This is 100% a scam. Do yourself a favor and do not provide them with any information. If in doubt call the 1300 number on back of your card. They use numbers very close to the number 9271 number to try and convince you. Another giveaway is that they want to talk to you through Whatsap.

Caller: AMEX fraud Alert

Please don't answer any calls from (02) 9271 4110—very sophisticated scammers. I called Amex and cancelled my card

The same happened to me yesterday! Same number identifying with the same name, using the same MO sand wanting the same information. I called AMEX using the numbers on my card to check - AMEX verified it was a scam and took down the number for further action… Ringing back the number above sounds official and personalises to the last few digits of my card number… scary as they have matched my name, phone number, and parts of my card number!

AMEX SPOOF SCAM. Caller stated sus transactions on card. Was sus right from the get go, so he said Google search this number. I did and you do get a result for AMEX, but that is how a SPOOF SCAM works the number that comes up on your caller ID is false. Also they'll do weird things like ask for your card details when they've called you. I called AMEX 1300 number and they confirmed no similar transactions and no one from fraud department had called. Block this number and disregard anyone in this thread who says it is not a scam.

This is the scammers trying to pretend it is real. I just called and he told me to call the number on the back of my card to make it seem real. He asked me for the 4 digit code on the back of my card, I said no bank ever asks for that. Stupid scammers.

Caller: AMEX scam guy

I just received a call from (02) 9271 4110 and the guy saying that he was from AMEX and I had fraudulent transactions on my card. He needed to know my details to confirm that it was me so AMEX can cancel my card and send me a knew one. He knew by full name, my address, my email address but then what made me suspect a scam is when he asked me for my card details including my full card number including expiry date and pin. I asked him to email through to me a list of suspicious transactions on my card and run through with me the last few transactions on the statement of my AMEX card so I can also get him to validate that he really was calling from AMEX but then he became very annoyed with me, speaking over the top of me, and extremely unprofessional. I ended the phone call and called AMEX on 1800 507 104. They confirmed that there had been no suspicious or fraudulent transactions on my card. This was definitely a scam. Don't answer calls from this number.

Got a text message from a number re fraud and was told to calll this number. Was scared it was a scam and called the 1300 number on the back of the Amex card. They told me it is in fact their fraud team but to be safe it’s always a good idea to call the number on the back of the card!

This is a scam. Whoever up there in the comments said it's not would be working for the scammer. The number is a genuine Amex number, BUT IT IS SPOOFED. If you call back, you will be put through to the actual Amex team, who will then deny having ever called you. But I also wouldn't call back the number either, just in case. I would call an actual listed Amex number either on the back of your card or the Amex website and then go from there.

For those who think it’s a genuine call from American Express it’s not - it’s a scam. All recording sounded legit from Amex but the plot twist is that I’m not an Amex customer and I don’t even have a credit card. For those who believed it’s a legit call please google ‘spoofing’. You’re welcome!

It was a legit number for AMEX fraud, but be safe and call the official AMEX number to confirm if you're worried.

If someone calls you from this number it could very well be a scam as they have spoofed an American Express fraud line. Ringing to this number yourself, however, will be legitimate.

Definitely not a scam. Someone from AMEX team rang me and advise me of the fraud tonline shopping transaction using my card. It wasn't me at all and she blocked my card and confirmed it wasn't me.

Definitely a fraud. Called AMX who checked and asked me to forward to their fraud email which they gave me. Told me NOT to call either 1800 number or the land line.

A totally legitimate call from Fraud Protection. The number is on the Amex website and I contacted Amex as well and they confirmed it.
