Police were definitely not interested, so good luck getting the pricks arrested. But, I was told to call the ATO and I guess if they have enough complaints they may be able to get the Police to follow up. Also make sure you go to Scamwatch.

so i just got a call from some moron who spoke at 100 miles an hour saying that there were $3000 charges against me and potential identity theft and so i should call him on this number to clear my name

Had voicemail on my landline. Sounded like it was from 'Kevin Jones' at the ATO. I had 3 federal charges against me and my identity is under investigation. I needed to ring the number to clear my name. Was a bit worried until I found this website with similar reports.
These people really are scum and deserve a good hiding!

Mom got a similar phone call and was very upset. What a disgrace!! I called them back and the pick the call and happy to identify themselves as ATO agents and give their id..which ofcourse would be fake. Can something be done about such scammers?

my 80 year old mother received a call 25 march in afternoon from a Yuri from the Ato saying that she had owed money to the taxation office and she would be summoned to court tomorrow and could face $5000 court costs and could possible go to jail. My mother has a heart problem and was very stressed believing that she may go to jail. I rang the number which was answered by an indian speaking person. When i questioned this they put me on hold and never came back to me. I reported to police.a big scam

I also had a call from this number today (6140 3478). The volume was so poor, and the accent so bad that I just hung up. This local Canberra can easily be traced by Police, and an arrest made for impersonating a Government employee. How about it Mr Plod ?

1.30 pm Wednesday 25 Mar 2015. Daniel Wilson (with an Indian Accent) Chief investigating officer for the Australian Tax Office called me to tell me an arrest warrant had been issued against me.
Told me he was in Canberra, I asked for his phone number as the call had come in Private number he gave was (02) 6140 3478.
I asked when I would be arrested, he said in an hour or a couple of hours, I said an hour would be fine, he hung up................

Just received a call from a man with a heavy accent claiming that my mother was under investigation for her tax. No notification from the Tax Office at all prior to this. Very rude and abrupt, and you could hear in the background that it sounded nothing like a call coming from the ATO. Scam.

Dont believe these idiots. I just the Australian Federal Police to report it as a scam. Please do not do as they say.

Got a call from this number claiming I was under investigation from the ATO with an arrest warrant for tax fraud. As we has not received any other notification clearly a scam. The ATO would never cold call like this without prior process.

Just received a message, I apparently have precisely 3 hours before I am subpoenaed. I'd like to see them find me... I am a little disappointed that I only have one outstanding warrant.

My 84 Year old mum had message left from this number. Said his name was Harry Benjamin from ATO. And that she had federal warrants out against her. Left his name and phone number to call back.

These calls are NOT from the ATO or any other agency of the Government. You do not get arrest warrants for unpaid debts - being in debt is not a crime. The only thing a debt collector can do (and these guys aren't even debt collectors, but Indian call centre scammers) is to take you to civil court and get a judgement against you and maybe have either a garnishee order or a sheriff's order made by the Court.

The minute someone says you have an arrest warrant against you for unpaid debts, get nasty back - they deserve it.

Why, oh why do people whose second language is English try to pass themselves off as ATO officials. Firstly you get a letter. Secondly you get a second letter. then a third. Then a couple of guys with a laptop and a warrant ask to come in and discuss things with you.
ATO have no authority. Only the Commissioner For Taxation can ask for money or make a threat not some raghead elephant jockey.

Same thing happened to me. Got a call from an Indian girl saying she is calling from the ATO and i have charges against me. I knew it was was a scam and said sorry I'm not interested. She got very aggressive and said that there is an arrest warrant issued against me. To which i responded don't you dare shout at me and don't call again and hung up. I'm very upset and going to find out where they are calling from and have them arrested.

Scam, Indian said he was from the ATO and had 3 allegations against me

Had simialr message left on answer machine saying agent Michael from ATO and that I had to ring immediately as I had 3 Federal charges pending against my name!
