Seems a lot of overseas people trying it on Aussies.
Indians calling you "mate" just doesnt seem right, does it?

Called by this Officer Peter Williams ths morning from line (02) 6140 3470, from ATO stating we needed to call them back due to an error in our taxes and they were going to file a ????? ( couldnt catch the word but started with a P) against our name with the commonwealth!!! Checked the number SCAM!! Tried the ATO but could not get through. Tried to call the number but engaged, but have a whistle waiting for when I get through 😛

I received a call from (02) 6140 3470 .. from Officer Robbie King, from the ATO ...hmmm .. strong Indian accent ... and the ATO don't do direct calls telling people they are being investigated for fraud & that they need to get a lawyer. I rang the nbr twice after and gabe them a piece of my mind .. they Indian guy on the other end couldn't wait to get rid of me .. he finished the call with "Bitch, don't call this nbr again" .. after I told them I had spoken to the ATO to confirm everything & that they were a scam operation ....

also rec'd phone call from number, but no party on the line

I have had 2 of these now, about a month apart, both left message. The first one was an actual person, who didn't even know the number I was to call back (had someone in background reciting number to them: both Indian accent). Second time, very strong American accent, digital recording.
After the first call, I called ATO who checked my file and confirmed no outgoing calls had been placed on my file, however, they weren't interested in taking the details, number etc. told me it was a scam and to just ignore it.
Glad others have posted here. Makes you feel a little more sure about the whole scam!

My Partner just received a call from this number, Stating that we owed the Tax Department a sum of money, and they gave an old address and wanted our mobile number - which they had rung us on. Told us to get a lawyer to call back this number. On calling back were given a warrant number. The caller refused to give details or resend paperwork to correct address

I just received a call from this telephone number ... I didn't answer the call because I didn't recognise the number and I am at work (rejected the call twice). They left a message saying that it was the ATO and a warrant had been issued for me. I first thought was WTF but thankfully I goggled the telephone number before I did anything else ... Thank you for the heads up :)

I got use to these bastards who call from India or Philippines. Calling them selves AOT officers. Trying to threat people about not paying their taxes. Some times some poor fellow not aware of these scam er give them their credit card or debit card numbers and next thing they find they have been robbed. Best way is to if you hear some body calling you as AOT officer or Motor car Insurance officer. Just hang up the phone. AOT office usually send a letter never calls you

got an automated message (digital voice) saying i was named in an affadavit by the ATO and to call back (02) 6140 3478. Believing it was a scam i called back and told the man with the south asian accent i thought this and he promptly hung up.
If you can be bothered, phone them to waste their time, else just ignore them. Dont let them wreck your day.

got a call saying i was going to be arrested due to outstanding ATO debt ( it was a sydney number ) - they actually recited an old address and some old business personal details - which alarmed me, quoted warrant reference number etc etc . i was so worried i went to the police office to double check - but yep, thank goodness a scam. first time i have celebrated hearing the words "you are not wanted!" hahaha these people are horrid. who would do this?

Yes we also had a message left on our phone. When I called back at 4.55pm and said I was checking who this was as it sounded like a scam -told it was fraud division of ATO. I asked to speak to his manager and was told everyone had gone home (that did worry me as that sounded like gov dept!!!). Then he disconnected. Checked number and this website came up. Thanks. Wish someone would get these scammers.

These people are the scum of the earth.Frightened my 85 year old mother, and then got me 1/2 believing I'd done something illegal I'd obviously forgotten about! I thought maybe dementia was kicking in but that's ridiculous. Then we traced number and read the comments, have just had fun calling over and over and harrassing them, finally telling them I was tracking them through my husbands work as divisional ATO officer Brisbane. They hung up. Bastards.

Have some fun with these people - annoy the hell out of them as they are doing with us. The ATO does not issue arrest warrants for unpaid debts - you cannot be arrested for unpaid debts - they are a civil, not criminal matter.

Tell them to make sure they send around the sexiest policeman/woman they have as you would like them to do a strip tease for you before you f*ck their brains out. Go to town on annoying these people to the hilt.

I got a call from this number and they said I am steve morgan calling ftom ato you have $3000 to pay as we audit your account for last three years and a arrest warrant has been issued and ready to face for federal court.but I told to ring me back in an hour and I called ato to ask this matter .as they told your account is clear or not a single penny debt.and they told me not to engage with them.so if anyone receive any call from this no or any other similar no .....dont pay them anything or pass any personsl information ..totally scam

Also received this call, ATO, arrest, debt collection etc. From this listing I understand this has been going on since at least 13th March 2015.

I have filed a report with the ATO. I thought phone numbers were traceable within Australia? Why cant we get these scammers?

Also had idiot call from Asian voiced Harry Benjamin and who finally passed me on to Agent James.Said Federal charges and police coming to arrest me. Obvious scammers and I am in the profession so asked for references, tele no etc. When I asked for offences told me( funny ) " Teft by deception etc ". Finally told them to get lost and reported to ATO

Call from unknown no saying ato crime investigation department ..said I have federal criminal charges would be arrested in 1 hr.. He asked to arrange a attorney.. Very intimidating initialy was worried later enjoyed and kept him engaged in talking as if I'm worried.. After some time he disconnected the call

We just recieved a call from "Daniel Wilson" with the same Indian Accent. Sounds very similar to the other comments. Sounds like a scam

Received a call today & a message left claiming there were 3 federal charges against me and that my identity was under investigation. Was a foreign person claiming to be a taxation worker - after contacting the tax department, I can confirm this a total fraud.

Just got a call from this guy said he was from the ATO I called back and when I asked him to give me my TFN he hung up. I have called them back and they just hang up. The number is a Canberra number but the call routes overseas. Just listen for the clicks and the switching delay & the American or Asian ring tone.
