Had a call from this number yesterday. had fun stinging her along. She tried to claim she had rung my mobile..stupid woman. Had one today. Got so frustrated that I told him to F off and hung up and then he rung back again. Gave the phone to my husband and after this twit asked my husband what his problem was my husband went to town on him and he hung up :)

This is a scammer claiming to be from Telstra and offering to fix my virus plagued computer - yeah right!
Indian voice - Indian call centre? - a lot of background noise.
My advice? Ignore the phone number.

Idiots who just need to be ignored. Hang up immediately. Now have CALLER ID so we know which number is ringing us - don't need to pick up the phone when this number rings.Telstra can do something about this but they need your personal details for an official complaint, and not many people want to do this so Telstra also frustrated.

Four calls from this scam caller today - at least one a day for the last week. Will email the Minister for Communications, emphasizing the large number of people complaining that nothing is done when complaints are lodged.

Only way to stop those Parasites is to buy a V.202 CALL BLOCKER & Call screener , I bought one 2 years ago , this blocker can block 1200 calls $89.99 on Ebay , ( note: caller ID must be activated )
a scammer ring ? Press the red button BINGO !!!, after that they can't never ring you again , got 38 numbers blocked now 1162 to go

I have reported these scammers to Telstra, who are monitoring the line. I am now asking them to confirm the number from which they are calling and finding that they hang up, right? They always end every sentence with "right?"
I agree with other comments that these scammers ought be able to be caught and dealt with by the telecommunications regulators.

Yes told me they were from Telstra and they could see I was having trouble with my computer and would do next Monday !!!! They rang at 9pm and told me they were ringing from WA but their number was 02. Can not understand how the government can not act on this. I remember last year had them ringing up saying they were the tax office and the person was getting done for tax evasion , this would have scared people!! So wrong on every level, we disobey a road rule and we get fined but these people can rob people and nothing happens !!!!

COME ON TELSTRA CUT THIS PHONE NUMBER OFF, YOU DON'T SEEM TO FIND IT HARD TO CUT OFF AGE PENSIONERS THAT ARE A DAY LATE WITH PAYING THEIR BILLS!!!!

They called this 3pm afternoon and again 9pm tonight. Constantly calls throughout the day as overseas but today the number came up first and registered in my phone then went to private/overseas.

Just got another call while writing this at 9:33pm - same number first then goes to private overseas. Same scenario except as soon as he said i am John from Telstra, i said i am calling Telstra tomorrow and some lady spoke Indian they hung up. They all have an Indian accent and some are much harder to understand than others, the lady i had earlier tonight was a lot clearer, the guy this afternoon was not very clear.

THEY ARE NOW CLAIMING AND SAYING TO CONVINCE YOU THAT:

Now they are claiming that your internet will be cut off for 1 month because hackers have accessed your computer and have affected Telstra's server, UNLESS you to go to your computer and they can help you fix it.

They then ask you to press CNTRL windows R together, which opens your RUN Dialog box or command prompt, they ask you enter a command prompt that runs a backdoor onto your computer, NOW they have access to everything, they can WATCH YOU through your webcam, KEY STROKE LOGGING what you are typing on your computer, AND PLACE VIRUS' ON YOUR COMPUTER.

Now if anyone does not know about computers this is how they backdoor to gain access to your computer and any personal information such as banking/passwords or any information they can use to steal your identity etc. A "backdoor" is exactly how it sounds, & what they are doing....someone coming in the "back door" to rob you of anything they can and hoping not to be seen or noticed, but instead of your house its virtual on your computer.

Key stroke logging and Webcam watching is a scary one for me, you dont have to have any bank account details saved on your computer at all and they can still access them. The moment you start entering your bank details to login to you banking, they can trace each button your are pressing and get your information that way.

They can turn your webcam on and watch you at your computer, if your webcam is open to the room or house around they can watch you and your family go about your day to day business. This all goes undetected and you are not even aware that any of this is happening until its too late

So when you say NO i am not doing that i will call Telstra myself........they then go on to say.....i know there there has been many scammers out there...but i can tell you i am a Telstra representative and i can tell you your ID of your computer, if I have the right ID number i can help you and if i dont i have the wrong computer. Hmmmmmm....So do they have my "information" or dont they hahaha......

if you EVER connect to the internet.....all your information is there to be found as well.....so dont trust them either if they say this.....there are many ways in which they can "IDENTIFY YOUR COMPUTER"......but can they very your Telstra account? after-all it is your phone number connected to it so they should be able to verify this.

PREVIOUSLY WERE CLAIMING:

I like to listen to see what scam they are trying to pull this time, previously it has been.......

my computer has created a harmful virus on Telstra's server and has shut it down and they need to help me remove it......"by back dooring onto my computer"....... the moment they said you need to press CNTRL then..... i knew where it was heading....good thing i am basically a computer tech and said....AAAHHH NO thats a backdoor so i will call Telstra myself....this is how tech's can access your computer....

BACK DOORS TO GAIN YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION:

For those who are not aware THIS IS CALLED REMOTE ACCESS and is used mainly for large companies who hire computer technicians to help log onto an employees computer to help with programs that have stopped running or have frozen etc. They might perform script checks, prompts, RUN sequences, replace broken dat. files or exe. files etc VIA remote access.

This is basically the old DOS modes of script configuration for functions/files/commands on your computer to make it run a file/game/program or the actual windows systems itself may need re-configuring because you "deleted" a system file that runs your windows for example.

That's like the brain of your computer that tells it how to do things or tells you what scripting/files are missing that has made your computer/program/game stop working for example.

Its also the hackers paradise at the endless possibilities of what damage they can do inside your computer without you even knowing until its too late

These technicians can be the other side of the world and do not need to be local, hence the name remote access.

You can even use it to access your "mums" computer to help see why a file wont open for her for example....it is like a "ghost" has taken over your computer and "mum" can see what you are doing, opening or looking from her end....as well as you can also see what "mum" has done and been looking at prior to the access.....Mum's end freezes while you take over and access her computer to "fix" the "problem" she has......

ASK THEM TO VERIFY YOUR ACCOUNT, ITS YOUR RIGHT TO ASK THIS IF TELSTRA ACTUALLY CALL YOU

Also Telstra have also stated with phone calls like this that you ask for the last 4 digits of your account identifier number. If they cannot provide you this....IT IS NOT TELSTRA...this is the last 4 number of you actual Telstra account number found on you billing on the left hand side under billing period, bill issued then account number and bill number.

Telstra will not call you unless they have your account already open in front of them, they still ask you to provide you name and date of birth for verification - but you have a right to ask for these last 4 numbers before you identify yourself to them. Otherwise you ask for their name and you will call Telstra back directly and ask for that person. All the while asking the person you are speaking to that someone has actually tried to call you, they can also verify before you ask for that person.

REMEMBER NEVER GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION & DON'T FEEL LIKE YOU ARE OBLIGED TO SAY ANYTHING JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE CALLED YOU

YOU HAVE RIGHTS TO CALL THAT COMPANY BACK SO YOU KNOW YOU ARE ACTUALLY TALKING TO THE REAL COMPANY AND NOT A SCAMMER - look up the real companies telephone number and give them a call and ask them if this is what is happening and they are caling customers

Even just giving out information like you full name and date of birth can be then used to create false identities

DOOR TO DOOR CHARITIES -there are people who are scamming and pretending to be "collecting" for a charity or want you to sign up for monthly payment. Tell them to leave their name, a card and information and you will have a look at it. Call that charity and find out if they had people door knocking, they will also be able to confirm the person does work for them or not and if they were recently canvasing. If they cant confirm then generally they were scammers.

EVEN DOOR TO DOOR SALESMAN - I research that it is a real company and call them directly, i ask if they have had people in my area doing door to door they either confirm or they dont. If they dont i report them so others can be aware.

if you are not sure you can call the ACCC for consumers, they are more than likely to be aware of salesman performing scams to get your personal information and credit card details and advise you.

1 poor sales lady really copped a mouth fool & the 50 million questions until i finally realised that she was actually from the sales staff upgrading to a better deal on our account hahaha

EDUCATE YOURSELF - if you have a computer you can google current scams and it will give you a list of them all over the world. They all have the same things in common and thats getting any information about you that they can.

AGAIN if your not sure, you dont have to tell them anything.

sorry for the long email and i hope this makes sense to you, but it really scares me to think that there are actually many people falling for this scam because they simply are not aware of any of this and especially so for our older generations who have not grown up with computers at all....so this is for them

Same complaint different day!The person said his name was Daniel and after my son verified the number was on the alerts list he hung up. Daniel rang back and asked me that I need to be infront of my computer. I told him we knew he was a scammer and that he is being reported to police and Telstra.Don't hold up too much hope that calls from this number don't happen again.
