I think they use internet sites like online tool-stores, Seek or Gumtree to harvest mobile numbers, because I rarely use my mobile phone and have never physically given out my mobile number to anyone but immediate family. I have owned my little used mobile phone for nine years and never received calls from this number until recently. I noticed however that I started getting the calls from this number after spending time on the internet looking for jobs, looking at tool catalogues and filling out some forms online for jobs and tool specials.

I am in the same position as "L" ; a little used mobile, which is listed however - I keep receiving, and missing, this number - when I return the call (no message is ever left), there is no answer. I will have to block the number.

I'm with you on that Jane. I'm on a low income and every penny counts. I have a prepaid Telstra mobile on an old plan that I will never give up where $10 not spent this month carries over to next month. Almost all of my incoming calls are from unidentified numbers. Their surveys and other annoyances were costing me money every month, particularly those that ring and hangup before you get the chance to answer so you have to pay for the call. (That is deceptive, if not criminal fraud). I don't ring any number back until I Google the number and know who;s calling. The genuine callers, and I, have to suffer the consequences of their deception.

This number (03) 8789 4488) a real pest. They have rung me 4 times in 2 days. The Do NOT Call Register is nothing more that the result of Politicians doing nothing yet appearing to be doing something. I would be interested to know if just one prosecution has taken place as a result of this register.
Does anyone know of a gadget that with give off such a noise as to deafen these people. As for me, I have been asking our politicians to stop this, but they don't. I see little choice left but to do something myself.
Call blockers are quite effective for now, but leeches seldom give up for long, so I guess others have to discourage them.

Ring Telstra on 1800 805 996 (provided you are a Telstra customer) and they will happily block (03) 8789 4488 (or any other number that is behaving in a similar manner) and you will never get another call from that number.

Cheers

Polite Aussie guy said they're doing market research about people's attitudes to travel and flying. I told him I would prefer to give feedback direct to the airline that I travelled with - then I hung up :P

Everyday at dinner time sometimes twice a day." If any call is important they'll call back, if I don't recognise the number I let it ring out, I own the phone, the phone doesn't own me.!"

Just had a missed call from this number and they left a voice mail, but with no message, just background noise. I mean, really? I'm not going to call you back if you're going to act stupid like that. You're giving a bad impression of the company you work for

Call to my from this number (03) 8789 4488) this afternoon. They claimed to be from a market research company conducting research on behalf of a bank. Asked to speak with my son. They had his full name. My son has multiple disabilities and is not able to speak on the phone. When I said this they put me through to someone else whose phone eventually went to message. I asked for someone to call me back ASAP and tell me what was going on. The person called me back almost straight away but was not connected with (03) 8789 4488 and was mystified by the whole thing. I'd like to know how they got my son's full name when he's never held a phone account of any description - not landline not mobile, nothing!

Just buy an airhorn from cheap as chips and blast it into your phone when they ring. Soon stops them from ringing. I consider them scam artists as they ring unsolicited like the indian telemarketers that got the info of pensioners in this country. The banks in this country should stop employing overseas call centres to do a job that an Aussie could do while making a contribution to the country with the tax that they pay.

TKW Research. Called me conducting legitimate market research for Westpac (on behalf of our Westpac Business Banking Relationship Manager). Not a scam.

This company The Knowledge Warehouse Pty. Ltd. uses this phone number to harass the australian public. If you have a complaint about the number ending in 4488 then just call 8888 instead to finally expose this company for what they really are.
