Just got called today. Lied and said that I wasn't the person they were after...They left this number and I called back. An automation playing saying "welcome to Energy Australia please enter your account number which is located on the top section of your bill then press hash."

I didn't even anything and just hit hash and it took me straight through to an indian. It's almost believable but Energy Australia would have a menu to selection from and tells you exactly where on the bill the account number is not just "the top section".

This scam is STILL active.
Received a call at my workplace today, from an Indian "worker at Energy Australia" asking for my boss. I asked what this was in relation to, and she just kept asking for me to put my boss on the phone, saying it was in relation to his account with them.
She asked for another number to contact him on, but I refused to give her his mobile, so she then asked that I get him to call 1800 33 66 11 immediately, and was quite rude when I wouldn't give her any further information.

Hi all - this scam is still active - got a private number call from EnergyAustralia for overdue gas followed up by an SMS.

the recording was in a perfect aussie accent and addressed me by full name. scary stuff!!

I got a text saying it was from energy aust, with reference no and ph no. I told guy everything. He wanted a cc no,
He asked too many questions, I said I didnt have a cc but wld b pay it then reference no didnt make sense. He knew exactly how much I owed though, only $28, so he had seen my bill somehow. Afterwards I knew something was wrong.

Scammers who keep calling about non-existent EnergyAustralia bills. Called EA but was told I had no outstanding bills.

I actually had someone come to my house and hand my husband a letter for outstanding money owed on solar panels. On the letter it has the number 1800 336 611 to call back. Very UN-nerving that people are actually coming to your house! Was very believable in this instance only because we have an issue with our solar panels. Def makes you wonder how and where they get the information.

I have been receiving similar messages recently both text messages and private phone calls several times a day, with the occasional voice mail message left.
Called energy australia and they advised it is not one of their numbers.

Same trick again. A recorded message saying they want to speak to the person responsible for the EnergyAustralia Gas Account at xxx address, following on from several text messages about an overdue bill. Never give out any details over the phone. If they are legit they would have your details and be able to send you a bill.

This scam is doing the rounds again.
Just got a call on my mobile from a Private Number, as is always with Private Numbers I let it go through to voicemail. Upon retreiving the voicemail I was advised (from an Indian) that the call was from Energy Australia and was asked to ring 1800 336 611.
It was obviously an Indian call centre pulling a scam again. Beware of Indians chasing a buck, they're all crooks!

As for above with texts, calls and recorded messages and I called Energy Australia and they confirmed that no official call had been made to me.

The only difference to the above stories for me was that they DID have the details of the exact amount on my overdue account. They also had my name, address, all of my contact phone numbers etc - so how have they got my personal information? This is a big concern, surely.

Also received a call & SMS from this scammer claiming they were from Energy Australia. Don't reply or give them info.

I have the same problem now. I received a call from a recorded voice saying I needed to call 1800 336 611, but when I later called TRU Energy they said I did not owe anything, which makes me believe this is a scam

Looks like this scam is doing the rounds again - claiming to be Energy Aust. for an overdue Gas Bill - I don't have gas - that's not my issue as obvious it was a scam, my issue is how do they get the details such as my mobile & address - what arseholes are selling their data bases or allowing hackers in for them to do this in the first instance??? I pity this world in the future when people like this have absolutely no conscience & pray on peoples innocence... hope they rot in hell or wherever they are now.

They phoned and said they were from energy Australia and were pressuring me to pay with a credit card immediately, I told them no. Called energy Australia from number on website, THIS IS DEFINiTELY A SCAM, they never phone and ask for payment.

Left an automated message on my mobile to call back "urgently". My account is not overdue so I won't be calling back

Recieved a text message from 1800 336 611 pretenting to be Energy Australia it turned out to be a fraud

I got SMS ask me to call that number. In the SMS it said I didn't pay my energy Australia bill, so I called energy Australia, they said I don't have over due balance, there is no record of any SMS sent to me, they do not recognize that 1800 number and they usually put their 13 number on SMS from them. HOWEVER, they advised me to NOT consider the SMS as a scam. I don't understand their logic.

Just been sent SMS from Energy Australia (Supposedly)...although I'm with Origin, thought it may have been an old bill, so called from work, wasn't going to use my home no;) I was just left hanging on switchboard with auto voicemail for 5 mins, while on hold I Googled the 1800 336 611 No, and saw this site, the same number being used for different companies, so I just hung up, clearly a scam...f@@ckers....
Oh well work will have to pay the phone call, hope it wasn't $20/min ;/

Received a phone call from a blocked number, was an automated attendant stating it was TRU ENERGY, began by asking to press #1 if i was the owner of the following address "Address", so i did, then an automated message stating that i was owing $1460 in overdue bill followed by an option to hear the message again.

Once i hung up this was followed by a text with contact details as TRUenergy stating

"Have you overlooked payment of your TRUenergy Bill?
To make payment or discuss further please call us on 1800 336 611.
Your reference ###########"

As far as I'm concerned this is a load of S#!T and don't be fulled as TRU would call you directly or send you some correspondence via Snail Mail if this was the case..

Oh yea, and if you are responsible for this scam and are reading this .... may karma be your friend too.

Note: all posts are the same in stating that calls are made outside of TRU's operating hours... same here.

Scammers callinghome phone, mobile and texting me. TRU Engergy (The real Tru Energy) have confirmed that they did not call me and these people are scammers. Don't call them back! Only contact energy companies on the number listed on their website or your bill.
