I answered and put the phone on loud speaker so my hubby and adult son could hear. I did not say hello but just waited. Then after 30 seconds of silence where I could still hear someone was there I said, ‘don’t you think you should say hello first’. The guy rudely said ‘no I don’t think it works that way’. So I said ‘I do! And I’m not interested!’ It doesn’t matter how many times I block them, they just call on a different Mum So...so rude!!

I have continual missed calls from this number despite telling them I'm not interested. Might have to quote some of the clever responses I've just read - maybe ask them why they want my private information for, when this is a private line and they shouldn't be calling me?

I don't call back if they don't leave a message, instead i block them. Anyone who thinks an Aussie accent means they're in Aust is very naive. Overseas call centres train their operators to speak with whatever accent matches the country they are calling. If calling Australian numbers they'll speak with an Aussie accent & even have the latest Aust weather up so they can pretend they're in an Australian city.

We gave up answering all landline calls some time ago due to repeated unwanted, unsolicited and/or scam callers (the scam calls invariably came from Indian "call centres", trying to obtain access to our computer, with the intention of ripping off good, decent, hard working Australians of their hard earned money by telling them they're from Microsoft - who never contact). Although this DBM mob don't seem to be anything other than irritating market research seeking an hour of your valuable time - especially on a weekend to elicit personal details. About three weeks ago, I had no less than 16 or 17 calls from these serial pests within a two hour time frame - all on a Saturday or Sunday.
My best advice is to not answer landline calls, wait a while before going to the phone to obtain their origin by hitting *10#. Friends and family will contact you via mobile if you let them know you no longer answer a landline. Presumably DBM stands for 'Dumb Bloody Morons'. Good luck to you all in trying to enjoy a weekend without these unnecessary irritations.

These grubs are still going around received a second call today from (03) 8862 7400 after not answering last week they said they are from DBM consultants not selling anything but want to know how my insurance is going. I said how did you get this number they said it was randomly generated. I said that's funny was it randomly generated twice as you called last week. Then I proceeded to say I was on the Do Not Call Register and his reply was we don't have to abide by that because we don't sell anything. So then I hit him with yeah is that right well have you heard of the Privacy Act he had nothing to say and I just hung up after silence.

Check this number (03) 8862 7400 on google first result reverse Australia with 100s of scam complaints.

Whatever you do don't give up your private information to these scammers.

Caller: DBM (Serial Pests!).

Quite some time ago, I stopped answering ALL landline calls as they were inevitably rip-off calls from dubious Indian call centres regarding computer "malfunctions". As anyone with 2 functioning neurons would realize, they were scams. Since those calls eventually ceased, I have been bombarded (up to 16 or 17 calls per day - no exaggeration!) with these idiots from 'market research'. My advice is to leave the landline ring until it stops - as anyone, friends or family will call on my mobile. Besides, WHO would bother trying to get someone (with a life) at home on a Saturday night?

For your line phone there is a simple and effective solution. You can by a "PRO CALL BLOCKER" from Ebay for just over $20.00.As soon as you receive a pest call, press the red button and that caller will be blocked from future calls. The Blocker can hold 1500 call numbers.

Caller: Claimed research.

Do NOT answer questions from numbers like this. They may claim to be doing marketing research or solar rebates etc but it is a fishing scam. They gather details on you and sell them to other companies. They corroborate this data with Facebook profiles, yellow pages etc to form a complete profile on you.

This is used to break into accounts etc. You would be surprised how little data they need to invade even the most protected of your accounts. Remember genuine marketing companies wouldn't gather data this way. It is too costly and inefficient to individually call thousands of people simply for data. They can simply use site cookies, pay for your "private" Facebook data etc if that was genuinely what they wanted. What they do want is details you haven't publically provided such as work details etc to determine your likely income, age etc. (whether you're worth stealing from)

Even simply giving your age is a stepping stone to figuring out your date of birth as it helps narrow the search area down when running hacking programs etc. Furthermore, don't give money to charities over the phone. You don't know whos calling so just don't do it. Block the number or request action for violation of Do Not Call register laws etc. Despite the law explicitly stating they must not call you if you request it or sign up to the Do Not Call register, they will ignore it. Truly genuine companies will not violate this law. As if that isn't proof enough this is a scam.

What happened to the message from a supposed employee who called us names because we objected? Deleted? By whom?
D.B.M. should be ashamed about him/her and their company.
They said they were a student earning part time money with D.B. M consultants.
If they or the company got sick of all the other telemarketers calling them at their own home, they would know why there have been so many objections on this web site for 7 years this month.
Whats it going to take to stop them invading our private space?
