This number is legitimate for AMEX Fraud. I checked it back through the 1300 number on the back of my AMEX card. AMEX verified the number as legitimate. Best to always call the 1300 number under all circumstances - recommended by AMEX.

Very sophisticated scam. First you'll get a text message asking you to verify a charge. You'll probably reply '2', not a valid charge. Then you'll get another text message asking you to ring them & the number included. You can click on the number & then go through to the recorded message, and everything sounds ok. The female recorded message will tell you that "iIve already identified you from the number you're calling from" & then "please enter the last 5 digits of your card". which you can, all good to here. Then, that won't work & you'll be asked to put in your card number.... Don't.
The trick is that they are counting on you believing it's legit because you dialled from your mobile, which is usually linked to your credit card. That's the scam. If you dial the number from a completely unrelated phone, you get the same message. Watch out.

Absolutely genuine. My card had attempted to be hacked. I called back thru the approved number. Genuine and non genuine charges were checked. New card is being sent out. Not sure how anyone can find this a scam..

Got a call from this number. The lady on the phone asked if I speak Chinese (I do), and then just started talking in Chinese to me. But come on, this is Australia and if anyone start talking in Chinese without consent in a business call, it is a scam! She said someone tried to open an AMEX account under my name, and I just hung up on her. I then called AMEX on 1300 132 639, they checked and there is no one trying to open an account under my name, and it is definitely a phishing call. The phone number may be legitimate but scammer nowadays can use any number to call from their system. They could use 000 to call someone if they want to!

This is definitely a scam. They called my work and sent me an id kit link making it look legitimate. The other comments are definitely the scammers trying to validate the number when it is definitely a scam. I contacted AMEX by phone, email and live chat and they all said it is fake. It texts from a fake AMEX private number the real one should have Amex rather than AMEX in caps. I have no idea how they found my work but the email they sent me, the trademark date was 2017. They have used my identify as notified by the ATO.

The number is NOT on the website. When you search this number on google, the number the amex website comes up as its searching in related this this number, which is the real amex fraud protection n number. (02) 9271 4110 is the right number. Beware this is definitely a scam.

Caller: Spoof of Amex Fraud number

I didn't answer at first but after about 5+ continual attempts of them trying to reach me I answered the call. I had recognised the number as coming from Amex so I thought it was legit. They never asked for my card number, but they did end up asking for the various security numbers on the card. They already had my email and home address. AND they knew the last few purchases on the card. However they were calling to claim that 17 flights were being booked on my card (Air Arabia, for example) and that they would cancel and block my card. Miraculously I got disconnected so I called back Amex and lo and behold they had no record of anyone contacting me for months, and that there were no suspicious charges on my card. So we properly cancelled the card and while this was happening "Jason Oliver" was trying to reach me quite persistently on his mobile (Whatsapp) which Amex concurrently told me they do not have as a functionality. So per other messages above - it is a real number from Amex Fraud, but it is being spoofed by scammers - so don't answer it at all. Call the number on the back of your phone and speak to the fraud team.

This number mimics a genuine American Express phone number but it’s not them. It’s “spoofing”. I don’t even have an American Express credit card and got a call from them.

Very convincing claiming to be from AMEX Fraud department, claiming unverified transactions had been made and held pending investigation (air travel from unknown airlines) and even correctly verified some current transactions. I had said I was uncomfortable, they said to try the number from another phone to show it is AMEX. This person then proceeded to ask for the expiry and 3 digits from the card, so I bailed and called direct. Definitely an attempt at fraud.
The call itself was of poorer quality, had occasions of choppiness but also the operator remarked on transactions incorrectly and then attempted to rush me into responding with the above details.

It’s a fraud call. The woman spoke with non Australian local accent, saying there was a transaction on my Amex card buying illegal medication. I ran Amex with 13number, Amex security checked my account. There was no suspicious transaction at all.

A male caller claimed to be Amex staff with a heavy Southeast Asian accent and said his name was "John Smith" & enquired about a transaction. I immediately hung up the phone. I contacted Amex via their official online portal and they said it's not from them.

Dodgy NOT Amex call. Philippines calling asking for card details and new card has been ordered. So not use your name or give details. Terminate call immediately!

Legitimate text & email urging this number to be called. I was sceptical at first and called the 1800 number (on the back of the card) and the (eventual) human confirmed that the correspondences were genuine.

I still recommend not tapping on any links, and only using the alternate number.

This number is not Amex. Do not provide them with any info. Amex is aware of the number and so is NSW Police. I cancelled my card with a replacement to be sent. SPAM CALLERS.

Caller: Spoofed Amex scammers

Already got the card detail and limited personal detail to bypass the 2FA to get apps user id and have password reset.

Once you got hooked and managed to changed the password, they will keep dialing, almost 50 times within 15mins to make sure that even when you realise something is wrong, and tried to call back Amex from the number behind the card, which is 029271xxxx, ironically, modern mobile will automatically complete the full number from the scammers as the 1st six numbers matched.

The faster way to stop the scammers prior to you able to contact real Amex number is to keep entering now "wrong password" as scammers has managed to changed until the card get suspended automatically, normally 3 to 5 try

Caller: supposedly ING Bank

Caller said he was from ING bank and they'd found two suspicious transactions on the account. He knew my name, address, email address and first part of card number. When he wouldn't read me the rest of the card number "over the phone" I said I would ring ING. He was very polite, and said he would send me new cards. I hung up.
