I've also received a message on my silent landline number this afternoon. Same message as all previous comments. These guys are such idiots, as if any regulatory department would give a person a phone waring that they're going to be arrested???

I got this call today on my Mobile, but the voice was generated, i called the ATO scam hotline 1800 008 540 and they checked if there was anything outstanding, which there wasn't. Said they would pass this onto the AFP.

This is a SCAM. I called ATO to check and it was not them. They took all my details and reported itto the federal police. If you get this call CALL the Australian tax office and let them know

My stepmother received a call that went to her answering machine, saying she was about to be arrested for tax avoidance, and to ring no back. Its a scam. It upset her as she is elderly.

Now before the case is sent for execution and you receive the legal course of notifications please contact the hotline number or ask your lawyer to get in touch with us on (02) 6064 2059, I repeat the number that’s (02) 6064 2059 and we shall be happy to help you. Thank you." ...

I just got this call, couldn't understand most of the message except the part about the warrant for my arrest and the number to call, which did. The person had a strong asian accent and I had trouble understanding him but when I asked who they were he gave a name I coudn't make out and said they were the ATO. I explained about the call I'd had and he asked my name which I gave him, there was a pause and then he came back and said my home address which was correct, and that made me think it was genuine. Then he said he would transfer me to another number and the line went dead. I called back three times with no result so now I'm thinking it was a hoax.scam. I have since checked my message bank again and the original message is no longer there.

Had the same message on my answering machine today. IF I had anything to worry about and IF the tax people were after me, I doubt they'd leave a message to warn me of my impending warrant.
