As above. Scam. I rang him back to have a little fun with him and came up with a fake name and address but he didn't answer. Wanted to stir him up a little bit. Can't stand people like this and know that my grandparents would most likely have been quite intimidated by a person like this calling them.

Scam artist calling claiming I needed to get a Loyer to ring them regarding ATO infringement. Don't not answer or call!

Strange. possibly a scam. Left a voicemail from Canberra, requesting call back asap.

Basically identical to the other reports listed here - message purportedly from "Matthew Clarke" from the ATO.

(02) 6172 1017 Number is also used. Same story Matthew Clarke from the ATO (such an Aussie name for such a strong Indian accent) reported the number to both Offical ATO and Police

Same experience here Scam all the way. Carefull its pretty well done as he doesnt ask for money straight away and challenged me to call ATO to check his ID

Called saying it was Officer Matthew Clark from the ATO and that a law suit wS filed against me. I was to return the call or have my lawyer return the call.

I had a call from him this morning. First I answered went to a voice mail saying this is officer Steven Casey calling from the ATO office, dont disregard this call there has been a lawsuit made against me by the ATO & to call back immediately then leaving his extension. I called this number back, showed as Australian Capital Teritory, got him on he had an answer fit everything, said Is been audited, showed fraud in my return for 2014/15, that they had tried to contact me, that now it's in court today & the federal police will arrive with a warrant for my arrest & id be held for 72 hours until all sorted. Amount of $5788 was fraud amount, provides case number. Said nothing I can do now.. then strangelywanted me to stay on the phone for 45 minutes & that it's time sensitive & we would know more shortly. Said call was being recorded & asked me to answer a question honestly, if I had intentionally done fraud etc.

So cunning! Seriously so dodgy! I reports to the true ATO office today. They have had several scams reported to them. I provided this number. Let's hope he gets caught!

Apparently it is a tax scam. Someone claiming to be from the Australian Taxation Office. DO NOT give out your personal details - hang up!

Message left on my voicemail, sounds robotic. Someone called Matthew Clarke supposedly an officer from the ATO wants me to call back about a lawsuit.

Scam...block the caller!!
