Caller: Luke from Westpac Remediation team. Emp ID M051588

Called my wife and left a message about being from the Westpac remediation team. They made it sound genuine on the voicemail and even said it may seem like it's a spam call but there is something that needs to be remediated in the account. I called back this number and a person named Luke answered and asked me to verify my details. I asked if he could verify that he was from Westpac or send me an email from his westpac email but he said I can call the 13 number and verify the employee id. I called westpac an they said it is a valid emp id but they couldn't see any notes that Luke was trying to contact me or that there was any remediation that was required. This is the most professional scam call I have received so far

I have had 4 calls over the last few days all saying from Westpac, from some section that I could not understand asked to call back on 1300 136 866 all very heavily accented, seemed very odd. Seems like a scam

St George did call from this number regarding my company that was deregistered.
The other number 1300 130 866 is legitimate... note these numbers are specifically regarding company accounts... other note, ASIC has recently been cleaning house and with the new director rules, could be a reason for the increase in St George reaching out (possibly also Westpac, as these 2 banks merged in 2008, but kept both trading names)

It’s a scam, and these are the most amateurish Numb nuts I’ve encountered. The posts on this thread claiming it’s legit are part of it.

Can confirm it is genuine call. Got multiple calls from the remediation team who left their number 1300 130 866 in the voicemail. Searched it up online and it appeared on their public website. Decided to call through and the team was lovely and I found out I had money owing to me which I have now received. Thanks for getting money back to your customers :)

I can confirm this is legitimate, the call was to follow up a refund cheque from westpac that I had not cashed from years ago. I was once a westpac credit card holder. I called westpac direct and confirmed the number 1300 130 866 is a register westpac number and then called it and they had the refund processed.

First left a message that it’s a remediation and asked to
Call back to 13… number .
Next day called again, I challenged that it’s a scam .
He said that you are welcome to go to branch to verify this .
I Said I definitely would .
Perfect English language . Male . Very convincing .

Very suspicious - when they started to ask me to identify myself when they were the ones to initiate the call and I asked them to email me instead, they were very reluctant.
Terminated the call.

SCAM! Called today and left voice message. I called Westpac to check notes and they told me that it’s a scam and not to answer calls from that number.

They called saying they were Simon from westpac and to call back on 1300 362 409 but that is a St George number. I called westpac and they told me there are no notes on my profile and the number they said to call on isn’t a westpac number. This is a scam.

Caller: Westpac St George Remediation

They called me last week and told me I was due a refund due to remediation from St George. Said I could call a number which they gave me or go into a branch and discuss. Being very wary of cold call scams I chose to go into a Westpac St George branch at Robina on Saturday. The branch agent checked my details and confirmed that it is legit. The remediation team don't work on Saturdays so she wrote the contact number for them on a card and I just called them. It relates to a failure to provide all necessary detail regarding interest rates and charges at the time of obtaining a St George credit card - We have never banked with them. Refund of over $300 being processed. Sounds like a scam right? Yep. So go into a branch and verify. Worked for me.

This is legitimate and definitely NOT a scam. I am a former Westpac customer and I received a cheque from Westpac out of the blue for money they advised was owing from them having overcharged me some fees. I banked the cheque and it was fine. A few months later I then received an email from Westpac advising they were going to direct credit my Westpac account another amount for further fees owing. I was a bit sus on it but I googled the 1300 number and found it was legit. I rang them to let them know I had closed my Westpac account a few years ago. They took another account number and they direct credited my account the amount owing. Although it seems sus, if you are a current or former Westpac customer, you may be owed monies through remediation as you were overcharged fees. The Royal Commission into the financial services sector resulted in numerous remediation programs by various financial institutions, including banks and insurers. If you are legally owed money by them and they are offering to compensate you, don't knock it back but do your due diligence and research the phone numbers etc first.
