Today at 9.08am I had a message on the answering machine from a Peter Williams from ATO, the accent did not match the name, the message "please ring quickly (02) 6140 3740 to avoid court proceedings on unpaid tax/returns

Same message left on my phone. Thank goodness for the internet & these posts.

Received a call on the answering machine last night from 'the office of Peter Williams of the ATO', claiming that "they have idendified some error in (my) tax obligation and are on the way to submitting a formal petition against my name and before it gets to the Commonwealth Courthouse of the old territory, please call their hotline number (02) 6140 3470), so that they can assist". I then called the official ATO (13 28 69) to report this and they said to ignore as it's a scam.

I Got a call from Peter Williams (02) 6140 3470 re tax evasion claiming I owe $6000 and will be summoned to appear in court and I should get a criminal lawyer. High time something was done about these people and they are dealt with accordingly. Rather disturbing to get this type of call from people claiming to be from the ATO until I found out from a colleague it was a scam.

Received the same call today from good ol' Peter Williams in the form of a message left on my voicemail, asking me to ring (02) 6140 3470 to avoid ATO taking me to the Federal Court for fraud. I didn't ring back. I thank all who have posted warnings about these fraudsters.

I have the same experience with a message then following on with a phone call with a officer Peter Williams who went on to inform me that I will be arrested for tax fraud and held by the sheriffs department for 72 hours until my hearing. I asked him why I was not notified by mail and he replied that the paperwork kept being returned to sender. I said that my returns get done by an accountant and he replied it's not there fault it's your own. I asked him where I would be able to receive the information so I can have my lawyer look into the case and he kept saying I will be arrested within the hour and jailed. I went on to ask more questions but he hung up me. I hope they find these people and arrest them.

I got the same call 16th June , why can't the Federal Gov. track this group down and charge them not only with fraud but also with impersonating a Fed, dept. as this number looks like a land line and must have a building somewhere

Got two calls today for ATO investigating. Called him back called himself a different name, wouldn't give me my ATO - he is a pain. Should be arrested.

This is beyond creepy, because I was actually just on the mygov website trying to arrange my online tax account. Then got this call on my landline....

WOW ... just refreshed this page as I forgot to close it down .. looks like a few other's got the same calls. PS.. they stopped calling me after my June 9 interaction with them .. I like the comment from Ben who gave them the nbr for the local police .. classic :) ....

Just got the same message as everyone. I feel sorry for the elderly this sort of thing can be really upsetting for them.

Received two messages from Peter Williams yesterday

Had a message left on our phone today, Guy called Peter Williams with scottish accent, also told I was being taken to court for fraud....Will let ATO know tomorrow...I checked ATO website and they had info on these scams!!!

Haha. I rang Officer Williams back today (on my mobile) after I received two phone messages from him saying he was taking me to the federal court. I identified myself as Benjamin Dover and said the message was left on my home phone number. He asked for my home phone number so I gave him the local police number. He paused for a sec and said that he had located my file. I held him on the phone for 15 minutes whilst I organised to pay the $9,900 of come tax I had defrauded them of. Long story short. The last I heard he was going to call the local police and ask for BenDover for the cash. What a pack of a**holes. Idiots. I will keep ringing them with a different story every time.

Got a message from Peter Williams today. Was immediately suspect as he didn't bother saying who exactly he was trying to reach.

Just had the same message on my phone with the South African accented Peter Williams. Sounded suspect so googled his number and came upon this page.

Hello, I had the same Peter Williams leave a message on my answering machine. My husband figured it was a hoax. The person never requested who he was asking for just that we had to ring back the number re: a court order. I typed in the phone number and all the comments said it was a hoax. This is what we thought. Please be aware people, a big scam.
