I also called AMEX on 1300 364 931 before I found this page and they confirmed the number is legit. People who say it's a scam are full of it.

This is legit.
I got a text from the usual AMEX number that gives me weekly spend update saying I had an unverified transaction and asking to call this number. I called the number on the back of my AMEX card and verified this is AMEX, don't be alarmed.
The call taker organized a replacement card straight away.

It's American express verifying a fraudulent transaction. They knew about other legitimate transactions on the account so it's definitely them. The 02 9271 prefix is the same beginning numbers as their fraud hotline on the back of the card as well.

Now number is being used as a recording from 'Department of Home Affairs' saying that my name is being used in a legal case. Just ignored it. Add this to your spam list.

Didn’t leave a message and sent a dodgey email not from Amex! Don’t ring back and don’t reply to email!

He rang me about a fraudulent transaction and want some confidential information about my accounts. I said send me an email please I don’t give any information through phone calls.
