Caller: 'Smart Net' Pop-up Scam - (02) 6100 4299 or (03) 9018 7675

This business is pretending to be associated with Microsoft Tech Support. They install pop-up malware on your computer which activates a 'Window's Defender' warning that certain malware has been detected and the you need to call Microsoft Tech Support to resolve. This company then spent several hours - after remoting into the desktop - explaining how Trojan malware had been installed on my desktop and then removing the malware and apparently installing Webroot anti-virus. They ended up charging me $400 for the virus removal and then $700 for 'lifetime' anti-virus software. Note, no company offers lifetime virus protect for $700! To be safe, change all passwords and get the device checked by a professional IT company to ensure all malware has been removed. This is a Pop-Up scammer company that do not operate in Australia. Their domain 'smartnetstore.com' is owned by GoDaddy's Domains By Proxy to conceal the identity of the company owners / registrants. If you come across words such as 'Smart Net', Alex Webster (Billings Supervisor), 'Smart Net Concierge Premium Encryption' and non-specific references to Trojan and Spyware from a company presenting to be Microsoft Tech Support (also beware any web address that looks similar to www.microsofttss.com or microsoft.tss.com) be super careful - they are likely scammers looking to 1 - get immediate money out of you for services not provided OR gain access to your device to install the exact malware they are claiming to remove!

Have called me saying it's Analytiq-IT-Solutions telling me my computer has been hacked. Don't know if it's for real.

Exactly the same MO as below. I've isolated and had a look at the shortcuts/programs loaded (the ones I can identify) and they dont appear to be any kind of security programs

This number also scammed my mother just yesterday. The same M.O. in that a popup came on her computer. She called but no-one answered and they called her back. They then accessed her computer remotely and have attempted to charge $400. Notify your banks immediately as well as completely wiping your computer. Be sure to change all internet banking passwords but on a different device. Report to Microsoft and also your banks and relative authorities as a scam. Smart Net Store LLC do not operate a legitimate company in Australia.

Caller: I spoke to an Andy and then an Oscar called back

claiming to be Microsoft tech help - mentioned SmartNet - a Trojan Spyware almost consumed my PC - I was taken in. I don't think they are legitimate. I will have an IT guy check and go over my PC just to be on the safe side. ALSO be aware of a "Canberra" number (02) 6145 2611 - definitely suspicious.

computer lockup message advises to call (07) 4515 4087 (legit number but is spoofed and diverts). The "IT Tech" who answers (purporting to be from Smart Net Store LLC) tells you they are support for Microsoft and Apple and that the number is advice inbuilt into Microsoft Defender (crap) then confirms the PC has a virus, all very convincing to an elderly person. They go through a lengthy process of "removing" the virus and recommend Webroot Secure Anywhere be installed and bill you about AU$500. Strangely the Tech support number 1800 959 248 is answered ( claim to be based in california but a strong asia minor accent) and they responded to my enquiries for about 15 minutes, most unlike a scammer
