Received a call from this nbr, they left a V'mail message, said their were from the ATO. I called back, some Indian guy answered said he was Officer Robbie King from the ATO .. and that I was being investigated for fraud .. SCAM bells rang out & I told them so & told them I was calling the real ATO to confirm. I then called the actual ATO and they confirmed that they did not call me.... and hr later, I called (02) 6140 3470 twice, spoke to some Indian guy, gave them a piece of my mind .. I wanted then to feel what it was like getting a phone call you didn't want to have .. the guy then said "You bitch, don't call this nbr again" .... I rang back 20 mins later & the phone just rang out ... I think they learnt their lesson ...

Some more info .. the original caller who left a message on my answering machine was named Peter Williams, with a strong UK accent (pommie) .. I called this nbr a few mins ago, asking for Peter Williams, got some Indian guy with a strong Indian accent, who said he was Peter Williams .... when I said "No you are not, the Peter Williams who left a message had a UK accent" ... he hung up.

SCAM - I received a message from (02) 6140 3470 last Fruday and was too busy to deal with it. I figured it was a Scam, when he threatened Legal Action from the ATO (Australian Tax Office) and to return his call, as the information was extremely time sensitive. He has an Indian accent, but I doubt he is a "New Australian" more likely an overseas call centre.

Thankfully I have read all these helpful and timely messages from others today.

I recorded his phone message last Friday, I now ring that number every hour and I play his message - back to him. He keeps hanging up !

The same recorded message in a UK accent was received on 9 October (twice) but no name was provided. So they are still active. At this point I'm not bothering to ring back.

Same for me, he threatened me with jail, would not give me his name, said he was from the ATO in Canberra and I had to go to court in NSW, I live in Vic. Became very aggressive when my son spoke to him and then hung up. I have reported the number to the ATO. I can't imagine how the elderly feel when they get these calls as I felt sick being threatened even though I knew it was a scam.

I am 66 today, a retired single woman. Imagine my terror when I got this message. Frantic calls to the ATO were not answered due to "being overloaded". I did think it was strange that I had not had any previous calls or written communication about this from the ATO. I believe that my response to the, appro 3 calls a day I get from Call Centres in India, telling me they are Fred Blogs from Telstra and they want to help me with reducing my account, even though I don't deal with Telstra, has made them mad hence the retribution. Knobheads!

Just returned from Europe (11pm), having spent almost 2 hours getting through the congestion at the airport and I have received 2 messages from a person by the name of Chase O conner from the ATO (02) 6140 3436 & (02) 6140 3470) on my voice mail stating I was about to be arrested for Tax Evasion and fraud with the matter about to be heard in Court. Clearly this must be a scam and I cannot why the Authorities allow this sort of activity to occur. It is totally disgusting.

September 2015 and these pr...ks are still going strong, complaints to Telstra are met with the usual bullsh*t and no action. What does one have to do to get rid of these bastards?

The scam is still going. I have had at least one call from this number with the 'tax evasion/fraud' message every day for the last few weeks!!

We got our call on the 18 September 2015. The guy announced himself as Jeffrey Morgan. He stated the we are being investigated for tax evasion and fraud and that we MUST call (02) 6140 3470 ASAP as the case has already be handed to the Australian Commonwealth Court. If we don't call back we will go to jail.
Ha ha ha ha what a joke!!!

Received a message today from Jeffrey Morgan (weird American accent) said he was from the ATO and I had legal proceedings against me for tax evasion and fraud so I had to call back urgently. So I did on (02) 6140 3470. I said my name was Ronald McDonald and gave them a phone number to the local McDonalds store. The guy then spoke to somebody next to him in an Indian dialect, came back on the phone and said they had my file. He read a script and apparently I owed $7,725 ( I was not allowed to interrupt when they read the script) and would be going to court. Then they asked if I was prepared to pay the money, would not accept credit or debit cards so therefore did I have cash to pay. I said the banks were closed so he transferred me to the 'Senior Investigations Officer' who told me I would be arrested in the next hour and would be going to court tomorrow, then he hung up!! Strange scam!

A man called Mark Brown (American accent) claimed to be from the ATO claiming a law suit against me and that I should call back and speak to Officer Chris Jordan. Ha, as if...do they think we are stupid?! Clearly a hoax. I'm not wasting my time. They make an idle threat if I don't call back. Ha, as if! A very generic message was left that never used my name nor anything that indicated they were actually wanting 'me'. A genuine situation like this would not be relayed by phone, nor left on a message bank, but rather mail. Take no notice. Not sure what they are after though...? Perhaps your TFN? - be careful!

I have had two of these calls and ignored both but do these on line phone checks for peace of mind - thanks everyone who posts. Considering having my police and legal friends ring the numbers back!!!

Had the same recorded message from Peter Williams. South African or British accent. Contact them urgently on this number before a court action is commenced against me...

Same as above, when I rang back the voice said the call could not be connected. I think they might realise now that we are not all stupid.

Ditto all the above...came home to a message about taking me to court -Indian accent rang alarm bells. So glad I found this message board - agree that the Govt or some department gets of their fat ass backsides and fixes this!!! Totally feel sorry for any oldies who may be duped. Be aware!!

Yes, Same, be on the lookout for either Kevin Mathews or Peter Williams. The guy with a south african accent left two messages, one as Kevin, and then one as Peter, both messages contained the exact scripted message as above.
