Called, me make me believe i won tickets for the recent Ed Sheeran, told me to confirm my name, dob and address, and told me to hold the line to speak to someone else to claim the prize. Next thing i hear was a debt collector claiming i owe them money. WTF is that legal they can bs like that and get away with it. Now they knocking on my door non stop for a week now. Bloody vultures they are.

It's OK to answer debt collector calls. But.... Do not admit the debt or that you owe them anything. Do not make a payment and do not put anything in writing. Instead ask these things.
- Where did the debt come from?
- How much is the debt for?
- What is the stat barred date in the debt?
The last question is most important. Remind them when you ask for the stat barred date that they are LEGALLY obligated to tell you the true and correct stat barred date. If that date has passed you no longer owe the debt in question. It is also harassment if they continue to chase you for the debt. If the date is on the horizon, wait it out. Unless they initiate legal proceedings to have the court recognise the debt. Seven years since the last payment or the last time you acknowledged the debt is the limit in Australia. They are unlikely to have the court recognise the debt for smaller amounts.

I'm glad we have this as a resource.
I had my suspicions the call was from Credit Corp,
and when I answered, low and behold, it was them.
Them calling on a mobile phone number was a bit odd.
But yeah, don't answer.

You must never claim the debt as yours.
Always say “I don’t think this debt belongs to me”
Then ask for all “evidence of the debt to be emailed to you”
Including copies of anything that proves or shows the ownership of the account. If they cannot provide, then u don’t owe
And refuse to discuss anything until all evidence is emailed.

I'd say it might be about the credit cards I was unable to pay or the business overdraft I defaulted on or the $16k toll bill I defaulted on. Has anyone had a court judgement brought on them by debt collector?

People complain about debt collectors but why is it okay to borrow money and not pay it back. Term and conditions are there before going ahead with any kind of loan.

"but if i just ignore the calls for 7yrs, my debt will get removed?"

Yes. The time period varies between States, but there is a statute of limitations on collecting debts. It's usually 6 or 7 years. After that time, they become "Statute barred" and any legal action in respect of the debt is legally unenforceable.

No clue who it is however value the feedback from people as always check first. Have not had a debt at any point so no reason to be calling. No clue how this is allowed - constant calls from various numbers past month or so - time consuming, frustrating and impacts on business. How do we stop this?

I have ZERO debts, and am being called almost daily. Checking Google lists Credit Corp as the offender. When I have answered the caller hangs up immediately. the 3 numbers that appears to be them are 0420 959 265, 0414 258 740 and 0424 750 636.

I did not answer. Thank you for reporting the number. I have had them calling me for a debt from 2011.
They saw my employers number on LinkedIn and he gave them my number.
It’s a $30000+ debt and was a result of fraudulent use of my card when I was unwell and unable to deal with it at the time.
My credit rating doesn’t reflect this debt. Not sure what to do but I have to avoid all calls I don’t know now
