Some garbled message supposedly from the ATO wanting me to contact the number

This is a SCAM! THIS IN NOT THE ATO!!! They steal your personal information. Please be aware.

Had this scam message on our answering machine asking for a return phone call to this number. It went like this: "Hello, my name is Andrew Watson and I am calling from the Australian Tax Office representing the CDPP, that is the Commonwealth Directors of the Public and Prosecutions here at Canberra. There is a legal lawsuit filed under your name by the ATO and the CDPP for a case of tax evasion and _______ ________ (garbled). I need you or your _______ attorney to get back to us immediately on (02) 6152 8618. Again, this is Andrew Watson from the Legal Department. I want you or your _______ attorney to call us back on (02) 6152 8618. Goodbye."

Message on my answering machine:
".... your name by ATO CDPT for a case of tax evasion and **** fraud. I need you or your legal attorney to get back to us immediately on (02) 6152 8618.
Again, this is ******* Watson from the Legal Department. I want you or your ***** Attorney to ring back on (02) 6152 8618. Good bye. “
I did not ring because it's a scam. I checked the number on this website and found all your complaints. Thank you.
I reported it to the Federal Gov SCAMWATCH

Same message as above, but the name was Andrew Watkins! Be careful people.

unfortunately my elderly father was a recent victim of these scumbags losing over $40,000. Police cant do anything

Jason O'connor rang at 1.50pm 11/11/15 Wilson, Perth Western Australia.left same message.. For info of all you kind people out there. Left return contact of (02) 6152 8631..

listening to my phone messages and received the Jason O'Connor version of the above tax evasion message with threat of police arrest. It was meant to be an automatic message which was definitely anything but automatic.

I have just returned from overseas and found this message on my answering machine. This is the third time it has happened to me in 3 months. I want to know who exactly do you complain to about these creeps

Had the same call from a Jason O'Connor so grateful I could check the number on this site and see all the comments Just hope no one else gets scammed and hope the police can do something about it!

unfortunately i didn't know about this scam, i rang the number back and a guy told me to ring the next day at 9:am. fortunately i am a pensioner and i have nothing for them to steal from me. i don't think i will bother to ring back tomorrow, now i have read your posts, thank you for posting.

A "Admiral' Andrew Watkins left detailed message on my answering machine, similar to above. We need to be vigilant and warn our family and friends of this scam.

Similar message to those above - a generic recorded message supposedly from a Andrew Watkins of the ATO legal department didn't address me by my Name, asking me or my legal representative to contact him ASP in relation to a supposed case of tax avoidance.

I am a bad man. I am a tax evader. Had to receive a call from these tools to re-affirm it.

Same experience as above. Call on Canberra private number threatening police action about tax file matter leading to arrest (I do so hope this was prophetic for the cold caller)/ He identified himself as Jason Quan and gave his number for a return call about the tax matter as (02) 6152 8618. Will report to Tax office scam number next week as well.

I have had two calls in two days from these people. Firstly Officer Johnson say that there is a law suit from the CDPP and an arrest warrant for tax evasion and Centrelink fraud. Second call from Andrew Watson from the ATO saying I am a tax evader and the Police are on the way to my place with a warrant for my arrest and I need to call this number back. I have also received a letter from my accountant warning me of the scum.

I just had a phone scam happening with this number they told me I owed the tax department money and the police would be around in 45 minutes to arrest me.why do people do this sort of thing I am 64 years old and this is very scary for someone of my age. Why do you do this to people

Had a call from a client (we are accountants) who was called by these scammers who used words like "from ATO legal department" and "investigating tax evaders".Would love it if the police could stop these guys upsetting people!
