BEWARE! This is not Amazon!
I placed an order with Amazon for three items. 10 mins later I received a call from (02) 7228 1102. The caller was a male with a thick Indian accent. He said he were calling in relation to a recent purchase on my Amazon account. He then asked whether I just purchased some specific items that he then accurately named (in case it's relevant to anyone else, among the items was some EBL rechargeable batteries and a hard drive).
He said he was calling because the order had been placed using a VPN (which I was) and that he was therefore checking with me to see whether it was a legitimate order.
He already had my name (first and last), as well as the exact details of the items I had just purchased. He asked me to confirm my address, which I partially did, but he was able to complete the remainder of the address, meaning he definitely already had that information.
After the call ended I immediately called Amazon to query them about the phone call and the Amazon assistant that I spoke to indicated that they had NOT called me, and that they never make outgoing calls regarding customer purchases. Customers have to request that Amazon calls them.
I have also had two-factor authentication on my account and I use a password manager, meaning that all my passwords are garbled codes that are not shared across any other websites/accounts.
In light of the above, I suspect my account may have been compromised through a parcel tracking app that I had installed a few weeks prior. The parcel tracking app I installed was called "Packages", which I have now uninstalled.
I've been using Amazon for years and have never received a call such as this before, yet this first call comes after giving the iOS "Packages" parcel tracking app the ability to access my Amazon account in order to track the shipment of items.
Has anybody else who received a call from this number also been using the iPhone parcel tracking app called "Packages" or any other package tracking app? - AnonymousOctober 26, 2021Scam callAustralia
Purchased goods from amazon.
Within 5 minutes had several missed calls with voicemail saying they were from amazon and they would call me back.
Got in contact with amazon via a call back through their contact us page and they confirmed that it was a spam call.
Not too sure how they would know that I had placed an order so quickly.. - AnonymousOctober 25, 2021UnknownAustralia
I placed an order for an expensive item and then received three calls from this number. The VM left was from an Indian person that I couldn't even understand one word. SERIOUSLY DODGY. I've blocked the number. - AnonymousOctober 25, 2021Scam callAustralia
They called straight after ordering a macbook. The voicemail they left knew i had ordered an apple product. The voice quality of the message was very poor but i can make out 'apple'. I changed my password and enabled 2fa. Spoke to amazon through support chat and they said its a spam call. No idea how they know what i just purchased?! - AnonymousOctober 13, 2021UnknownAustralia
Caller: Amazon Scammers
I picked up that this was a scam after realised they hacked my account - I told them I would cancel my card so not to worry - they tried to tell me this would cost me $199. I asked to speak to the manager - they were relentless with their call backs. I have since cancelled my bankcard so they cannot access any further information. They were good - they had my name, email account and address. I need to update passwords.
They also called from mobile 0488 897 542. - AnonymousOctober 11, 2021UnknownAustralia

Placed an order with Amazon and As soon as the order went through a man with a strong Unintelligible Indian accent called me from this number 3 times ( I don't answer unknown number and it was 9.30pm) and even left voice messages to try to get me to verify my account details. Then, soon after Amazon sent me an email informing me that my order was being cancelled because someone else was trying to access my data. Looks like Amazon is working together with these scammers. How do they know when we place orders here from Australia. Why bother buying from Amazon, no more. - From MelbourneSeptember 25, 2021Scam callAustralia

Caller: she said she's from Amazon
about 5mins after order is placed, I received a call from (02) 7228 1102 which shows it’s from Sydney. I picked up but the signal was so bad I couldn’t hear a thing, so I hang up.
then this number called again straight away, I picked up, signal is still bad but I could hear a lady talking. she claims she’s from Amazon team, and stated my order details and paid amount. then she asked me to confirm my shipping address and last 4 digits of card number used to pay for this order.
I was confused so I asked her why I need to verify this over the phone, because all details are available on the order anyways. She tried to say something but she has a very thick Indian accent and her background is so noisy, plus signal still keeps breaking off, I could not understand what she’s trying to say.
I asked her to please repeat, she did but I still cannot catch a full sentence at all. then she only just keeps repeating “please state your shipping address and last 4 digits of card number, otherwise your order will be cancelled”, no matter what I say or ask.
then she said “okay since you don’t want to verify your details, I will cancel your order. if you still want to purchase it you need to place a new order”, then hang up.
then I had someone from Customer Service team call me, and explained what happened. the person said Amazon’s account specialist team received “my” direction to cancel the order, so they did. then I asked him: obviously I didn’t provide the direction, so who did? he said he really doesn’t know.
then he confirmed that neither Amazon Customer Service team or Account Specialist team would reach out and call consumers to verify order details after an order is placed. the call I received is very likely to be a scam call, and he highly recommends me to change me account password immediately and closely monitor activities on my card for the next a few weeks. - AnonymousSeptember 16, 2021UnknownAustralia
My first order was cancelled so I changed the payment and purchased again. I then received a call from this number asking if the 2 purchases were correct and ask me to cancel one of them. They new all about my purchases - AnonymousAugust 26, 2021UnknownAustralia
A very similar experience to all of the above. Was asked by caller to confirm last 4 digits of card used for transaction. Very concerned about the security breach that enables this to happen. - AnonymousAugust 25, 2021UnknownAustralia

Same as previous messages. I ordered something on Amazon and 5 min later this number called multiple times. I didn’t pick up and I checked this forum then blocked the number. Should have changed my Amazon account pw right away, I didn’t and now I have a fraudulent purchase from Amazon hitting my credit card the same day. Will need to sort it with my bank but very annoying. They didn’t purchase through my Amazon account but did use my credit card. No idea how they can do this. Very sophisticated scam. - AnonymousJuly 29, 2021UnknownAustralia

I received a call from this number. However I use Heya on my mobile to silence calls from numbers not included in my contact list, and send them through to my message bank. The caller did not leave a message. When I did a reverse look-up I found others had received a call on this number shortly after placing an order on Amazon. Likewise I had placed an order with Amazon about 10 minutes before being called. What is puzzling is how this spammer knows this. It suggests a security breach somewhere. - AnonymousJuly 26, 2021UnknownAustralia
