Definitely a quite professional scam. Got an email telling me to call this number. Email came from noreply @ e.optus.com instead of an Optus.com.au address. Order number didn’t match any I had made recently. And seriously, “we need to talk to you about your Optus order”? No detail! Without a doubt a scam.

Legit. Sent me a worrying text but had the reference number for my new phone order, after giving over all my details I got a text and email from Optus confirming my order! Can even track it in the app now.
So even though I was worried because all signs pointed to a scam, it's okay

Apparently Optus, they do have my order reference so they must at least have access to Optus data. I opted to call back to proper Optus number anyway.

Do not respond if you get this message. Optus SMS do not go by the SMS name "OPTUS MSG".
The real Optus will use the SMS name "Optus" and exactly these characters only.
THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS A SCAM because I am not an Optus customer and have no orders with them...
"We need to talk to you about your Optus order. Pls call us on 1300 303 723 with ref: YES01234567"

100% a scam. These guys are putting on a front as if they are Optus and they are not. Do not be clicking through any confirmation emails from these guys. They will appear as email @ email.Optus.com.AU and this is a phishing email!
I unfortunately had first hand of the scam having since had to reapply for all of my government identification.
If you’re unsure, hang up and call Optus yourself.

I had tried to make an order for a mobile phone earlier in the day but wasn’t happy with what they said I could get so I canceled my order through Optus online chat. Then received an email saying they need to talk to me about my order. I called the number and they wanted my first and last name. Gave it then asked if I had a service with them?! They should know this shouldn’t they?.. anyway proceeded to ask for my date of birth and I immediately said “is this about my order that I canceled online with Optus chat, I cancelled it because they couldn’t give me the phone I wanted” and she answered “is there another person or family member you could put your order under?” I felt like that was a bit weird. So I just asked for it to stay cancelled and if I could get a confirmation of that emailed and she said they don’t do that on their end and that the way I’ll know if it’s canceled is that I will receive no more calls from Optus. Hmmmm don’t know what to think about that. Just hope it worked.

This number is legit as a I got a confirmation email and text from Optus confirming my 5G home internet order had been finalised and I also login in Optus website to check my account and is in progressing of my order.
As first they called from (02) 9174 3000 and left voicemail and I found those emails to call back this number 1300 303 723 with email address noreply @ e.optus.com with subject my 5G home internet order reference, so I wasn't too worries to call back however their background was noisy but they did the job.

Caller: Email from Optus apparently
Email told me to ring number 1300 303 723) about your Optus order. Rang the number provided and got recorded message with Australian accent telling me that I would be put through to next available operator. Operator must have accidentally pushed button as I could hear operator and people in backward talking for about 40 seconds. Operator thsn answers say it is going to cost me $59:00 a month plus $10:00 for something. I proceeded to tell her that she had the wrong person. Seemed like she wasn’t sure what she had done, so I hung up.

Received a message on my mobile to call this number about an order, so I rang optus on their 1800 number. The girl couldn’t find that number in their directory and when she tried to call on my behalf, she kept getting a motto say the number was incomplete. They told me to ignore the message.

Caller: Fake Optus
Don’t fall for these people.
Email “noreply @ e.optus.com” is fake, grammatical errors and order number is a fake generated number.
The follow up with phone call which is also a fake number.
Most likely collected our info from Optus breach.

Direct number into an internationally outsourced Optus call centre for processing new internet/mobile orders. The fact it feels so sketchy adds to its genuineness tbh

Caller: apparently Optus
Very confusing sketchy email, then called and still dodgy interaction with Ben, background noise and inconsistent questions & responses.
either a legitimate unprofessional Optus call centre, or a very professional and careful Scam.
personally, I'm on the fence

Caller: Optus?
got a sketchy email to call them to talk about an order I made (phone and postpaid plan) I called the number and gave the reference number because it seemed hard to know if legit or not. the email they sent from was noreply @ e.optus.com and they had the right reference number and the right story that matched up with me. it seemed so sketchy and there was lots of noise on other side of the line when I called, I talked to a guy Ben and asked him bunches of questions to check if it was scam. seemed a bit unprofessional compared to usual Optus support. I gave my wrong details like date of birth etc. when they "confirmed it was my account" seems dodgy. but then they recommended me making another order and they would cancel the one that was having trouble. then they said good bye and "thanks for calling Optus" wtf.. I'm so on the fence. either they're a very unprofessional legit Optus third-party call service ORRR it's a very professional scam and they are trying to lay low and seem legit so they don't get found out. personally, I'm on the fence. rather not trust them than trust them. if they call and ask for personal details so they can "confirm its you" just lie, don't give them your real details. if they accept them and move on, obviously they're not "confirming it's you" they're just writing down your details to get your info. take care and if you feel a bit suspicious, better safe than sorry.

Optus call centre, not entirely sure if its Optus them selves or a third party. Had to call to finalise an order for NBN installation. Admittedly although number was given to me in a slightly sketchy looking email and there was lots of background noise it appears to be legit as a I got a confirmation email and text from Optus confirming my order had been finalised.
