I just want to assure you we're not selling anything, we run surveys and I was hoping to ask you a few questions.

Can I start by asking if you are employed?"

ME
Sure, I'm actually happy to answer your questions, but before I do I have a couple of my own. Could you tell me where you are from again, I didn't catch it the first time?

HIM
DBM Consulting, we're a company that conducts surveys and we've been asked to undertake a census in your area. We aren't trying to sell you anything.

ME
Yup, great. So once you gather this information what do you do with it?

HIM
We compile the information. Could I ask you whether you are employed?

ME
So after you've compiled it what do you do with it?

HIM
We don't do anything with it.

ME
You don't do anything with it? Nothing at all? The company you work for spends money to hire people like you to ring people like me, an exercise that presumably takes hour...they collect and collate the data into some sort of meaningful report, but at the end of it you all just stand around in a circle-jerk or pat each other on the back about what a wonderful job you did getting all that information together? The information you're going to do nothing with?

HIM
We recieve requests from agencies to collate data for them.

ME
So you sell it to them.

HIM
No government agencies make the request.

ME
So you sell it to the government?

At which point he hung up on me.

I don't mind helping these poeple, but if I get BS, I give it. Pitty the fool who rings me from there again.

Call hung up when I answered. When I called back I got a recording saying that it was a market research company that hadn't been able to reach me ( I answered!) and that they weren't trying to sell me anything .This is on a new mobile that's only been activated a week ? Seems dodgy!!

This number belongs to DBM Consultants, based in Melbourne.

They are a legitimate market research company, and will often call using their clients name (Telstra, Westpac etc.) for brand-image reasons.

They are not scammers, they will not ask for your personal information that could lead to identity-fraud. Give the number a call. If you still don't believe it, give your bank or whoever they claimed to be a call and they will verify it for you.

I rang the number Simone suggested. They disconnected the call straight away and promptly rang me back. The lady was polite (and an Aussie accent which us a bonus) and asked why I called, I explained I wanted to be taken off the list and she was nice as pie and said no problems. Please remember that is may be an annoyance to you, but this is an Aussie call centre with people just doing a job so they can feed their family/make a life for themselves. I'm pleased they employ Australians instead of outsourcing jobs to overseas.

Call the number (03) 8809 5333 and get put through to a supervisor, provide them with the number you have been getting the calls on and request to be taken off the list.

I simply blocked the number on my phone. iPhone has that feature to block all future calls from the number.
I don't even bother answering my home number anymore. It's only ever marketing calls. Yet I have a private number. It's only used for occassional outbound calls now. Shame it has to come to that.

I keep getting their damn calls. I picked up once and they were rude, so I hung up. I get calls from them at 10PM! That's pushing it bad!

Rings twice and hangs up. Getting at least two calls a day lately - I note the number and don't answer after reading previous comment. I thought they would get the message by now.

I found this site useful as this has identified this number (03) 8862 7400 as one from annoying telemarketers (DBM Consulting). I have now blocked them from my iphone. I have no interest in having a discussion with someone who wants me to complete a survey. My personal business is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS.
As a general rule I don't answer calls when I don't recognise the number. I let it go to message bank and call people back when it is legitimately of interest to me. I suggest you do that to.

I have been receiving several calls daily from DBM consultants.
Their webpage gives the email address of their "Director of Operations":

I sent an email to him on wjones @ dbmcons.com.au asking for my mobile number to be removed from their database,

If they were legit they would use the do not call register and stop phoning those of us that are on it. Duly reported the MAGGOTS, make sure you register your numberS and then report any telemarketing tosspot on https://www.donotcall.gov.au/consumers/lodge-a-complaint/

Caller: Westpac Customer Survey on (03) 8862 7400

I have actually missed the calls (3 in the last 2 days), but would not have answered anyway, because Westpac have no reason to be calling me! I will block these calls now.
